If you’re shopping around the $400 mark, the BAM Conservatoire 43 cm and GEWA Varianta are two listed examples below that price: $306 and $320, respectively, on the manufacturers’ product pages accessed in 2026. Their published features differ, and neither listing establishes independently tested impact protection. Check your viola’s body length and bout widths against the case’s internal measurements before buying; a size label alone cannot confirm fit.
How to choose a viola case
Start with fit, then weigh protection design, carrying comfort, storage, shape, and price against how you use the instrument. Measure your viola before comparing cases

GEWA’s general brand page says, “Glass-reinforced synthetic resin offers reliable protection and moderate weight at an affordable price”; that is the company’s general material claim, not independent test evidence or a specification for the carbon-fibre Idea 2.8.
