Brazil’s 2026 presidential campaign reached its final stretch with rallies by incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and challenger Flávio Bolsonaro ahead of the October 4 vote. Al Jazeera reported thousands at Flávio’s rally, but did not give an exact count for Lula’s final event.

Where did Lula and Flávio Bolsonaro hold their final rallies?

Al Jazeera’s October 3 report says Lula held his final campaign rally in Rio de Janeiro on Friday. It places Flávio Bolsonaro’s rally in a location the report spells “Montes Carlos.” The report does not establish whether that spelling is a typo for Montes Claros, so the place name should be treated as reported rather than silently corrected.

How many people attended?

Al Jazeera describes Flávio’s crowd as “thousands” but gives no more precise headcount. It does not provide a numerical attendance figure for Lula’s final rally. The available report therefore does not support two comparable crowd estimates.

Those final events should not be confused with the campaign-opening rallies covered earlier by The Associated Press. AP reported that Lula spoke to more than 10,000 supporters in São Bernardo do Campo and that Flávio gathered thousands at Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach. Those figures describe different events, not the final rallies.

Are Lula and Flávio Bolsonaro tied in the polls?

Al Jazeera characterized the race as a “virtual tie,” while AP described the candidates as “polling neck and neck.” These are outlets’ verbal summaries, not a complete polling estimate: the inspected reports do not provide a pollster, field dates, sample size, vote percentages or margin of error.

Who is Bolsonaro in this election?

The challenger in this contest is Flávio Bolsonaro. His father, Jair Bolsonaro, is a former president, but he is not the candidate discussed in this 2026 presidential race. Headlines that shorten Flávio’s name to “Bolsonaro” refer to the son in this context.

What else has been said about the campaign?

Commenting to AP on the broader campaign, independent political consultant and former Brazilian minister Thomas Traumann said: “I think the campaign will be dirtier than 2022, and 2022 was already one of the dirtiest in Brazilian history,” The remark concerns the campaign as a whole, not either candidate’s final rally.
