Blue Origin describes its lunar “Power Tower” as a solar array that will deploy from the Blue Moon Mark 1 lander and provide more than 10 kilowatts of power for operations near the Moon’s South Pole. The company has shown an Earth-based deployment test, not a tower operating on the Moon. Its stated height is also unsettled: Blue Origin’s product page and a 2026 report say 20 meters, while a company LinkedIn post says 26 meters total.
What is Blue Origin’s Power Tower?
It is a planned solar-power system for lunar surface operations. Blue Origin says the vertically deployed array will be carried on its Blue Moon Mark 1 (MK1) lander, then deployed on the Moon to supply power to Moon Base operations and extend energy to other surface assets. How much electricity is it designed to provide?
Blue Origin says the Power Tower is designed to provide more than 10 kilowatts. That is the advertised capacity; the available sources do not report measured output on the lunar surface or establish how much power would be available to a particular user at any given time. The published figures conflict. Blue Origin’s MK1 page and Space.com’s October 2026 report give a height of 20 meters. A Blue Origin LinkedIn post gives 26 meters as the arrays’ total height. The sources do not explain whether the figures measure different parts of the system or reflect a design change, so neither should be treated as a settled final dimension.

Has the Power Tower been tested on the Moon?
No lunar deployment is established by the cited reporting. Space.com says the video accompanying Blue Origin’s post shows a deployment test on Earth dated July 22, 2026. That is a terrestrial analog test, not evidence that the flight system has landed or operated on the Moon. Space.com also reports that the concept appears related to Honeybee Robotics’ Lunar Array Mast and Power System (LAMPS), tested at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in 2024; the available sources do not provide an engineering comparison that confirms the exact relationship.
How does it fit into NASA’s Moon Base plans?
NASA describes a staged Moon Base effort near the lunar South Pole. Its timeline places Phase One through 2029, Phase Two from 2029 to 2032 for early infrastructure that includes power, and Phase Three from 2032 onward for living and working on the Moon. NASA also says it is advancing fission power for reliable long-term energy alongside work relevant to solar power. The sources do not establish a side-by-side comparison of those approaches, nor do they show that NASA has selected or contracted for Blue Origin’s Power Tower. NASA’s Moon Base program page

NASA has announced Blue Origin task orders related to delivery of lunar terrain vehicles, but those orders are separate from the Power Tower and should not be read as a contract for this system. NASA’s May 2026 release on lunar terrain vehicles
