Bills Must Be Paid is a short, active incremental game from Rike Games, a studio the developer describes as based in Frankfurt. You move a hammer over piggy banks, break them for coins, and spend those coins on the bills that keep arriving. The “stress buster” label is promotional framing about how the game feels to play. No clinical study or measured stress outcome supports it.
What the game is
The developer’s official page answers the basic question directly: “A short active incremental game about paying bills by smashing piggy banks. Made by Rike Games in Frankfurt.” The phrase that matters most is active. Many incremental games progress while you do nothing. Bills Must Be Paid asks you to keep swinging, and the developer contrasts it with idle games on that point.
The game is available in a few forms, covered in the platform section below. On every version, the core loop is the same: break piggy banks, collect coins, and manage the bills that come due.
How a run works
A run follows a simple cycle, as the developer describes it.

- Move the hammer over a piggy bank. On desktop, the browser version uses the left mouse button to move the hammer, according to the CrazyGames game page.
- Smash to break the piggy and collect coins. Each break yields coins, and piggy types and random loot vary from one to the next.
- Watch your stamina. Smashing uses stamina. The developer says a run ends when the player’s hand tires, so every run has a built-in limit.
- Spend coins on bills and upgrades. Coins go toward bills and toward a skill tree, which is covered below.
- Start another run. Progression carries forward through upgrades and the skill tree rather than resetting entirely, according to the developer’s description.
Bills: the deadline mechanic
Bills appear during play and come with deadlines. The developer says that ignoring them lets a debt collector take a cut of your earnings. Paying a bill gives you perks and moves progression forward. That creates a small but real trade-off: coins are what pay the bills, and paying is how you keep the most earnings and gain perks.
The developer’s description does not list exact cut percentages, deadline lengths, or how many bills appear in a run. Treat those details as things to learn in play, not as fixed numbers.
Piggies, loot, hammers, and the skill tree
Piggy types and random loot
Piggy banks come in different types, and breaking them can produce random loot. Because the loot is random, two runs starting from the same point can play out differently.

Hammers
Hammers are the main way the game changes how it feels to play. The developer says hammers differ in four characteristics:
- Damage
- Swing speed
- Critical chance
- Hit radius
The developer does not publish numeric values for these stats, so comparisons between hammers are best made by trying them rather than by reading a chart.
The skill tree
Coins can be invested in a skill tree. The developer describes this as the long-term progression layer that sits alongside bill payments and hammer choice.

The developer’s page says iOS and Android are coming. Pocket Gamer has covered the game’s mobile pre-registration page, which is useful context if you want to follow the mobile launch; check the date on that article before relying on it: Pocket Gamer’s title coverage.
The developer also links to itch.io as a place to play. The sources reviewed did not establish a physical edition, so treat this as a digital-only title.

Is it really a stress buster?
“Stress buster” and “strangely satisfying” describe how the game is pitched and how it feels to the people who make it. They are subjective. No clinical study, stress-reduction measurement, or independent test of stress outcomes supports the label. What you can say with confidence is narrower: the game gives a rhythm of breaking, collecting, and paying, and many players will find that repetitive action absorbing. Whether it helps you relax is something only your own play will show.
The active-versus-idle distinction is the most concrete way to judge whether the game suits you. If you enjoy steady physical input and short, bounded runs, the stamina limit and hammer choices may feel satisfying. If you want a game that runs while you do other things, this is a different kind of experience.
What the developer reports about its reach
The official Rike Games page says: “Our games have over 500,000 downloads and 20 million web plays.” These are developer-reported totals across the studio’s games, not figures for Bills Must Be Paid alone. The page gives no date for them, and they have not been independently audited. Read them as the studio’s own claim about its catalogue.

Playing on a PC
The browser version is desktop-only and uses the left mouse button to move the hammer. A standard mouse is enough. No specific gaming mouse is required, and the sources reviewed do not suggest that a premium peripheral improves the experience.
Who it suits
Bills Must Be Paid is a good fit if you want a short, active game with a clear loop, a stamina limit that gives each run a natural end, and enough hammer and loot variety to keep experimenting. It is a poor fit if you want a deep narrative, a game you can leave running, or a title with independently measured wellness benefits. Start with the free browser build or the free Steam demo before committing to a paid version, and check your regional store for current prices and dates.
