To fix a Black Ops Cold War login or account error, first check whether Activision or your platform reports an outage. Then identify where sign-in fails: at your console or PC account, at your Activision account, or after you are already signed in and trying to connect to the game. Those problems need different fixes.
Check service status before changing settings
An Activision or platform outage can look like a Cold War login or connection failure. Activision’s Black Ops Cold War connection guide recommends checking the game’s service status first. Check your console or PC platform’s status as well. Status changes over time, so check when the error occurs rather than assuming the service is up or down.

Find out where sign-in is failing
You cannot sign in to your console or PC account
This is a platform sign-in problem, not necessarily an Activision account problem. Activision directs players who cannot sign in to their system account to the relevant platform’s internet connection help. Check that platform’s service status and run its connection test.
You are signed in, but Cold War will not connect online
Check Activision’s service status and your platform’s status. If neither reports an issue, use the platform’s connection test and then follow Activision’s network troubleshooting steps. Network troubleshooting can help with connection quality; it cannot correct a password, account-linking, hacked-account, or ban problem.

Check which Activision account holds your progress
Cold War progression is stored on your Activision account. Progress carries across platforms linked to that account, but linking a platform account to a different Activision account does not transfer the progress. Before changing any links, confirm which Activision account owns the progress you want to keep. Activision’s account registration guidance explains the account relationship.
You forgot your Activision password
Use Activision’s password-reset workflow. If you do not receive a reset email, check the address associated with the account and follow Activision’s support options for “I didn’t get a password reset email.” Avoid repeatedly changing account links to solve a password issue.
You cannot complete two-factor authentication
Use Activision’s support option for “I’m having an issue with two-factor authentication.” Do not share passwords or verification codes with anyone offering to recover the account outside the official process.

Activision lists separate support routes for “I can’t link my accounts” and “I don’t have access to the email for my Activision Account.” Choose the route that matches the problem rather than unlinking accounts without first confirming which Activision account contains your progress. Support options are available through Activision Support.
Use account recovery if you suspect someone took over your account
If you see unfamiliar account changes or believe someone else accessed your Activision account, use Activision’s hacked-account recovery process. Activision provides a request workflow for compromised accounts and distinguishes it from ordinary account-linking and enforcement questions. Keep passwords and verification codes private.

Check ban status separately from account recovery
If an enforcement message blocks access, check Activision’s ban status and appeal page. Activision says temporary bans are not eligible for appeal; the page provides an appeal flow for active bans. If you think account compromise caused the problem, use hacked-account recovery instead. The appeal page does not guarantee a particular outcome or review time.

Activision’s Cold War connection guide, dated October 7, 2020, recommends wired Ethernet for gameplay. That can help diagnose a Wi-Fi connection-quality problem, but it will not fix credentials, two-factor authentication, account linking, an enforcement action, or an outage.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If the issue appears to be network quality, work through connection changes one at a time and test after each change. Activision’s guide describes restarting the router, reducing competing bandwidth use, and then considering UPnP, port forwarding, and console-only DMZ testing. Its instructions and menu labels may have aged, so use current platform guidance for console-specific steps. If you test DMZ, Activision says to remove the console’s static IP from DMZ afterward.
If those steps do not help, Activision advises contacting your internet service provider. On a shared school, workplace, or other institutional network, contact the network administrator rather than changing network settings yourself.
Quick Recap
Choose the fix that matches the symptom
- Platform account sign-in fails: Check platform status and platform connection help.
- Activision password, email, two-factor authentication, or linking fails: Use the matching Activision support route and confirm the account holding your progress before changing links.
- You suspect account takeover: Submit an Activision hacked-account recovery request.
- An enforcement message blocks access: Check ban status and appeal eligibility.
- You are signed in but the game cannot connect, or connection quality is poor: Check service status, run the platform connection test, and then follow network troubleshooting.
