You can reduce ads on many devices, but no single setting blocks every ad everywhere. Browser content blockers work within supported browsers; DNS filtering can extend to some apps and connected devices, usually with more exceptions. Start with the device’s browser controls, then consider DNS filtering if you want broader home-network coverage. Ads built into a service, served from the same domains as its content, or shown in search results may remain.
Choose the kind of blocking that fits your devices
| Option | Where it applies | What it can address | Limits and setup |
|---|---|---|---|
| Browser content blocker | A supported browser on a device | Many ads and trackers loaded on web pages; coverage depends on the browser and blocker. | Set it up for each browser or device. Ads served directly by a site and search-result ads may get through, and some sites may not work as expected. |
| Built-in browser controls | The browser where the setting is enabled | Specific formats or behaviors, such as pop-up windows or intrusive ads. | These controls are narrower than a general content blocker; they do not promise to remove all ads. |
| DNS filtering | Potentially multiple devices using a configured router or device DNS setting | Requests to domains on a filtering list, including some ad requests from apps and connected devices. | It may not distinguish advertising from wanted content when both come from the same domain. Coverage varies, and it is not equivalent to a browser content blocker. |
These approaches are layers, not interchangeable guarantees. A browser blocker can make finer distinctions on pages it supports; DNS filtering can reach devices that do not support browser extensions, but may block fewer ads or cause unrelated content to fail.
Block pop-ups and intrusive ads in built-in browser settings
Safari on iPhone, iPad, and Mac
Apple documents a Block Pop-ups control in Safari. On iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Apps > Safari and turn on Block Pop-ups. This targets pop-up windows; it is not a comprehensive ad blocker. Apple also advises avoiding interaction with suspicious pop-ups and using trusted sources for apps.
Chrome on desktop
Chrome’s documented control is an intrusive-ad safeguard. Open Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Additional content settings > Intrusive ads. Google says Chrome removes ads on sites that violate Better Ads Standards. That does not mean Chrome blocks every ad.
#1 Best Overall
- VLAN Network Segregation: This router includes five preconfigured VLANs that isolate IoT devices, guest users, and work systems into separate, secure networks. Each LAN port and every WiFi SSID can be assigned to a VLAN, giving you complete control over how traffic flows inside your home.

- Full WiFi 6 on Both Bands: With dual-band WiFi 6 support, the router delivers modern wireless performance across 2.4GHz b/g/n/ax and 5GHz a/n/ac/ax. It improves capacity, stability, and speed while remaining compatible with older devices, making it ideal for busy homes with many connections. Wi-Fi Mesh is available after firmware update.
- High-Performance Hardware Architecture: Powered by the IPQ6000 quad-core ARM processor at 1.2GHz, along with 128MB flash, 256MB RAM, and hardware NAT acceleration, the router handles multitasking, streaming, VPN traffic, and VLAN isolation smoothly without slowing your network.
- Flexible and Powerful Parental Controls: You can use trusted services like OpenDNS, CleanBrowsing, and Cloudflare for filtering, then add custom block lists, allow lists, and schedules. The router includes defenses against common bypass attempts, letting families create rules that match each user. Best of all, it's subscription free!
For other desktop browsers, a browser content blocker may be an option where the browser supports one. The guidance available here does not establish a current, specific extension or complete setup procedure for Windows or macOS, so check the browser’s own extension store and the blocker’s documentation before installing anything.
Reduce ads on iPhone and iPad
Firefox for iOS
Mozilla’s support article, last updated August 16, 2026, describes an optional ad blocker in Firefox for iOS. It is off by default and is being rolled out progressively, so it may not be available to every user. If the feature is available, open Firefox > Settings > Browsing > Ad Blocker and enable it. Mozilla says remote improvements must also be enabled for the feature to work as intended.

What to know about Android and mobile browsers
Mobile options depend on the browser and the blocking method. AdBlock’s support documentation says Chrome on mobile does not support its browser extensions; it describes options for Safari on iOS and Samsung Browser on Android, as well as network-level filtering. Those are descriptions of that provider’s products, not a guarantee about every blocker or browser. Its guidance also notes that network-level filtering can block fewer ads than a dedicated browser tool.
Android Private DNS
Blokada describes Android Private DNS as one way to apply DNS filtering to apps over Wi-Fi and mobile data. The exact controls and behavior can vary by Android version, device maker, DNS provider, and app. Follow the DNS provider’s instructions for your specific setup; do not assume a setting will block every ad or behave identically in every app.

- 【Large Size for Compatibility】WIFI router emf shield is 12 inches long x 11 7/8 inches high x 5 1/2 inches wide. You only need to confirm the size of your router. The width of the EMF-proof WiFi router cover is the key consideration.Fits the large WiFi routers like, Comcast, Xfinity, ATT Uverse...
- 【Benefits of protecting WIFI cover】 The emf blocker for wifi router is crafted from high-quality polymer materials and effectively blocks approximately 90% of EMF emitted by large WiFi routers, including new 5G models. Safeguard your family from electromagnetic fields with this product. The cover boasts excellent electrical conductivity and shielding capabilities. Designed as a Faraday cage, it is easy to use and provides complete coverage for routers, especially larger ones.
- 【Good Performance】The EMF-proof WiFi router cover features a honeycomb design that allows for natural airflow and cooling. Simply fold the entire modem/router to optimize performance. Even when covered, the WiFi router functions normally. The EMF-proof WiFi router cover preserves the range of WiFi signals we typically use.
- 【Protecting From Now】The proximity of harmful sources to our bodies directly affects the amount of radiation we are exposed to. Additionally, the longer the exposure time, the greater the potential harm. As we rest or engage in entertainment activities at home, the router's radiation is constantly present. However, with this cover, we can significantly improve our health and well-being.
- 【Promoting a Greener Living Environment】While the harmful effects of WiFi routers may not be extremely high, they still emit microwave radiation. Numerous studies have linked this radiation to various illnesses and neurological problems. Often, we believe we are keeping our children safe without realizing the dangers of exposing them to electromagnetic toxins. This WiFi router cover offers protection against such risks.
Cover smart TVs, consoles, and other connected devices
A home-router DNS configuration can extend filtering to devices that cannot install browser extensions, including some smart TVs, game consoles, and smart speakers. Blokada describes router setup as a way to cover devices on the network. The actual steps depend on the router and DNS service, and the available guidance does not establish exact menu paths for individual TV or console models.
DNS filtering is not a reliable way to remove every video ad. If a service delivers ads from the same domains as its programs, blocking those domains may also disrupt the video. Ads integrated into a service can remain even when a DNS filter is active. Avoid changing a TV’s network settings based on instructions for a different model or platform.

YouTube ads have a separate policy and limitation
YouTube says, “When you block YouTube ads, you violate YouTube’s Terms of Service.” Its help page also warns that continued use of an ad blocker may result in video playback being blocked. YouTube identifies YouTube Premium as its ad-free option. DNS filtering is not a dependable workaround for YouTube ads and may interfere with playback.
Quick Recap
A practical setup order
- Choose the devices and apps that matter. Decide whether you mainly want fewer ads while browsing or broader filtering for apps and connected devices.
- Use a browser’s built-in control for its specific purpose. For example, enable Safari’s pop-up setting if pop-up windows are the problem, or Chrome’s intrusive-ad control for sites that violate its stated standard.
- Check whether your browser offers a content blocker. Review its availability, default state, and exceptions. On Firefox for iOS, the optional blocker may not yet have rolled out to your device.
- Consider DNS filtering for devices that cannot use a browser blocker. Choose a provider and use its instructions for your router or Android Private DNS. Keep in mind that this may affect apps and websites as well as advertising.
- Test the sites and apps you rely on. If a page, video, or app stops working, temporarily disable the relevant filter or add an exception using that product’s controls. A block list can sometimes catch a domain needed for normal content.
