If you want nonfiction books recommended by experts, BookAuthority remains focused on that kind of discovery—but it no longer offers user accounts, public profiles, or reading lists. For a different approach, Product Hunt’s alternatives directory names services including Hardcover, Most Recommended Books, and Read This Twice. They are not interchangeable: compare how each sources recommendations and whether it adds social reading or tracking.
What BookAuthority offers now
BookAuthority says it simplified its service in July 2025, sunsetting user accounts, public profiles, and reading lists to focus on expert-curated book recommendations. Its reader help page describes that change. The service says each recommendation includes who recommended the book, why they found it valuable, and how it contributed to that person’s success, as explained on its about page.
BookAuthority’s launch-era positioning included business, technology, and science, with interests such as startups, design, product, marketing, productivity, and leadership. Those categories come from its Product Hunt listing and should not be read as a complete inventory of its current coverage.

How to choose a site like BookAuthority
Start with the kind of evidence you want behind a recommendation, then decide whether you also want a place to track reading or interact with other readers.
- Choose expert context: BookAuthority presents recommendations with the recommender and their stated reasons, which helps you assess why a title might be relevant to you.
- Look for successful-person recommendations: Good Books is described by Product Hunt in those terms. The listing does not establish how broad or current its catalog is.
- Prefer community discovery or tracking: Hardcover is described as a social network for tracking and discovering books. Check its live product for current features before relying on a particular capability.
- Investigate the other directory listings directly: Product Hunt names Most Recommended Books and Read This Twice, but the available descriptions do not support a detailed feature comparison.
These sources do not establish comparative catalog size, recommendation quality, prices, or current availability. Treat the Product Hunt entries as leads, not a ranking or an independently verified audit.

Finding a book to buy
If your goal is to shop after browsing recommendations, search for expert-recommended nonfiction books or narrow the search to a subject such as leadership. That is a category-level search, not an endorsement of any specific title. Preserve the recommendation context while you evaluate a book; a recommender’s experience does not guarantee that the book will suit your needs.
What BookAuthority says about its reach
BookAuthority’s media information page claims “Over 2 million readers annually since 2017.” This is a company-published claim; the page does not state a measurement methodology or date for the figure. It should not be treated as an independently verified comparison with the alternatives.
