If you need a Greek IP address, choose a VPN that offers a Greece location—but do not assume it will be the fastest in Athens or unlock every Greek TV service. The available provider information confirms Greek locations from Proton VPN and NordVPN, but it does not establish a current Athens speed winner or independently verify reliable access to Greek channels. Use the comparison below to choose a candidate, then test your exact service, device, and server.
Which VPNs offer a Greek server?
A VPN routes your internet traffic through a provider’s server. When you select a Greek exit location, websites see the server’s Greek IP address rather than your usual IP. That can be useful when you are abroad and want a Greek location, but it does not guarantee that a streaming service will allow playback.
| VPN | What the evidence says about Greece | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Proton VPN | Proton says it offers multiple 10 Gbps servers in Greece, Greek IP access, WireGuard support, and apps for major platforms, including TVs. These are provider claims on its official Greece page. | The 10 Gbps figure describes server capacity, not the speed an individual user will get. The page does not establish a current fastest provider in Athens or verified access to particular Greek TV services. |
| NordVPN | NordVPN’s server directory lists Greece as a one-city location. Its separate dedicated IP location list identifies Athens for dedicated IPs. | The dedicated-IP listing does not prove that all standard NordVPN servers are physically in Athens. The cited information does not establish comparative Athens speeds or guaranteed Greek-TV playback. |
Proton reported installing eight servers in an Athens data center in 2019. That is historical launch information, not a current server count or performance result; see its October 22, 2019 announcement.

No current fastest option can be named from the available comparable evidence. A provider’s advertised server capacity, a selectable Greece location, and a user’s measured connection speed are different things. Your result also depends on your ISP, distance to the server, time of day, protocol, network congestion, and the server you select.

VPN Advisor says its page, updated May 2026, describes testing six VPNs, with 342 speed tests and more than 180 hours of streaming across Athens, Thessaloniki, and Heraklion. It says testing used Greek IPs and an iPerf3 server, and that streaming checks included ERT Play, Netflix Greece/US, Disney+, and COSMOTE TV. These are VPN Advisor’s methodology claims; the material does not provide sufficiently transparent underlying results to validate a speed winner. The page’s headline refers to 12 providers, while its described testing says six, so those counts should not be conflated. See VPN Advisor’s Greece VPN page.

For a useful head-to-head comparison, test the same connection repeatedly and record the conditions alongside each result:

- Your location and ISP, plus a baseline test with the VPN disconnected.
- Test date and time, VPN protocol, and the exact server or location selected.
- Latency, download speed, and upload speed for each run.
- Repeated runs, rather than a single best result, so variation is visible.
Without those details, a speed figure is difficult to compare with your own Athens connection.
Will a Greek VPN server let you watch Greek TV abroad?
A Greek IP can make a connection appear to come from Greece, but it cannot override a broadcaster’s rights restrictions, account rules, or VPN detection. Check the broadcaster’s own terms and test the exact on-demand service, device, and VPN server you intend to use. Access can differ by channel and may change over time.

VPN Greek’s April 13, 2026 article claims NordVPN and Surfshark can access named Greek channels from abroad. The cited page does not provide enough reproducible detail to confirm each channel’s availability today, so treat that as the publisher’s claim rather than a playback guarantee. See VPN Greek’s article.
How to choose and test a VPN for Greece
- Confirm the location. Check that Greece is selectable in the app. Note whether the provider identifies a city or only a country; do not assume a dedicated-IP city listing applies to every standard server.
- Check your device. Verify that the provider has a supported app for the device you plan to use. Proton lists apps for major platforms, including TVs, on its Greece page.
- Test the exact TV service. Connect to a Greek server, open the broadcaster’s app or website on your intended device, and try the specific live or on-demand program. If it fails, try another Greek server if available; the IP location alone does not promise access.
- Measure speed under consistent conditions. Record your unprotected baseline, then repeat tests on the VPN using the same device, network, protocol, and test method. Compare latency, download, and upload rather than relying on a capacity label.
- Review privacy and subscription terms separately. Read the provider’s privacy information and check the scope of any independent audit or assurance. The evidence here does not establish comparable audit details for all providers. Prices, discounts, refund terms, and subscription conditions change, so confirm current terms directly before subscribing.
What the available comparisons can—and cannot—tell you
The strongest supported distinction is between having a Greek location and proving a specific outcome. Proton VPN’s published network and app details, NordVPN’s Greece listing, and third-party testing descriptions can help identify options to evaluate. They do not by themselves show which provider is fastest on your Athens ISP or guarantee that a named Greek broadcaster will play from abroad.
