Ancient Hero gear in The Blood of Dawnwalker is collected through several separate routes: find the Armour in the ruins beneath Svartrau, earn the Vambraces and Footwear through Xanthe’s activities, and choose to destroy the Font of Life during Anca’s quest for the Greaves. Erkas’s Sword is a separate quest reward, not part of the armor set.
The routes and item figures below come from walkthroughs and fan-maintained equipment references rather than an official item database. Treat listed levels and combat values as reference snapshots: gear values can scale with item level and character effects.

How to get Ancient Hero’s Armour beneath Svartrau
- Follow Father Florin’s route into the ancient ruins beneath Svartrau.
- Proceed through the underground area. On the route, the walkthrough points out a stone chest containing The Hand of Fate and Ancient Hero’s Ring.
- To advance through the gate, continue through the crack on the right, take the key from the corpse below, then return to unlock the gate.
- Pass the Fallen Witch and continue to the final armor encounter. Defeat Rigoz, then open the chest behind him for Ancient Hero’s Armour.
The chestpiece is heavy armor. Its base values in the Dawnwalker Wiki reference are 91 armour and 10.9 kg, with bonuses to human health restoration, action-based activation-charge restoration, damage against supernatural enemies, and Witchcraft Ability Damage. Those are reference values, not a guarantee of the exact numbers shown in every save; the equipment page notes that values scale with item level and character effects. [Dawnwalker Wiki]
How to get the Vambraces and Footwear from Xanthe
Ancient Hero’s Vambraces: “When Two Dogs…”
Take Xanthe’s Transports activity titled “When Two Dogs…” and clear the bandits around the wagon. Search the rear cargo to claim the Vambraces. The walkthrough lists the piece at level 30 with 165 armour and identifies effects involving maximum human health, activation-charge restoration from Perfect Blocks and actions, and dodge stamina cost; its visible summary does not give exact percentages, so those values should not be inferred. Ancient Footwear: “Bloodied Dagger”
- Start Xanthe’s Excavations activity “Bloodied Dagger” and clear the excavation.
- Defeat Armaya, then collect the Ritual Dagger from the wall.
- During daytime, use Compel Soul on the corpse beside the chest. The walkthrough specifies daytime for this interaction.
- Open the reward chest for Ancient Footwear.
Nerd’s Chalk lists the heavy boots at level 32 with 208 armour. This is the walkthrough’s described method; no official item page for the boots is cited here. [Nerd’s Chalk]
How to get Ancient Greaves—and what the Font of Life choice changes
Progress through Anca’s “Where Old Devils Lie,” then continue into “Stronger Than Achilles.” At the Font of Life, select “We should destroy it.” After the choice, search the debris or pedestal for Ancient Greaves. In the relevant build, the UI may describe the slot as legs, greaves, or trousers.

This is a consequential choice, not a way to collect both rewards in the same branch. If Coen drinks from the Font instead, the item reference says the reward is the Font of Life perk, which regenerates human health outside combat. Allowing Anca to use the Font leads to a third choice and its own conditional shop selection. The Greaves’ listed base values are 83 armour and 7.1 weight, with magic-damage, charge-restoration, and magic-damage-reduction bonuses; compare those equipment effects with the out-of-combat regeneration perk before choosing. How to get Erkas’s Sword and the other underground rewards
Erkas’s Sword is not an Ancient Hero armor piece. The walkthrough places it in the Svartrau underground ruins reached from Destroyed Shrine: inspect the fresco murals, defeat Erkas the Repenter, and loot his body. Another equipment guide associates the weapon with “The Champion of Old” in the same underground ruins. The same broad underground route also contains The Hand of Fate and Ancient Hero’s Ring. The Hand of Fate is a level-19 legendary shortsword in the walkthrough’s table, while the ring is listed as an epic level-19 item. How to read the gear stats
- Separate base values from displayed values. The Dawnwalker Wiki identifies base armor and effects for the Armour and Greaves. Nerd’s Chalk lists displayed item-level values for several pieces and weapons. Do not merge the two sets of numbers as if they were measured under identical conditions.
- Expect scaling. The equipment references state that gear values can vary with item level and character effects, so the listed figures are comparison points rather than fixed outcomes. [Dawnwalker Wiki] [Dawnwalker Wiki]
- Match bonuses to your build. Consider armor rating and weight alongside health restoration, maximum health, Witchcraft or magic damage, charge restoration, and bonuses aimed at supernatural enemies. The listed stats do not establish a universally best armor piece or weapon.
- Keep weapon comparisons level-aware. DPS and damage are useful only when item level and character context are comparable; the listed figures alone do not establish which sword will perform best in every build.
