Wordfeud is the closest well-supported alternative if you want to take turns building words on a shared tile board with friends. It supports friend challenges, flexible turn timing, and up to 30 simultaneous games. If you would rather keep the familiar Words With Friends experience, Zynga still lists classic friend matches alongside solo and other modes. Webfeud is a browser-based possibility, but its official page includes dated platform information, so check that it is currently available for your needs.
What games are like Words With Friends?
For a phone-based, turn-by-turn tile game, start with Wordfeud. It has a 15-by-15 board with premium letter and word squares, and its optional randomized board changes the placement of those premium squares. Zynga’s Words With Friends remains an option if you want the original game’s classic friend challenges plus its other listed modes. Webfeud may suit a friend who wants to play in a browser, though its current platform support is less clear.
These are feature comparisons based on publisher and platform descriptions, not independent head-to-head tests. They do not establish which game has the best matchmaking, dictionary, or overall experience.

Why Wordfeud is the closest alternative
Wordfeud’s core format lines up with what many Words With Friends players want: a shared letter-tile board, turns taken over time, and direct challenges to friends. It also lets players keep several matches going rather than finish one before starting another. Wordfeud says it supports up to 30 simultaneous games and lets players take minutes or hours between moves, so it can suit friends who do not want to be online at the same time.

When Webfeud may make sense
Webfeud is worth considering if a friend would rather use a browser or if the listed language selection matters. Its official site describes browser play, 27 languages, leaderboards, and invitations through Twitter, Facebook, or email. It also calls the game similar to Scrabble and Words With Friends.
There is a meaningful freshness caveat: the site includes legacy device references such as Windows Phone 7 and has a 2014 footer. Its browser description does not by itself establish that every feature, invitation method, or device option remains available today. Confirm that the service works for both players before planning a game around it. Webfeud official site

How to choose a game with your friends
- Check devices first. Choose a game your whole group can access. Wordfeud’s official site lists iPhone, iPad, and Android; its Google Play listing confirms Android. Webfeud describes browser play, but its dated site makes a current availability check important.
- Decide how you want to play. For a relaxed, turn-based match with multiple games in progress, Wordfeud explicitly describes flexible move timing and up to 30 simultaneous games. For solo puzzles or additional modes alongside friend matches, look at Words With Friends’ publisher-listed options.
- Confirm friend invitations. Wordfeud says players can challenge friends; Webfeud describes invitations by social services or email. Check the current game interface and make sure your friends can join before settling on one.
- Check language needs. Wordfeud lists 10 languages and Webfeud lists 27, but a larger language count alone does not establish which dictionary is best for your group. Confirm the specific language and dictionary you need.
For most people asking for a game like Words With Friends to play with friends, Wordfeud is the clearest first try. Webfeud is a browser-oriented possibility if it is currently accessible to both players, while sticking with Words With Friends makes sense if its existing matches and extra modes are what you want.
