Bluehost is the simpler choice for a conventional WordPress site; AWS Lightsail is a better fit if you want control of a virtual server and can manage it. AWS EC2 offers still more compute flexibility, but most beginners do not need it for an ordinary blog. There is no reliable head-to-head performance evidence here to declare one host faster.
How AWS and Bluehost differ
Bluehost sells packaged shared and WordPress hosting plans with site features bundled in. AWS is a cloud platform: for a straightforward website, Lightsail is its more direct VPS-style option, while EC2 provides more flexible compute capacity. That difference shapes setup, support, and what you need to manage.
| Decision point | Bluehost | AWS Lightsail or EC2 |
|---|---|---|
| Service model | Shared and WordPress hosting plans with bundled features. | Lightsail provides virtual instances and website building blocks; EC2 offers flexible compute capacity. |
| Setup and control | Starter advertises managed WordPress updates and a migration tool. | AWS documents a WordPress setup path that includes an instance, custom domain, HTTPS, and SSH access. |
| Pricing model | The Starter offer observed on October 7, 2026 was $3.99 per month on a 36-month term, renewing at $9.99 per month. | Lightsail lists monthly plans with machine configurations and transfer allowances. A workload-specific, like-for-like total is not established here. |
| Best suited to | Owners who want a packaged hosting experience and do not want to manage a virtual server. | Owners who want server control, can handle setup and maintenance, or expect to use other AWS services. |
What Bluehost Starter includes—and what it costs
On Bluehost’s pricing page observed October 7, 2026, Starter was listed at $3.99 per month for a 36-month term, with renewal at $9.99 per month. Treat those as the offer shown on that date, not as a verified September 2026 price or a guaranteed future rate. Check the checkout terms before committing, especially the renewal amount and length of the initial term.
The same Starter listing included 10 websites, 10 GB of NVMe storage, managed WordPress updates, a migration tool, a free CDN, and 24/7 chat support. Phone support was not included at that tier. Bluehost also advertised a 99.99% uptime SLA; that is the provider’s stated service level, not an independently measured uptime result.

What choosing AWS Lightsail involves
Lightsail is AWS’s VPS-oriented route for a website project. AWS describes it as including virtual instances, storage, backups, data transfer, DNS, static IPs, and load balancers. AWS calls Lightsail “the easiest way to get started with Amazon Web Services (AWS)”—its own description, not an independent comparison.
AWS provides a WordPress tutorial covering instance setup, a custom domain, HTTPS, and SSH access. That path offers control, but it also means making server and operational decisions rather than relying solely on a packaged hosting plan. Before pricing a Lightsail setup, identify the instance configuration, transfer needs, backups, and any additional services your site will use.

When EC2 makes sense
AWS frames EC2 as the more flexible compute option and Lightsail as an easier-to-use VPS offering with a predictable monthly price. Consider EC2 when your workload needs that additional compute flexibility. For a basic blog, EC2 is not a necessary starting point simply because it is part of AWS.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →How to compare total cost fairly
Bluehost’s displayed monthly figure is tied to a 36-month commitment, and its listed renewal rate is higher. AWS pricing depends on the configuration and services selected; the available plan descriptions do not establish a single total for an unspecified website. Comparing only the advertised monthly numbers would therefore be misleading.

- For Bluehost, check the term required for the introductory rate and the renewal price that applies afterward.
- For Lightsail, select the instance and account for transfer, backups, and any other services you need.
- Compare equivalent needs and time periods rather than treating an introductory hosting rate and a cloud configuration as interchangeable prices.
Does either host perform better?
No comparable AWS-versus-Bluehost benchmark establishes a performance winner. TechRadar’s September 2026 Bluehost review says the plan page’s monthly visit allowances are difficult to corroborate and may function as safety-net limits. They are provider claims, not independently demonstrated capacity figures. The available evidence does not establish that either host is faster or handles a particular traffic level better.
Which one should you choose?
Choose Bluehost for a managed WordPress starting point
Bluehost is the more straightforward fit if you want a conventional WordPress site with hosting-specific onboarding, managed updates, migration help, and chat support bundled into a plan. Make the decision with the renewal price and initial term in view.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsChoose EC2 for additional compute flexibility
EC2 is worth considering when a workload calls for more flexible AWS compute than a simple VPS offers. It is not the default recommendation for a beginner’s ordinary website.
