A VPN can make websites see an IP address associated with another country, but it does not normally change your phone’s GPS coordinates. That distinction matters: if you want to change the country a website associates with your connection, choose a VPN with country or server selection. If an app checks your device’s GPS, an ordinary VPN connection may not be enough.
This is a feature-based guide, not a hands-on ranking: the available provider documentation does not establish comparative testing of speed, privacy leaks, or access to particular services. The options below are therefore organized by what their documented features can help you do.
What does “geo spoofing” mean with a VPN?
People use “geo spoofing” to mean at least two different things. A VPN routes internet traffic through one of its servers, so a website generally sees the VPN server’s public IP address rather than your home connection’s. A site may use that IP address to estimate your country or region.
Your phone’s GPS is a separate location signal. A standard VPN connection does not change GPS coordinates reported by the device. An app that checks GPS, rather than—or in addition to—your IP address, may therefore continue to identify your actual location.

Which VPNs have relevant documented features?
The providers below address different parts of the problem. Feature and coverage details are provider-reported, can change, and are not a substitute for testing on your device or with a particular website.
For changing the IP country: NordVPN
NordVPN documents selecting a country or server and explains that websites see the VPN server’s IP address. Its server page reported 7,130 servers across 150 countries when accessed on October 7, 2026; those provider-reported counts are subject to change. This is relevant when your goal is to have an IP address associated with a chosen country. It does not establish that a site will accept the connection or display the intended location.

For broad documented location choice: ExpressVPN
ExpressVPN’s support page, last updated September 15, 2026, says users can manually choose servers in 113 countries and 214 server locations. It also describes Smart Location, which selects a server using factors including download speed, latency, and distance. These are provider-reported features, not comparative test results. Manual selection is useful when you have a particular country in mind; Smart Location is intended for users who do not. ExpressVPN says a connection to one of its server locations gives the user a different IP address and can make them appear to be in another country. For documented logging disclosures: Proton VPN
Proton VPN says it does not log websites visited, traffic or communications content, IP addresses, session lengths, or location-based information. It also says its no-logs policy was tested in a 2019 legal case and externally reviewed. These are Proton’s statements about its policy and review; they do not mean that a VPN guarantees anonymity. How to choose for your specific goal
- You want websites to see an IP associated with a chosen country: look for manual country or server selection, as documented by NordVPN and ExpressVPN.
- You do not care which country is selected: a server-selection feature such as ExpressVPN Smart Location may be more convenient than choosing manually.
- Your priority is understanding logging policy: read the provider’s policy and independent-review details, where available. A no-logs statement is not a promise of complete anonymity.
Why a VPN may not show the expected location
IP geolocation is an estimate made by third-party databases, not a location guaranteed by the VPN. NordVPN Support notes that a site may show an incorrect location because its database is outdated. A location mismatch by itself does not prove that the VPN failed to connect; the site’s data or another location signal may be responsible.

What this comparison can—and cannot—establish
The documented features support a practical distinction: country selection addresses IP-based location, while a GPS override addresses the separate coordinates an Android device reports. The listed coverage figures and privacy descriptions come from the providers themselves. No comparable independent test results are established here for speed, leak protection, streaming access, or overall performance, so the providers are not ranked by those measures.
