Choose by phone-and-case fit, closure, water-test details, and how you carry it. How to choose protection for your event

What IPX8 does—and does not—tell you
The IEC describes IEC 60529 as the standard for degrees of protection provided by enclosures, known as the IP Code (IEC 60529). The label IPX8 does not, on its own, give one universal depth or duration. ABB PMA’s 2024 technical annex says IPX7 covers immersion at 1 metre for 30 minutes, while IPX8 conditions are more severe and the test depth and time are agreed between supplier and customer (IEC standard information).

- Check controls and camera access. A clear window may allow touchscreen use or photography, but those features vary by pouch. Confirm that the panels line up with your phone’s camera and that the controls you need are usable.
- Decide how you will carry it. A lanyard can help keep a pouch attached to you; a claimed floating design may matter around water. Neither removes the risk of loss or proves waterproof performance.
Are there phone rain covers worth recommending?
