Bitcoin was trading near $85,000 on Friday, October 2, 2026, as investors weighed a weak U.S. jobs report and the prospect of the Federal Reserve holding rates at its October meeting. Yahoo Finance described the setup as shifting in a bullish direction, but an expected hold is not a Fed decision—and the report also warned that bond and credit stress could prompt a short-term Bitcoin drawdown.
What the October 3 report says
Yahoo Finance reported that Bitcoin rose 43% in the quarter, its strongest quarterly performance since 2024, and was near $85,000 on Friday, October 2. These are figures as reported at that time; the report excerpt does not give the price timestamp convention or the calculation behind the quarterly return.
The report connected the market’s reaction to a weak September jobs report and reduced expectations for additional rate hikes. It said more than 75% of market participants expected policymakers to hold rates at the October meeting. That percentage describes a reported market expectation, not a Federal Reserve announcement or guarantee.
Why might investors see a Fed pause as supportive for Bitcoin?
If investors expect rates to stop rising, yields on short-term government debt may become less attractive relative to riskier assets. That shift in expectations can support demand for assets such as Bitcoin, but it does not establish that rate expectations caused a particular price move or that Bitcoin will keep rising.

The report also cited falling two-year real yields as a possible support. Real yields adjust nominal yields for inflation; when they fall, the return available from short-term government debt after inflation is lower. The idea that this makes Bitcoin more appealing is a market thesis, not a mechanical relationship or a reliable price signal.
How the reported drivers compare
| Driver | Why it could support Bitcoin | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Jobs data and Fed expectations | The report linked the weak September jobs report and reduced expectations for further rate hikes to a more supportive market backdrop. | It does not establish that the Fed will pause, or that the reported expectation caused Bitcoin’s move. |
| Two-year real yields | Falling real yields may reduce the relative appeal of short-term government debt, according to the market thesis described in the report. | They do not guarantee a rise in Bitcoin or prove a fixed relationship between yields and price. |
| October seasonality | Fundstrat digital-assets head Sean Farrell said October historically had crypto’s highest median and average returns and an approximately 80% win rate. | The report excerpt does not specify the sample, methodology, or calculation, so the statistic is not a dependable forecast. |
| Sovereign-bond and credit stress | Farrell argued that markets pricing in stress without Bitcoin breaking could improve its forward risk/reward. | He also warned that continued stress could trigger a short-term drawdown; stress is not simply a bullish signal. |
Seasonality is a historical claim, not a forecast
Farrell said the setup had shifted in a bullish direction and cited October seasonality. Yahoo Finance attributed to him the claim that October had crypto’s highest historical median and average returns and an approximately 80% win rate. Because the excerpt does not define the sample or method, those figures should be treated as attributed historical claims rather than independently verified statistics or a prediction for this October.

The downside risk in the bullish reading
Farrell also warned that continued sovereign-bond and credit stress could cause a short-term drawdown. His separate “glass half full” framing—that stress priced in without Bitcoin breaking could improve forward risk/reward—does not remove that downside. Bond or credit strain can therefore appear in the market narrative both as a test Bitcoin might withstand and as a risk that could weigh on its price.
What Citi’s reported price target means
Yahoo Finance reported that Citi analyst Alex Saunders raised a Bitcoin base-case forecast to $113,000 from $82,000. The report excerpt does not state the forecast horizon or assumptions. The target is an analyst forecast attributed by the article, not a price prediction with a specified deadline or a guarantee.

How to read this chart-of-the-day setup
The figures describe a market interpretation reported on October 3, 2026, not a current quote or an independently verified macroeconomic update. The article’s central case is that softer jobs data, expectations for a Fed hold, and lower real yields may be supportive. Its counterweight is that sovereign-bond and credit stress could bring a short-term decline. Neither seasonal history nor a market-implied policy expectation settles what Bitcoin will do next.
