Orbit Media’s 2026 survey reports shorter posts and less writing time than recent peaks, while only 13.9% of respondents said their blog delivered strong results. At the same time, 92.4% said they used AI for blogging. These figures describe respondents’ reported practices and perceptions—not universal benchmarks, audited returns, or proof that any tactic caused success.

What are the latest blogging statistics for 2026?

The figures below come from separate surveys with different respondents and measures. Treat them as context for decisions on your own site, not as a single industry-wide scorecard.

Measure Reported figure What it means
Average post length 1,312 words — Orbit Media, 2026 A survey average, not a recommended target for every topic or reader.
Average time to write a post 3 hours, 20 minutes — Orbit Media, 2026 Respondents reported less time than the 4 hours, 10 minutes reported for 2022.
Respondents saying their blog delivered strong results 13.9% — Orbit Media, 2026 Self-assessment, not an audited ROI rate.
Respondents unsure whether their blog delivered results 18% — Orbit Media, 2026 A notable measurement gap in the survey.
Respondents using AI for blogging 92.4% — Orbit Media, 2026 Adoption does not establish that AI improves or harms performance.
Marketers using blog posts in 2025 38% — HubSpot, 2026 report A separate HubSpot marketing survey measure; it is not directly comparable with Orbit Media’s respondent data.
Blog posts’ reported share among HubSpot’s top-five highest-ROI content formats 22.26% — HubSpot, 2026 report HubSpot’s reported figure and classification, not a universal ROI probability.

Orbit Media says 1,042 content marketers responded to its 2026 survey. The available reporting does not establish a fully comparable sampling frame, geography, weighting, or standardized definition of “results” across all respondents. HubSpot’s figures come from a different research program and should not be combined with Orbit’s as though they shared a sample or method. Orbit Media’s 2026 blogging statistics and HubSpot’s 2026 marketing statistics provide the original context.

How long does it take to write a blog post?

Orbit Media reports an average of 3 hours and 20 minutes in its 2026 survey, compared with 4 hours and 10 minutes in 2022. The 2026 figure is a respondent-reported average, not a production deadline or a measure of quality. The time needed can vary with the subject, research demands, interviews, editing, and the format of the post.

Use the number to benchmark your workflow, not to rush a piece. Track research, drafting, editing, and publishing separately if you want to identify where time goes. Faster production matters only in relation to the outcome you need and the quality readers receive.

How long should a blog post be?

Orbit Media’s 2026 survey puts average post length at 1,312 words. Its 2026 article reports that the average peaked at 1,427 words in 2023. These are descriptive survey figures, not evidence that a particular length ranks better or serves every reader.

Choose length by the job the post needs to do. A concise answer to a narrow question may serve readers better than a long guide; a complex explanation may need more space. Cover the reader’s actual questions, make the structure easy to scan, and remove material that does not help. Do not use the survey average as a word-count quota.

Are blogs delivering results?

In Orbit Media’s 2026 survey, 13.9% of respondents said their blog produced strong results, while 18% said they did not know whether it did. Search Engine Land’s September 10, 2026 coverage rounds the first figure to 14% and reports that it was 26% in 2022. These are respondents’ assessments of their own blogs; they do not show what share of all blogs succeeds or establish a common return-on-investment measure.

“Strong results” should not be read as audited ROI. The available reporting does not provide a standardized definition of that phrase or an objective, cross-company performance measure. The high share unsure about results underscores why measurement should be part of a blogging plan, rather than an afterthought. Search Engine Land’s coverage adds historical context, while Orbit Media is the primary source for its survey’s figures.

What do the HubSpot blogging statistics measure?

HubSpot’s 2026 marketing statistics report says 38% of marketers used blog posts in 2025 and lists blog posts among the five content formats with the highest reported ROI, with a 22.26% figure. These are HubSpot’s measures and categories; they are not the same as Orbit Media’s question about whether respondents felt their blogs delivered strong results.

In a separate 2025 State of Blogging summary, HubSpot says it surveyed more than 500 marketers. It reports that 65% worked at companies maintaining blogs; of that group, 93% considered blogging important or very important. Half reported higher blogging ROI in 2024 than in the preceding year. These are respondents’ reports, not a controlled test showing that blogging caused ROI to rise. See HubSpot’s 2025 State of Blogging Report for that survey’s context.

What do the AI blogging statistics tell you?

Orbit Media reports that 92.4% of respondents used AI for blogging in 2026. Its summary says AI use “correlates with nothing” in the survey. In practical terms, the finding does not establish that AI use causes better or worse blog performance. It also does not show that every respondent used AI in the same way or for the same tasks.

Orbit Media identifies keyword research, original research, expert collaboration, promotion, editing, and analytics among practices associated with stronger self-reported results. Those associations do not prove that the practices caused better outcomes, and the survey’s findings are not a guarantee for an individual site. Evaluate AI and other workflow choices by checking what they change in your own process and results—not by adoption rates alone.

How to use blogging benchmarks on your own site

  1. Choose an outcome first. Decide whether a post is intended to generate qualified leads, revenue, audience growth, brand awareness, or another result.
  2. Define how you will measure it. Use a consistent metric and time window for the outcome. Keep traffic and engagement distinct from leads or revenue instead of treating them as interchangeable.
  3. Record the workflow. Track time spent researching, drafting, editing, publishing, and promoting. This lets you assess efficiency without assuming that shorter production time means better performance.
  4. Compare like with like. Evaluate posts with similar purposes and formats, and account for distribution and updates. A timely trend piece and an evergreen explainer may have different goals and useful lifespans.
  5. Review and adjust. Use your own site analytics and business outcomes to decide what to update, promote, or try next. Treat survey associations as ideas to test, not instructions to copy.

Survey averages can help frame questions, but your own measurement is the better guide to decisions about length, cadence, and AI assistance. The figures cited here are self-reported survey results, not causal evidence or a universal prescription.
