Use Settings > Screen Time > App Limits > Add Limit to cap how long you use an app each day. To prevent selected apps from opening during set hours, configure Downtime and enable Block at Downtime. These controls work differently: an App Limit can be ignored after it is reached, while the scheduled downtime block applies during its configured window.
Choose the right Screen Time control

Set a daily limit for distracting apps
- Open Settings and tap Screen Time.
- Tap App Limits, then Add Limit.
- Select a category. To limit particular apps rather than the whole category, tap the category name and select the apps you want.
- Tap Next, set the daily time allowance, then tap Done. Choose Customize Days if you want different allowances on different days.
If you select more than one app or category for the same limit, the allowance is shared across those selections. An App Limit is a reminder and cap, not an unignorable lock: Apple notes that limits can be ignored once reached.

- Go to Settings > Screen Time > Downtime.
- Choose Scheduled, select the days, and set the start and end times. Alternatively, turn on Downtime until the next day.
- Enable Block at Downtime. Apple says that restricted apps cannot be opened during downtime and appear dimmed with an hourglass icon.
- Return to Screen Time, open Always Allowed, and remove any app that should not be available during the downtime window.
Always Allowed is an exception list: apps and contacts selected there remain available during downtime. Check it before relying on the schedule to block an app.

Hide a built-in app or block a website
Hide a built-in Apple app or feature
Open Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps & Features, then turn off the item you want to hide. This hides the built-in app or feature temporarily; it does not remove it from the iPhone.
Block particular websites
Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > App Store, Media, Web, & Games > Web Content, then add the sites to Never Allow. Apple’s guide to content and privacy restrictions covers this setting.

What Screen Time can—and cannot—enforce
For a hard barrier during selected hours, use Downtime with Block at Downtime enabled; do not assume that a daily App Limit has the same effect. The documented blocking behavior applies to restricted apps during downtime, not to every app limit at all times.
Apple describes setting a Screen Time passcode in guidance for managing a child’s device. Its cited instructions do not establish that a person managing their own iPhone can make their own settings impossible to change. Do not treat a self-managed Screen Time setup as tamper-proof.
