Bitcoin recovered above $81,000 after President Donald Trump said the United States would not attack Iran before the Nov. 3, 2026, midterm elections. The headline figure of $82,000 is not independently confirmed by the accessible reporting: Bitcoin had earlier fallen below $82,800, and later coverage reported a recovery but did not establish an exact peak. Oil also pulled back briefly after Trump’s remarks, but Brent crude turned upward again during a volatile session.
What Trump said about Iran
On Oct. 8, Trump said the United States would not attack Iran before the Nov. 3 midterm elections. He also said the blockade would remain in force and described discussions with Iran as productive. Axios reported that preparations for possible renewed military operations had been underway and that major differences in discussions remained unresolved. The pledge therefore set a time limit on attacks; it did not announce an end to the conflict or blockade.
The timing matters for interpreting the market reaction. A political statement can alter expectations quickly, but the reporting does not establish that it alone caused Bitcoin’s recovery or oil’s brief pullback.

The available reporting supports a rebound, but not a verified $82,000 high. CoinDesk reported that Bitcoin fell 1.6% to below $82,800 during Asian morning hours, before Trump’s later statement. Pluang’s later coverage reported Bitcoin above $81,000 following the remarks and noted subsequent weakness.

- 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
- BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.
CoinDesk’s page later linked to a newer article with an $82,000 rebound headline, but the accessible text did not verify the exact peak, its timestamp, or a trading venue. Treat $82,000 as a reported headline figure, not a confirmed market-wide high.
Did oil prices fall after Trump’s statement?
Brent crude briefly pulled back after Trump spoke, but the session did not show a sustained decline in the cited account. The Associated Press reported Brent rose 4.1% to $104.28 on Thursday after approaching $106 earlier. After the remarks about productive discussions and no attacks before the election, Brent moved toward $103 briefly, then turned upward again. The AP’s account describes a volatile session, not an oil-price crash or a confirmed lower close.

Why the market response was difficult to read
Expectations shifted, but the underlying risks remained
Traders may respond to a headline before knowing whether policy or physical supply will change. Trump’s announcement addressed attacks before a particular date; the blockade remained in force, and Axios reported that officials saw no sign that key differences in discussions had narrowed. The statement’s effect on Iranian leaders was also uncertain.
The Strait of Hormuz remains important context. Before the war, it carried one-fifth of the world’s oil, according to the AP. The AP also reported that ship traffic and shipments of liquefied natural gas and fuel products remained well below prewar levels. Those figures describe supply risks; they do not show that Trump’s statement changed current flows.

Bitcoin was reacting to more than one influence
CoinDesk tied Bitcoin’s earlier decline to reports of a possible U.S. strike plan as well as other pressures, including an oil-output disruption from a storm, attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels, and rising Treasury yields. It also cited CoinGlass data showing roughly $550 million in leveraged crypto positions liquidated the prior day, mostly among traders betting on higher prices. That was a report about the preceding session, not proof of what caused the subsequent rebound.
