Blake wants to make Nintendo’s upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Switch 2 the first video game he fully completes. “This will be the first, and likely only, video game I actually beat,” he told GamesRadar+ in an interview published October 5, 2026. At the time of that interview, it was a goal—not an accomplishment he had reported.
What does Blake want to do before he dies?
Blake, identified by GamesRadar+ only by his first name, says he has ALS and was given 12 months to live. In a Reddit post linked by the publication, he wrote: “I’m dying, and I plan to make the new OOT the first game I ever fully complete.”
Blake also said a medical breakthrough slowed the disease and that he was in his fifth year after diagnosis, estimating that he might have about a year left. Those are his personal statements, reported by GamesRadar+; the sources do not independently verify his diagnosis or prognosis. His story should not be read as medical guidance or as a basis for predicting another person’s experience.

Why does he want to finish Ocarina of Time?
Blake said he had never completed a video game. He had mainly played competitive and massively multiplayer online games, including Dark Age of Camelot and Destiny. As his reaction speed declined, he said he began turning toward single-player games, which he found more relaxing and rich in story. Ocarina of Time had interested him for a long time, and the timing of this new release made it feel like the right game to take on.
#1 Best Overall
- Become the Hero of Time and save Hyrule from darkness
- Venture into dungeons, solve puzzles, and travel across time in two different eras to restore balance to the land
- A classic tale, reborn for the Nintendo Switch 2 system, featuring voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, symphonic orchestral music, visuals built from the ground up for Nintendo Switch 2, and more
- Play Link’s in-game ocarina by humming or singing into the Nintendo Switch 2 system microphone
GamesRadar+ also reports that Blake plays games with his young daughter. She watches and holds a spare controller while he plays; he described those shared moments as especially meaningful to him and his wife. He has said he expects he may use an iPad and an eye-gaze device for communication and gaming as his condition progresses. That is his anticipated adaptation, not a general recommendation about ALS or assistive technology.
Among the other games he has recently enjoyed, GamesRadar+ names Hades, Celeste, Ori and the Blind Forest, Dredge, and Spiritfarer. Blake said Spiritfarer made him emotional in light of what he was experiencing.

How ALS statistics relate to Blake’s account
The ALS Association says average survival time after diagnosis is about three years, while noting that many people live longer. The page cited by GamesRadar+ does not show a publication year in the reviewed material. This population-level figure neither confirms nor challenges Blake’s personal timeline, which remains his own account.
The Association’s general description of ALS says it can affect abilities such as walking, dressing or writing, speaking or swallowing, and breathing independently. These are possible effects in the broader population, not a prediction about Blake. The CDC’s directory points readers to organizations supporting ALS research, care, and advocacy, including ALS United, ALS Network, and the Les Turner ALS Foundation; it is a directory, not an endorsement. See the CDC’s ALS organizations directory.
