Bosch Sensortec’s Smart Connected Sensors platform is a hardware-and-software system that helps device makers build wearables for full-body motion analysis. It uses the programmable BHI380 smart sensor system and can combine up to eight wireless sensor nodes, making it relevant to applications such as rehabilitation, fitness, gaming and augmented or virtual reality.
What Bosch Sensortec’s full-body motion-tracking platform is
Smart Connected Sensors (SCS) is a business-to-business platform, not a finished consumer fitness tracker. Bosch provides a wearable reference design, wireless connectivity and software for recognizing gestures and activities, detecting body movement, estimating relative body angles and delivering feedback. The aim is to reduce the hardware and software integration work required of device makers.
The system is built around the BHI380, a programmable inertial measurement unit (IMU)-based smart sensor system. In an IMU, accelerometer and gyroscope measurements describe movement and rotation; software combines measurements from sensors worn at different points on the body to estimate how those body segments move relative to one another.
How many sensors can the system connect?
Bosch’s product selector describes a network of up to eight sensor nodes. The nodes use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) 5.3 and can be synchronized to 1 millisecond over 24 hours. The system can stream raw sensor data at up to 50 Hz and generate a full-body avatar using six-degree-of-freedom (6-DoF) inertial data. These are Bosch’s stated platform capabilities, not a guarantee that every finished product will use all eight nodes or operate at the maximum data rate.
#1 Best Overall
- Bosch Security ISC-BDL2-WP12G
The described wearable housing can include the BHI380, an optional BMM350 magnetometer and an optional BMP581 pressure sensor, as well as external flash and smart power management. Bosch also describes joint-angle information and customizable gestures or movement patterns. The optional components let developers shape the sensor package around the product they are building.
What movements and applications can it support?
Bosch identifies rehabilitation, sports and fitness, gaming, wearables, hearables and AR/VR as target applications. A multi-node system can provide information about how a movement is performed, such as relative body angles, rather than only counting repetitions. That may support coaching or movement feedback, but it should not be confused with a clinical diagnosis or a substitute for professional rehabilitation guidance.

The broader wearables portfolio addresses health and fitness tracking, gesture detection, orientation, positioning and localization, and air-quality monitoring. Named devices include the BHI360 and BMI270 motion sensors, BMM350 magnetometer, BMA530 accelerometer, BMP585 pressure sensor, BME690 environmental sensor and BMV080 particulate-matter sensor. These are portfolio examples; the full-body SCS configuration specifically identifies the BHI380, with BMM350 and BMP581 as options.

At CES 2026, Bosch introduced the BMI5 motion-sensor platform, a separate sensor-family announcement rather than a replacement name for Smart Connected Sensors. Bosch positions the devices for different product needs:
Rank #3
| Sensor | Bosch’s stated target |
|---|---|
| BMI560 | XR headsets, glasses and optical image stabilization (OIS+). |
| BMI563 | Robotics and XR controllers, with extended range and vibration robustness. |
| BMI570 | Activity and context recognition in wearables and hearables. |
Bosch says samples are available to direct customers and plans high-volume production of the complete BMI5 line from Q3 2026. This timeline concerns the BMI5 family; it does not establish a release date or procurement status for the SCS wearable system.

SCS is most relevant to developers who want to build a multi-point wearable system and need movement or joint-angle information, gesture recognition or coaching features. Before committing to a design, a team should confirm the specific reference-design configuration, software and sensor-fusion support, power requirements, mechanical fit, data-handling needs and procurement terms directly with Bosch. The stated node count, synchronization accuracy and streaming rate describe platform capabilities; product-level performance depends on implementation.

The launch also sits within Bosch Sensortec’s wider strategy to combine MEMS sensors with processing and software. Bosch reports delivering more than 1 billion MEMS sensors in 2024. Its company page says it plans for 90% of products to include integrated microcontrollers or software from 2027 and targets more than 10 billion integrated-feature MEMS sensors by 2030; these are company plans and targets, not current delivery totals.
