There is no evidence-based universal winner among enterprise voice AI platforms in 2026. Recent surveys show growing adoption, not that top companies prefer voice agents to human service or other automation. The right choice depends on the job the agent will do, the countries and systems it must work with, governance requirements, and results in a controlled pilot.

What does the adoption research actually show?

AVOXI and Metrigy’s 2026 State of International Voice for the Contact Center Report surveyed 200 IT, contact-center, and customer-experience leaders at multinational companies across seven industries. In AVOXI’s September 29, 2026 announcement of the findings, 55% of surveyed organizations said they already used AI voice agents; 92% said they used them or planned to use them within two years. Among organizations with more than 10,000 employees, 71% reported current use.

Those figures describe reported use and plans among the survey’s respondents. They are not a census of companies, a comparison with other service channels, or proof that large or leading companies prefer voice agents. Adoption also does not establish whether deployments are effective or which platform performs best.

A separate, vendor-sponsored 2025 survey by Deepgram and Opus Research of 400 business leaders across more than a dozen industries provides historical context: 67% said voice AI was core to product and business strategy. The same survey reported that 80% used traditional voice-agent systems, but only 21% were very satisfied. That gap is a reason to evaluate outcomes rather than assume that adoption equals success.

What are companies using voice AI agents to do?

In the AVOXI and Metrigy 2026 survey, reported use cases ranged from identity checks to supporting human staff. These figures describe AI voice users in the survey:

  • Authentication and identity verification: 81% reported this use.
  • Transactions: 69% reported using voice AI for tasks such as completing customer transactions.
  • Real-time agent assistance: 68% reported using it to help human agents during interactions.

For the division of work, 67% said AI voice helps human agents focus on more complex or empathetic cases, while 17% said it replaces Tier 1 agents entirely. These are survey responses, not independently measured rates of successful resolution or customer acceptance.

AVOXI CEO Barbara Dondiego described the tension between automation capability and customer comfort this way: “The fact that 67% of enterprises are using AI to augment their human agents, while separate Metrigy research found that 73% of companies believe AI agents can handle more than customers are comfortable entrusting to them, tells us something important about the healthy tension enterprises must navigate when it comes to voice AI.” The 73% figure is attributed to separate Metrigy research, not the 2026 AVOXI/Metrigy survey figures above.

Which voice AI platforms are on the 2026 enterprise shortlist?

Gartner’s public abstract for its July 7, 2026 Magic Quadrant for Conversational AI Platforms names 14 vendors included in the full research: Avaamo, Boost.ai, Druid AI, Google, IBM, Kore.ai, Netomi, NiCE Cognigy, Omilia, PolyAI, Salesforce, SoundHound AI, Sprinklr, and Yellow.ai.

This is a research-backed market longlist, not an ordinal ranking, endorsement, or voice-only best-in-class selection. Gartner’s public abstract describes a market shifting around multimodality, agentic AI, governance, and mergers and acquisitions, but detailed vendor evaluations—including comparative strengths and cautions—are not available in the abstract. It does not establish which vendor is best for a particular enterprise.

Evaluation area What to verify
Workflow and authority Define the task—such as answering a service question, verifying identity, handling a transaction, supporting sales, or assisting a live agent. Specify what the agent may decide or change, what it must not do, and when it must hand off to a person.
Languages and geography Confirm speech recognition and spoken responses for the languages and accents your customers use, plus telephone-number connectivity and the infrastructure needed in every intended market. Test locally; a claimed language or country listing alone does not prove call quality or operational availability.
Security and governance Request evidence relevant to your obligations: compliance controls, data residency and sovereignty, privacy protections, recording and retention settings, access controls, audit trails, and escalation procedures.
Telephony and business systems Check compatibility with your CRM and contact-center stack, SIP and carrier connectivity, and any on-premises or cloud constraints. Determine who operates integrations and how provider consolidation would affect support and reliability.
Customer and employee outcomes Measure correct resolution, customer satisfaction, time to resolution, safe handoff, and human-agent workload against an existing baseline. Do not treat a natural-sounding demo as proof of a successful service experience.
Testing and ongoing improvement Find out how you can run repeatable simulations, inspect failures, test unusual or adversarial inputs, track changes, and monitor production behavior. Establish who reviews results and how a problematic change can be rolled back.

These criteria address issues respondents reported in the AVOXI and Metrigy 2026 survey. Organizations said they served customers in an average of 37 countries but had production AI voice deployments in an average of 17. Security and compliance were cited as barriers to broader deployment by 61%; 51% cited data sovereignty and privacy. The averages indicate a gap in this survey’s respondents, not a target or guarantee for any individual company.

For model adaptation, Deepgram and Opus Research’s 2025 vendor-sponsored survey found that 46% cited fine-tuning models as a key to greater adoption. Treat that as a signal to ask how a platform handles domain-specific language and improvement—not as proof that fine-tuning is required or that one vendor’s method is superior.

How do you choose and pilot a platform?

  1. Choose one bounded, valuable workflow. Define the customer need, the agent’s permitted actions, the expected outcome, and the cases that require a person.
  2. Record a baseline. Capture current resolution, transfer, satisfaction, time-to-resolution, and staff workload measures that are relevant to that workflow.
  3. Build a qualified shortlist. Remove candidates that cannot meet required system integrations, target-market connectivity, language needs, security controls, or deployment constraints.
  4. Run the same test cases on each candidate. Include common calls, ambiguous requests, incorrect or missing information, interruptions, background noise, and requests outside the agent’s authority. Review both successful outcomes and failures.
  5. Pilot with a human fallback. Keep escalation available, define what triggers it, and make it possible to review the interaction and recover safely when automation fails.
  6. Expand only after reviewing evidence. Compare pilot results with the baseline, examine failure patterns and customer feedback, and continue monitoring after changes to prompts, models, integrations, or call flows.

This process is practical guidance based on the reported deployment barriers and evaluation needs; it is not a tested vendor ranking. Coval’s vendor-authored 2026 report advocates systematic testing, multi-model orchestration, and continual improvement. Its framework is a vendor perspective, not independent comparative proof that a particular platform or architecture will work best.

Can AI voice agents handle customer support calls in production?

The AVOXI and Metrigy survey indicates that many respondents already deploy them, including for transactions, identity verification, and agent assistance. It does not establish that an agent can safely handle every support call, nor does it supply a universal success rate. Production suitability depends on the workflow’s risk, the agent’s permissions, local language and telephone coverage, system integrations, governance, and the quality of its human handoff.

For a first deployment, prefer a task with a clear success condition and a recoverable failure. Keep consequential or ambiguous cases within a defined escalation path, then use monitored results to decide whether the scope should change.
