BlindFlag is a prototype that compares two people’s relationship dealbreakers without displaying their individual selections by default. Its creator says the browser uses private-set-intersection cryptography and reveals a matching topic only after both people agree. That is a description from the creator, not an independently verified security audit—and the creator also warns that a participant who tampers with their own browser can undermine the privacy controls.
What does BlindFlag reveal?
Each person selects relationship dealbreakers. According to the creator’s description, the browser processes the selections and private keys, then sends scrambled payloads through a Flask backend. The interface flags an incompatibility without showing the underlying topic by default. To reveal the topic, both participants must click a reveal control.
The creator says the prototype uses OpenMined’s Private Set Intersection WebAssembly library. In broad terms, private set intersection is intended to compare sets while limiting what each party learns about the other’s full set. BlindFlag’s specific workflow and protections, however, are claims in the creator’s post; the deployed app and its code have not been independently verified here. Can my match see my answers before they answer?
In the flow the creator describes, individual selections are not shown by default, and the topic behind a flagged incompatibility appears only after both people choose to reveal it. That mutual-reveal step is a consent feature: neither participant is supposed to expose the topic through the ordinary interface alone.

It is not a guarantee against a participant deliberately changing their own client. The creator describes the threat model as semi-honest and acknowledges that a technically sophisticated person who modifies their browser runtime could bypass the reveal gate or submit an inflated input set to infer answers. The creator says an 80-item server payload cap is intended to make full-dictionary scraping harder; that is a mitigation claim, not proof that inference is impossible. The author explicitly treats partner integrity as a social constraint rather than a mathematically perfect zero-knowledge guarantee.
Where are answers stored or processed?
The creator says the browser handles the selections and private keys, while a Flask backend relays scrambled payloads. This describes what the relay is claimed to receive, not an independently confirmed account of the deployed service’s data handling. The available description does not establish whether the service retains any data, for how long, or what its logs contain. Readers should not treat “browser-side cryptography” as a verified promise that no information is ever stored or exposed.

Is BlindFlag a real compatibility test?
No evidence presented for the prototype establishes it as a scientifically validated compatibility assessment. A matching dealbreaker can identify a subject worth discussing; it cannot determine whether two people are compatible, predict a relationship’s outcome, or decide what either person should do.
Research supports treating dealbreakers as context-dependent rather than universal. Jonason and colleagues’ 2015 paper reports five studies and describes differences across relationship contexts. In its U.S. sample of 5,541 single adults, the reported long-term dealbreakers included disheveled or unclean appearance (67%), laziness (66%), and being too needy (63%). Those percentages describe that study’s sample and measures, not all people or any particular couple. In a separate undergraduate study of 92 participants, the mean number of listed dealbreakers was 4.85 for long-term relationships and 3.08 for short-term relationships. Why do relationship goals matter?
A prompt that matters for a committed, long-term partnership may not carry the same weight for someone seeking a different kind of relationship. The study’s reported items span subjects such as anger or abuse, dating multiple partners, trust, already being in a relationship, health, substance use, distance, children, lifestyle, and sexual compatibility. They are examples from research, not a universal checklist.
Before comparing answers, agree on what kind of relationship you are considering and what each prompt means to you. A useful conversation asks whether a selection reflects a firm boundary, a concern that depends on circumstances, or a preference that could change with more information. People’s orientations, cultures, experiences, and relationship goals differ; a shared label does not explain the reasons behind it.

How to use a dealbreaker result constructively
- Set the context first. Clarify the relationship goal and what each prompt means to each person.
- Use a match as a conversation starter. Ask what is behind the selection and whether it represents a boundary or a conditional concern.
- Keep privacy expectations realistic. BlindFlag’s mutual-reveal behavior and relay handling are described by its creator, while its stated threat model does not prevent a determined participant from modifying their own client.
- Make decisions from the conversation, not a score. A quiz result does not substitute for judgment, communication, or professional support when needed.
