New Zealand’s Black Caps are scheduled to face co-host South Africa in Group B at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027. However, two ICC publications give different dates and venues: one lists 8 October in Centurion, the other 9 October in Cape Town. The official material reviewed on 3 October 2026 does not resolve the discrepancy.
When and where will New Zealand play South Africa?
The ICC’s published schedule information conflicts on this fixture. Its detailed fixture article lists South Africa v New Zealand in Cape Town on 9 October 2027, while an ICC media release says South Africa begin against New Zealand in Centurion on 8 October 2027.

Neither account should be treated as the settled fixture without a correction or clarification from the ICC. The reports agree that the teams meet in the group stage, but the final date and venue remain unclear in the ICC material reviewed on 3 October 2026.

No. “Opener” here means South Africa’s first group-stage match, not the first match of the tournament. The ICC schedule says the event starts on 2 October 2027 with a three-team Super Series in Windhoek. Group-stage play begins on 7 October with India v Australia.

What to know about the 2027 tournament
The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 is scheduled to run from 2 October to 21 November and will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. The ICC’s announced tournament scale is 14 teams — International Cricket Council, 2026; 57 matches — International Cricket Council, 2026; and 12 venues — International Cricket Council, 2026.
New Zealand and South Africa are both in Group B. Under the announced format, the three lowest-ranked qualifiers first play a Super Series; its winner joins a 12-team group stage split into two groups of six. The top three teams in each group, plus the better of the two fourth-place teams, advance to a seven-team Super 7 round robin. The top four from that stage reach the semi-finals.
