For a US IP address, the strongest shortlist is ExpressVPN for broad state coverage, NordVPN for speed, Proton VPN for privacy and a no-data-limit free tier, and Windscribe for a free US option. These are distinct use cases, not a universal ranking: prices, server locations, and streaming access change, and a VPN cannot guarantee that a streaming service will work.
The comparisons below draw on provider statements and independent editorial testing checked on October 7, 2026. Treat test results as the reviewers’ observations, not promises about your connection.
What makes a VPN reliable for a US IP?
A VPN routes your traffic through a chosen server. When you connect to a US endpoint, websites see that server’s US IP address as your apparent network location. This can be useful when you need US-based access, but it does not change your physical location or guarantee that a website or streaming platform will accept the connection. ExpressVPN explains how a US server changes apparent location; Top10VPN and TechRadar report that streaming outcomes differ by provider and service.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor this comparison, “reliable” means a service has relevant US coverage and credible evidence about performance, privacy controls, or practical plan terms. The reviewers use different methods and report different server and city counts, so their figures should not be combined as if they measured the same thing.

Four VPNs for different US-use cases
1. ExpressVPN: broad state coverage
ExpressVPN says it has server locations in all 50 states, making it the clearest fit if your priority is choosing an endpoint associated with a particular state. Top10VPN also reports access across many US cities and successful access to the major streaming services it tested. Those are provider coverage claims and reviewer test results, respectively; neither guarantees that a particular city will be available when you subscribe or that a platform will continue to work.
TechRadar’s 2026 guide lists 55+ US server cities, 3,000+ servers, 105 countries, and support for 10–14 devices depending on plan. Those figures belong to TechRadar’s guide and should not be treated as directly interchangeable with other reviewers’ counts. See the US server coverage details and TechRadar’s US VPN comparison.
Rank #2

Real-world speeds may differ depending on your network configuration.*
- 【Easy Setup】Please refer to the User Manual and the Unboxing & Setup video guide on Amazon for detailed setup instructions and methods for connecting to the Internet.

2. NordVPN: a speed-focused paid option
Top10VPN reports that NordVPN’s NordLynx protocol performed strongly in its speed tests and lists thousands of US servers. These are editorial findings, not a guarantee of a particular speed at your home, workplace, or travel destination. If price matters, compare the full amount charged at signup with the renewal terms: NordVPN says its introductory price applies only to the first subscription term, subscriptions auto-renew unless canceled, and renewal is charged at the then-applicable rate. Its pricing page states a 30-day refund period. Check the current offer and terms at NordVPN’s pricing page.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →3. Proton VPN: privacy controls and a free tier
Proton VPN is worth considering if privacy controls or a free starting point matter more than extensive US geographic choice. Proton says its free plan has no data limits or artificial speed limits, but free access should not be assumed to include every location, streaming feature, or premium capability. The company says paid plans add faster speeds, servers in more than 140 countries, and advanced features; verify which US endpoints are currently available on the plan you want.

Proton lists a kill switch, DNS and IPv6 leak protection, open-source apps, and published independent audits. These are provider statements about its service, not proof that a VPN makes every activity anonymous. Top10VPN reports trade-offs in Proton VPN’s US geographic reach and variable streaming or performance outcomes. Review the US VPN details and free and paid plan distinctions.
4. Windscribe: a free US option with a cap
Top10VPN identifies Windscribe as its free US pick and reports a 10 GB monthly data cap alongside service limitations. That makes it a possible trial or occasional-use option, not a like-for-like replacement for an unlimited paid plan. Check Windscribe’s current free-plan locations, limits, and features before relying on it for regular streaming or other data-heavy use.
Rank #4

How to choose by your main need
- You need a particular state: Start with ExpressVPN’s stated all-50-states coverage, then confirm the precise endpoint is available in the app.
- You care most about tested speed: Consider NordVPN, while remembering that Top10VPN’s results reflect its own test setup and may not match your connection.
- You want a free plan: Compare Proton VPN’s no-data-limit free tier with Windscribe’s reported 10 GB monthly cap. Confirm each service’s current free locations and feature restrictions.
- You mainly want US streaming abroad: Use a reviewer’s results as an indication, not a promise. Platforms can detect or restrict VPN traffic, and their terms still apply.
How to compare cost without being misled
A “per month” figure may represent the monthly equivalent of a longer term paid in advance. Before subscribing, compare the initial total, subscription length, whether promotional months are included, renewal cadence and price, and refund period. NordVPN explicitly says its introductory rate is for the first term and renews at the then-applicable price. Rates and offers can change, so confirm the checkout total and renewal terms on the provider’s page before paying.
What VPN privacy does—and does not—cover
A VPN shifts trust away from the local network or internet provider and toward the VPN operator. It can help protect traffic on an untrusted network and mask your usual IP from sites you visit, but it does not make you anonymous or protect against every threat. Privacy claims should be assessed through concrete controls and independent evidence, not broad promises. Proton lists specific protections and published audits; Top10VPN describes evaluating privacy and security features across providers, but its judgments remain the publisher’s tests.
Best Value
- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
How the test evidence should be read
Top10VPN’s 2026 USA guide says it tested 59 VPNs and reports more than 30,000 total testing hours and more than 50 combined years of experience for its team. It describes regular in-house speed tests and calls average speed loss under 20% an optimal result; that is a methodology threshold, not a claim that any VPN in this list achieved it. The guide compares download speed, worldwide coverage, US platform unblocking, and price. TechRadar’s US guide likewise presents hands-on testing, but its counts and frames differ. Coverage, performance, pricing, and streaming blocks can all change; check the dated editorial guides and live provider terms before you decide. Top10VPN’s methodology and 2026 comparison and TechRadar’s US VPN guide provide their respective context.
