For most dealerships, a vehicle-specific listing plugin is a better starting point than a general online store: it can display car details and help shoppers contact the dealership without treating a vehicle like a standard parcel-order checkout. Compare Auto Listings, Inventory Presser, and Motors for manually managed listings; consider Automotive Inventory Importer if stock arrives through XML or CSV feeds. Choose WooCommerce when taking online payments and managing orders is central to the workflow, not simply because the site lists cars.

Choose a workflow before choosing a plugin

“Sell cars” can mean publishing searchable inventory and collecting inquiries, accepting listings from multiple sellers, or taking a payment online. Those are different jobs. A listing plugin can support a dealership’s online showroom without completing a car sale or handling financing, delivery, paperwork, or payment.

  • Dealership inventory and leads: Use a vehicle-focused listing plugin when shoppers need to filter stock, view specifications and photos, and contact a salesperson.
  • Feed-driven stock: Add an importer when inventory is supplied by an XML or CSV feed and manual updates are impractical.
  • Multiple sellers or classifieds: Look for frontend submissions, dealer accounts, and the ability to distinguish sellers; verify which of those functions are included in the version you plan to use.
  • Online orders or payments: Consider WooCommerce as an ecommerce workflow. It is general-purpose rather than a dealership inventory system.

These options are not a ranked performance test. Their official listings describe functions, but do not establish a shared benchmark for speed, reliability, or conversion. Check compatibility and current terms against your WordPress version, theme, and required extensions.

Compare the main options

Plugin Best fit Inventory and listing capabilities Leads, sellers, or payments Cost boundary or requirement
Auto Listings Dealership vehicle inventory and inquiries Vehicle specifications and custom fields, condition, listing status, image galleries, advanced search, and Google Maps. Contact forms are listed. Extensions are advertised for frontend paid submissions and multiple dealers, among other additions. Extension availability is documented; current prices and exact free-versus-paid boundaries are not stated on the cited listing.
Inventory Presser Dealer inventory displayed within an existing theme Vehicle detail and listing pages, blocks and shortcodes; fields include year, make, model, trim, VIN, price, odometer, and engine. Supports multiple lot locations with distinct contact details and hours. The listing does not establish online checkout. Described as free and open source; VIN decoding is a separate add-on. WordPress 5.0 or later is listed as a requirement.
Motors Vehicle dealer or classifieds listings Vehicle details, photos and video, location search, sold labels, and listing comparisons. Dealer registration and frontend submissions, test-drive buttons, and a loan calculator are listed. These do not by themselves establish a complete vehicle-payment workflow. Confirm which functions are in the current free and premium offerings; the cited listing does not establish current prices or every feature boundary.
Automotive Inventory Importer Dealers importing existing XML or CSV stock feeds Field mapping, photo import, search and filtering, and configurable handling of vehicles removed from a feed. Lead capture is identified as a Pro feature; the listing does not establish online checkout. More frequent synchronization and unlimited inventory are also identified as Pro features. Current prices are not stated.
WooCommerce General ecommerce orders and payments Can be used to sell cars, but is not specifically built for vehicle inventory. WPBeginner’s January 28, 2026 comparison describes order and payment handling. That is a different workflow from a dealership listing-and-lead site. The cited comparison does not establish the cost of a complete vehicle-sales setup.
ThemeREX Auto Dealer Another vehicle-listing candidate when its theme and builder requirements fit The cited WordPress.org listing describes an auto-dealer theme/add-on context. WooCommerce integration for deposits or fees is described as Pro-only; this is not evidence of a full car-sale checkout. WooCommerce integration is identified as Pro-only; current pricing is not stated.

Which vehicle-listing plugin fits a dealership?

Auto Listings: vehicle details and inquiry forms

Auto Listings is a direct fit when the site needs structured car pages rather than generic posts. Its WordPress.org listing describes advanced search, new, used, and certified condition labels, specifications and custom fields, listing statuses, image galleries, contact forms, and Google Maps. Advertised extensions include UK DVLA data, RegCheck lookup, frontend paid submissions, multiple dealers, custom pages, and tabs. Treat those as extension capabilities, not assumed features of the base plugin; check the current extension terms before committing.

The WordPress.org changelog records version 2.7.4 on July 17, 2026, with a SQL injection fix. That entry is a dated changelog fact; it does not, on its own, establish the plugin’s present security status or suitability for a particular installation.

Inventory Presser: inventory that fits an existing theme

Inventory Presser’s listing says it adds vehicle listing and detail pages to any theme and offers blocks and shortcodes. Its fields include year, make, model, trim, VIN, price, odometer, and engine. For a dealer with more than one lot, it supports separate contact details and hours by location. The plugin is described as free and open source, while VIN decoding is a separate add-on. The listed minimum requirement is WordPress 5.0; verify compatibility with the WordPress and theme versions you will actually run.

Motors: dealer and classifieds features

Motors targets dealer and classified listings across vehicle types. Its listing describes vehicle details, photos and video, dealer registration, frontend submissions, location search, sold labels, listing comparisons, test-drive buttons, and a loan calculator. This broader feature set may suit a classifieds-style site or a dealership wanting more than a basic inventory display. Before selecting it, confirm which functions are available in the current free versus premium offering.

When to import stock or use ecommerce

Use an importer when inventory comes from a feed

Automotive Inventory Importer is relevant when a dealer already receives stock in XML or CSV form. Its listing documents field mapping, photo import, search and filtering, and configurable handling for vehicles that disappear from the feed. That last setting matters operationally: decide whether a missing vehicle should be removed, hidden, or otherwise treated according to the behavior the plugin actually offers, and test the result with a sample feed before relying on it for live stock.

The listing identifies lead capture, more frequent synchronization, and unlimited inventory as Pro features. If you need those capabilities, compare the current Pro terms and synchronization cadence with the feed provider’s update schedule. An importer only helps if the feed’s fields and update behavior match the dealership’s process.

Choose WooCommerce for an order-and-payment workflow

WPBeginner’s January 28, 2026 editorial comparison describes WooCommerce as a general ecommerce option that can sell cars and handle orders and payments, while noting that it is not purpose-built for cars. That distinction is decisive: use it when ecommerce order handling is genuinely needed, and assess separately how vehicle-specific details, stock changes, inquiries, and sales follow-up will work. Do not assume a vehicle listing plugin’s deposit or fee integration means the plugin manages the entire transaction.

Consider ThemeREX Auto Dealer only if its fit is right

The ThemeREX Auto Dealer WordPress.org listing describes WooCommerce as an optional Pro-only integration for deposits or fees. It is another candidate for vehicle listings, but its theme and builder requirements should fit the site you intend to operate. Verify those requirements and the current Pro terms before choosing it over a plugin that works with your existing theme.

Check these details before installing

  1. Map the stock source: Decide whether staff will enter vehicles in WordPress or whether inventory must come from a feed. For a feed, confirm format, field mapping, photo availability, and what happens when a vehicle disappears.
  2. List the fields and filters shoppers need: Confirm that the plugin supports the dealership’s actual vehicle attributes, search filters, photos, location details, and listing statuses. Do not assume two plugins use the same fields or search behavior.
  3. Define the conversion action: Specify whether the site should collect a contact inquiry, accept a submission from another dealer, schedule a test drive, take a deposit, or manage an order. Verify each action in the exact plugin edition and add-ons under consideration.
  4. Account for locations and sellers: If the business has multiple lots or external sellers, check whether location-specific details, dealer accounts, and frontend submissions are included or require extensions.
  5. Test the theme and page workflow: Review the plugin’s blocks, shortcodes, theme claims, or builder requirements on a staging site. Check a listing page, search results, mobile layout, and the inquiry or submission path.
  6. Verify current compatibility and terms: Compare the plugin’s present requirements with your WordPress setup, and confirm paid feature boundaries, prices, support, and update terms on the official listing or vendor site.

Which plugin should you start with?

  • Start with Auto Listings if the core need is searchable, detailed dealership vehicle pages and inquiries, with potential extension options.
  • Start with Inventory Presser if you want vehicle pages in an existing theme, need multiple lot contact details, and its listed fields cover your stock.
  • Start with Motors if dealer/classified functions such as registrations, submissions, comparisons, or test-drive calls to action are central.
  • Start with Automotive Inventory Importer if the inventory already exists in XML or CSV and synchronization is the hard problem.
  • Start with WooCommerce only when ecommerce orders and payments are the required workflow; it is not a like-for-like substitute for automotive inventory management.
