On a BOSGAME VTA-439 with a Ryzen AI 9 HX 470, Linux CPU affinity can limit VirtualBox to the logical CPUs reported as the processor’s four Zen 5 cores. The example command is taskset -c 0-3,12-15 VirtualBox—but use that mask only after checking your own system’s CPU numbering. It limits where VirtualBox threads may run; it does not bind each virtual CPU (vCPU) to a specific physical core, and available sources do not show that this arrangement is faster than unrestricted scheduling.
What the Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 offers
AMD specifies the Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 as a 12-core, 24-thread processor with four Zen 5 cores and eight Zen 5c cores. It supports AMD-V, AMD’s hardware virtualization feature used by VirtualBox. AMD also lists boost clock speeds of up to 5.2 GHz; that is a maximum specification, not a promise of sustained operating frequency. See AMD’s Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 specifications.
BOSGAME lists the VTA-439 with this processor, Radeon 890M graphics, 32 GB of DDR5 memory and a 1 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. Product configurations and availability may change; check the BOSGAME VTA-439 product page for current details.

LinuxLinks reports this logical CPU layout on the author’s VTA-439. These IDs describe that system’s observed topology; AMD’s core specifications do not guarantee that another installation will number its logical CPUs the same way.

Inspect your Linux system’s CPU topology and confirm which logical IDs belong to the intended cores before launching VirtualBox with any mask. The LinuxLinks VTA-439 report describes the mapping and commands below, but it is not a universal CPU-numbering guide.
Launch VirtualBox with affinity for the Zen 5 cores
Once you have confirmed that your system uses the reported IDs, the LinuxLinks example lets VirtualBox run on all logical CPUs belonging to the four Zen 5 cores, including their SMT siblings:

taskset -c 0-3,12-15 VirtualBoxtaskset -c sets the process’s eligible CPU set. Linux may move VirtualBox threads among the CPUs in that set; the command does not assign a particular guest vCPU to a particular core. It also does not reserve the excluded Zen 5c CPUs for host work or prevent other host processes from using Zen 5 CPUs.
Try a mask without the Zen 5 SMT siblings

taskset -c 0-3 VirtualBoxThis excludes the Zen 5 SMT sibling IDs from VirtualBox’s eligible CPU set. It changes the CPUs available to VirtualBox threads; it does not guarantee a particular guest-to-core placement.
Choose between unrestricted scheduling and affinity
Affinity is an option to test, not an established performance upgrade for the VTA-439. The cited material reports no controlled benchmark comparing these configurations. LinuxLinks’ author prefers starting with the broader Zen 5 mask, which leaves the SMT siblings available to VirtualBox’s supporting threads, and suggests benchmarking both Zen 5 masks. That is a configuration preference, not a measured winner.

CPU affinity and a VM’s vCPU count are separate settings. Affinity limits the host CPUs on which VirtualBox threads can run; the VM processor setting controls how many virtual processors the guest sees. Oracle advises against assigning a VM more CPU cores than are physically available. Its VirtualBox 7.2 manual also says that enabling nested paging can provide a significant performance increase when the host CPU supports it. These are general setup recommendations, not benchmark results for this mini PC.

If VirtualBox does not expose or use AMD-V, check whether hardware virtualization is enabled in the system firmware. Oracle notes in its technical background documentation that many systems require hardware virtualization features to be enabled in BIOS before VirtualBox can use them. Firmware labels and menus vary by system.
