The quickest reliable method is your browser’s built-in full-page screenshot command. In Microsoft Edge, open the page, choose Screenshot from the right-click menu or Settings, press Ctrl+Shift+S, then select Capture full page. In Firefox, open its screenshot tool and choose the full-page option. Use Firefox DevTools when you need a delay, device-pixel ratio, filename, or CSS-selector control. A full-page capture includes content below the visible viewport; a normal screen capture does not.
Choose the right type of capture
Start by deciding what you actually need. A visible-screen capture records only the pixels currently shown. A selected-area capture records a region such as a chart or paragraph. A full-page capture stitches or renders the document below the fold into one image. An element capture targets one component, such as a product card or navigation panel.
| Need | Best choice | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One visible moment | Operating-system screen capture | Fastest, but it excludes content outside the viewport. |
| Entire article or landing page | Edge or Firefox full-page tool | Built in and usually requires no installation. |
| One component | Firefox DevTools Screenshot Node | Captures the selected DOM element rather than the whole document. |
| Delay, DPR, filename, or selector | Firefox DevTools :screenshot |
Exposes developer-oriented controls. |
| Annotation, redaction, or extra export formats | Carefully reviewed extension | Useful only when its permissions and data practices are acceptable. |
For long-term reading, searchable text, or printing, a PDF may be more practical than an image. Print-to-PDF behavior varies by browser, operating system, and page, so inspect the result rather than assuming it matches a screenshot or contains every dynamically loaded item.
Microsoft Edge: the easiest documented full-page method
Capture the entire webpage
- Open the webpage and wait until its main content has loaded.
- Right-click the page and choose Screenshot, or open Edge’s Settings menu and choose the Screenshot tool.
- Press Ctrl+Shift+S as an alternative shortcut.
- Choose Capture full page. To capture only part of the page, choose the area-selection option instead.
- Use the overlay to mark up the image, copy it, or save it to a file.
Edge’s documented interface uses the words “Capture full page.” Its help material says the tool can include below-the-fold content and can keep moving content such as GIFs or carousels on screen during capture. Interface labels and shortcut behavior can change with Edge updates, so check the current menu if your installation differs.

- CRISP CLARITY: This 23.8″ Philips V line monitor delivers crisp Full HD 1920x1080 visuals. Enjoy movies, shows and videos with remarkable detail
- INCREDIBLE CONTRAST: The VA panel produces brighter whites and deeper blacks. You get true-to-life images and more gradients with 16.7 million colors

- A BETTER READING EXPERIENCE: For busy office workers, EasyRead mode provides a more paper-like experience for when viewing lengthy documents
When Edge capture is incomplete
- Let fonts, images, and embedded content finish loading before invoking Screenshot.
- Scroll through the page once to trigger lazy-loaded images.
- If a page has a nested scroll box, capture that region separately; a browser tool may treat the outer document and inner scroller differently.
- For a page that keeps changing, pause animation if the site provides a control, or use a delayed developer capture.
Firefox: built-in full-page screenshot
Save or copy a full page
- Open the page in Firefox and open the browser’s screenshot interface.
- Select Full page.
- Choose Download to save the image or Copy to put it on the clipboard.
Mozilla documents keyboard accessibility for moving the selection crosshair. After capture, Command+S on macOS or Ctrl+S on Windows and Linux saves the image; Command+C or Ctrl+C copies it. The exact buttons can vary by Firefox release.
Firefox privacy note
Mozilla says Firefox Screenshots collects interaction events, such as whether someone selected Copy or Save full page, but not the page URL or details of the captured image. That is Mozilla’s stated practice for its feature, not a universal privacy guarantee for screenshots or third-party extensions.
Firefox DevTools for precise control
Enable the screenshot button
- Open DevTools.
- Open the DevTools settings and find Available Toolbox Buttons.
- Enable the screenshot button, then use it to capture the full page.
Use the Web Console command
Firefox’s Web Console provides a :screenshot helper. The useful options are:

--fullpagecaptures the complete document.--delaywaits before capture, useful for a hover state or late-rendering content.--dprselects the device-pixel ratio.--filenamechooses the output name.--clipboardcopies the result instead of only writing a file.--filewrites an image file.--selectortargets an element identified by a CSS selector.
For example, after opening the Web Console, a command such as :screenshot --fullpage --delay 2000 --dpr 2 --filename page.png requests a two-second delay, a device-pixel ratio of 2, and a named file. Use the selector form when you need one component rather than the document. DevTools is more configurable than the normal screenshot UI, but it is less convenient for occasional captures.
Extensions: use only for a specific missing feature
An extension can be worthwhile when you need annotation, redaction, or PNG/JPG/PDF export that your browser does not provide. A store listing advertising those features is not independent proof of quality, privacy, or performance. Before installing one, check its current permissions, supported sites, update history, data-handling statement, and whether it uploads captures. Do not grant broad access to sensitive account pages unless the extension’s behavior is clear.
Prepare a page before capturing
- Wait for layout stability: banners, fonts, ads, and images can shift the page while it is being captured.
- Trigger lazy content: scroll through long pages once, then return to the top.
- Check privacy: close account details, personal notifications, and tokens before saving or sharing.
- Choose an output: PNG is generally suitable for crisp interface text; JPEG can be smaller for photographic pages. Confirm what your browser offers.
- Inspect the result: look for missing sections, duplicated sticky headers, blank image slots, clipped nested scroll areas, and animation frames.
Common problems and fixes
The result contains only the visible viewport
You used a normal screen capture rather than the browser’s full-page command. Reopen Edge Screenshot and select Capture full page, or choose Firefox’s Full page option.

Images or cards are missing
The page may lazy-load content. Scroll through the document first, wait for network activity to settle, and capture again. If content lives inside an inner scroll area, select that area or element instead.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe page is cut off or duplicated
Sticky headers, infinite scrolling, and nested scrollers can confuse document capture. Try an element or area capture, temporarily collapse a sticky component if the site allows it, or use Firefox DevTools with a selector.
The saved file is unexpectedly huge
A long page at a high device-pixel ratio creates a very large bitmap. Capture the relevant element, lower the DPR in DevTools, or use a format and dimensions appropriate for the destination.
Dynamic content shows the wrong state
Use Firefox’s --delay option, wait for the desired state manually, or disable an animation through the site’s own controls. A screenshot is a single moment, not a recording of every state.

An extension asks for excessive permissions
Do not install it automatically. Prefer the built-in browser feature or a service whose documented permissions and handling meet your requirements.
Automate captures with ScreenshotNeo
For repeated captures, CI jobs, many URLs, or pages that need consistent cleanup, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. It accepts one GET request and returns PNG, JPEG, WebP, or a PDF. Before capture, it can accept consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off.
Only clean shots are billed. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and the response identifies the outcome with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
Or skip the browser setup:
See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for all parameters. These runnable examples capture Stripe; replace the URL with the page you need.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a full-page screenshot include content below the fold?
Yes. Edge’s Capture full page and Firefox’s full-page option are designed to include document content beyond the current viewport, subject to page behavior such as nested scrollers and lazy loading.
Can I capture just one element?
Yes. Firefox DevTools offers Screenshot Node from the Inspector, and its :screenshot helper supports –selector.
Should I use a screenshot or PDF?
Use a screenshot when visual arrangement matters. Use a PDF when searchable text or print-oriented reading matters, and verify the result because PDF output varies by browser, operating system, and page.
Recommended Free Tools
Are Chrome, Safari, iPhone, and Android steps covered here?
No exact current steps for those platforms were verified, so do not assume their menus or file behavior match Edge or Firefox.
