St. Louis Blues forward Alexey Toropchenko left the team’s October 2, 2026 season opener against Dallas after a second-period collision behind the net. The Blues confirmed an upper-body injury; the shoulder description remains apparent rather than an official diagnosis. Coach Jim Montgomery said Toropchenko was “more than day-to-day” and that the team would know more after MRI results.
What happened to Alexey Toropchenko?
Toropchenko was hit into the glass behind the net with 16:32 remaining in the second period, according to the St. Louis Blues’ October 3 injury update. Head athletic trainer Ray Barile helped him to the locker room, and he did not return. The team reported that he had eight shifts and 5:08 of ice time.
The NHL game recap identifies Dallas defenseman Lian Bichsel as delivering the hit. The Associated Press account carried by The Washington Post describes contact by Bichsel followed by Tyler Seguin and reports that Toropchenko grabbed his upper right arm. The team’s release does not name the players involved in the collision.
Is Toropchenko’s shoulder injury confirmed?
No specific shoulder diagnosis has been confirmed by the Blues in the available team update. The club describes the injury as upper-body; AP coverage characterizes it as an apparent shoulder injury. Those descriptions do not establish a particular injury, such as a tear or fracture.
