If your original Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones will not connect, keep dropping Bluetooth, or will not switch audio between devices, first confirm you have the original model—not the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen). Bose has separate support instructions for the generations. For the original model, unplug the charging cable before pairing: Bluetooth is disabled while the headphones are charging. Then work through the checks below in order.
Confirm which QuietComfort Ultra generation you own
This guide is for the original Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones, sold from 2023. Bose separately documents the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen), sold from 2025; use the support instructions for your generation rather than assuming prompts or limits are identical. See Bose’s original-model multipoint instructions and its separate 2nd Gen connection guide.
Try these checks when the headphones will not connect
- Unplug the charging cable. Bose says Bluetooth is disabled while the headphones are charging. Disconnect the cable from the headphones before trying to pair or reconnect.
- Bring the devices closer and reduce interference. Keep the phone, tablet, or computer within Bose’s recommended Bluetooth distance of 33 feet (10 meters). Obstacles and nearby electronics can weaken the signal, so test with the devices close together and clear of obstructions. See Bose’s dropped-connection guidance.
- Restart the source device. Restart the phone, tablet, or computer, then try connecting again.
- Remove stale pairing records on both sides. On the headphones, press and hold the Bluetooth/Power and Multi-function buttons until the voice prompt confirms that the Bluetooth device list is cleared. Then open the source device’s Bluetooth settings, remove or forget the QuietComfort Ultra entry, and pair again. Bose also says the Bose app can forget individual devices from its Source screen. Follow Bose’s instructions for clearing paired-device memory.
- Test with another Bluetooth device. If the headphones connect to another phone or computer, Bose says the problem may be with the original source device or its settings. This test helps separate a headphone-side issue from a source-device issue.
Fix audio that will not switch between two connected devices
With two devices connected, pause playback on the first device, then start playback on the second. Bose says calls can still arrive from either connected device, regardless of which one is currently playing audio. The original model’s multipoint feature was introduced in a software update in July 2024, according to Bose’s product FAQ; setting up the headphones with the Bose app lets you receive software updates.
If a secondary device keeps interrupting listening, turn off Multi-point connection in the Bose app. Bose says this disconnects the secondary device, leaving one device connected at a time. Enable multipoint again when you want both devices connected.

Reboot the headphones if Bluetooth still drops
Bose’s reboot procedure is distinct from clearing the paired-device list: Bose says it does not erase product settings. Follow the sequence carefully:
- Disconnect any USB charging or audio cable from the headphones.
- Connect a charging cable to a power source, but do not yet attach it to the headphones.
- Press and hold the Power/Bluetooth button.
- While continuing to hold the button, connect the cable to the left earcup.
- When the power light quickly blinks twice, wait two seconds, then release the button.
After rebooting, try Bluetooth again. Bose documents this procedure in its dropped-connection troubleshooting guide.

When to focus on the phone, computer, or headphones
- Another device connects successfully: investigate Bluetooth settings or existing pairings on the first phone, tablet, or computer.
- No device connects after clearing pairings and rebooting: the issue may be on the headphone side; consult Bose Support for the original model.
- The problem is only switching playback: use the pause-on-one, play-on-the-other method, then disable multipoint if you want to prevent the secondary device from interrupting.
