Proton VPN and NordVPN are the two providers in the available evidence that document Kyrgyzstan locations. Proton says its Kyrgyzstan option provides a Kyrgyzstan IP through Smart Routing, with the underlying server physically elsewhere. NordVPN lists Kyrgyzstan with one city, but its cited listing does not establish whether that endpoint is physically in the country. Neither listing proves speed, reliability, or streaming access from Kyrgyzstan. The right choice depends on whether you need a Kyrgyzstan IP address or a physically local server—and local performance remains unverified.
What “a Kyrgyzstan VPN” can mean
Before choosing a provider, distinguish between an IP address that appears to be in Kyrgyzstan and a VPN server physically located there. These are related but different features.
- Kyrgyzstan exit IP: Websites and services may see a Kyrgyzstan IP address. This can matter when a service uses the apparent country of your connection, but compatibility with any particular service is not established here.
- Physical server in Kyrgyzstan: Your traffic exits through hardware in the country. Physical proximity and network routing can affect latency, but a country listing alone does not prove the server is local or show how it performs on a particular Kyrgyz ISP.
If you are connecting from Kyrgyzstan to a nearby physical endpoint, latency may be more relevant than the country displayed by an app. If you need a Kyrgyzstan-looking address while abroad, the IP-location claim is the key question.

Which provider should you choose?
Choose Proton VPN if the Kyrgyzstan IP is what you need
Proton explicitly says paid-plan users can select a Kyrgyzstan location to present a Kyrgyzstan IP address. Its Smart Routing explanation also makes clear that the server is physically elsewhere. That distinction matters if your requirement is specifically a local physical exit point rather than an IP that appears to be in Kyrgyzstan.

Consider NordVPN if you want another documented Kyrgyzstan listing
NordVPN lists Kyrgyzstan with one city, but the cited page does not establish whether the endpoint is physical, identify the city in the extracted listing, or measure its performance. Confirm these details with NordVPN before relying on a physical-server requirement.
Do not treat either listing as a local speed or streaming result
No independent speed measurement from Kyrgyzstan or local streaming success rate is established by the available evidence. A location list cannot tell you how a service will perform from Bishkek, another Kyrgyz city, or your ISP. If a particular streaming platform matters, check that platform from the relevant country and network rather than assuming compatibility from a provider’s country list.

What the available performance comparison can—and cannot—show
NordVPN’s August 10, 2026 account of an Artifact Security comparison reports these overall scores: NordVPN, 91; ExpressVPN, 84; ProtonVPN, 83; Surfshark, 81; and Mullvad, 70. NordVPN says the comparison covered 55 routes originating in Frankfurt, London, Singapore, New York, and San Francisco. The figures are scores attributed to Artifact Security by NordVPN, not Kyrgyzstan-specific measurements. Since Kyrgyzstan was not among the stated origin regions, they cannot rank performance on Kyrgyz networks.

- Define the location requirement. Decide whether you need an IP that appears to be in Kyrgyzstan, a server physically in Kyrgyzstan, or simply a secure connection while you are there.
- Check the exact endpoint. Ask the provider whether the location is physical or virtual, where the server is located, and whether the app’s country label refers to the IP location or hardware location.
- Check availability on your network. Confirm that the service and its apps work from your current country, ISP, and device. A provider’s worldwide availability claim does not establish reliability on your specific connection.
- Look for evidence relevant to your decision. Distinguish independent audits or tests from provider feature descriptions. Check the test scope and origin regions before applying a result to Kyrgyzstan.
- Match the app and protocol to your devices. Confirm support for your operating systems and the protocols you intend to use; do not assume every protocol is available on every device.
- Check the full commercial terms. Review current price, renewal price, billing period, refund conditions, and country availability directly with the provider before subscribing.
VPN use and the legal context in Kyrgyzstan
Proton VPN’s undated Kyrgyzstan page, accessed October 7, 2026, says: “There’s no specific law that bans VPNs, and their use is common in Kyrgyzstan. However, although you can’t get in trouble for simply using a VPN, what you do while connected to a VPN is still subject to Kyrgyzstani laws.” This is Proton’s characterization, not independent legal advice.

Separately, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic announced on July 28, 2025 that a law had been signed prohibiting dissemination in Kyrgyzstan’s internet space of content containing pornographic elements. The announcement says the law provides for suspension of a relevant website or page for up to two months and requires providers and relevant site owners to block access. Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 154, dated March 6, 2026, sets out implementation measures, including a blocked-sites register and procedures to restrict or suspend sites. These sources describe restrictions concerning specified content and websites; they do not establish a ban on VPN use.
