Best value depends on how long you plan to keep a site and which features it needs. SiteGround StartUp has the lowest displayed first-year total in this comparison, while Bluehost Starter offers more listed website capacity at signup. But the introductory price can be misleading: these plans require different prepayment terms and have sharply different renewal rates.
The prices below are U.S. displayed prices observed on October 7, 2026. They can change, so verify the provider’s checkout before buying. Compare the total due for the initial term and the renewal bill—not just the monthly figure.
How the plans compare on price and included features
The initial totals below are calculated from each displayed monthly rate and its required prepayment term. Renewal totals use the renewal term where the provider states one. Taxes and other checkout charges may affect what you pay.
| Plan | Initial term and displayed price | Initial term total | Renewal price | Selected included details |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bluehost Starter | $3.99/month for 36 months | $143.64 for 36 months | $9.99/month for a 36-month renewal term; $359.64 for that term | 10 websites, 10 GB NVMe storage, provider-estimated “ideal for 40K visits/month,” weekly backups, and 24/7 chat support. Phone support is not included. U.S. page says VAT/GST are not included. |
| SiteGround StartUp | $2.99/month, prepaid for 12 months | $35.88 for 12 months | $17.99/month; $215.88 for 12 months at that rate | One website, unlimited traffic, 10 GB storage, free email, daily backups, SSL/CDN, and managed WordPress updates. |
| SiteGround GrowBig | $4.99/month, prepaid for 12 months | $59.88 for 12 months | $29.99/month; $359.88 for 12 months at that rate | Unlimited websites and traffic, 50 GB storage, daily backups, email, and staging. |
| SiteGround GoGeek | $7.99/month, prepaid for 12 months | $95.88 for 12 months | $44.99/month; $539.88 for 12 months at that rate | Unlimited websites and traffic, 100 GB storage, daily backups, email, staging, Git, and priority support. |
Bluehost’s visit figure is a provider estimate, not a guarantee. “Unlimited traffic” is a different kind of claim; it is not directly comparable to an estimated monthly visit count.

Which plan is the best value for your use case?
For a new, single-site blog
SiteGround StartUp has the lowest listed first-term total here: $35.88 for 12 months, before any applicable taxes or other charges. It includes email and daily backups as well as managed WordPress updates. Its renewal rate is much higher than its introductory rate, however, so include the ongoing bill in your budget.
Rank #2
For several smaller sites on one plan
Bluehost Starter lists 10 websites and 10 GB NVMe storage, compared with one website on SiteGround StartUp. Its displayed offer requires a 36-month commitment, making the signup total $143.64 rather than a one-year payment. The provider’s “ideal for 40K visits/month” description is an estimate, not a promise of capacity.
For a site that needs staging or more storage
SiteGround GrowBig adds staging and lists 50 GB of storage; GoGeek lists 100 GB, staging, Git, and priority support. Those additions may matter for development workflows or sites with larger storage needs, but the renewal prices—$29.99 and $44.99 per month respectively—are substantially higher than their introductory rates.
Rank #3
For a store or business site
Do not choose on site count alone. Check whether your expected traffic, storage, backup and restore needs, staging workflow, support access, and email requirements fit the plan. The listed features do not establish how a provider will perform for a particular store or site configuration.
How to judge the real cost over time
Initial monthly rates conceal two important differences: how long you must prepay and what the provider charges afterward. Bluehost’s listed Starter offer spans 36 months; SiteGround’s listed introductory rates span 12 months. Their initial totals therefore cover different periods and should not be ranked as if they were equivalent.
Rank #4
- Set your comparison period. Decide whether you are budgeting for the first year, the first three years, or longer.
- Calculate the amount due now. Multiply the displayed monthly rate by the required prepaid months. For example, Bluehost Starter is $3.99 × 36 = $143.64; SiteGround StartUp is $2.99 × 12 = $35.88.
- Estimate the later bill using the renewal rate. SiteGround lists renewal rates monthly, and Bluehost states a monthly renewal rate for a 36-month renewal term. Confirm the term and amount in checkout before committing.
- Check features you would otherwise pay for. Backups, email, staging, migration, support, and security tools can change the practical value of a plan. Confirm exactly what is included and whether restores or other services carry limits or extra charges.
The totals above are arithmetic based on displayed rates, not a guarantee of your final bill. Provider offers and renewal pricing can change, and checkout may show additional charges.
How much should you weigh performance claims and recommendations?
The listed features and rates do not identify a like-for-like performance winner. TechRadar says its reviews assess signup, ease of use, and features and conduct speed, uptime, and reliability tests, but its reviewed material does not provide a common test table covering every plan here under identical conditions. Its editorial judgments should not be treated as a controlled comparison of these plans.
Best Value
WordPress.org’s hosting page says its listing is “completely arbitrary” and describes several criteria, including contributions to WordPress.org, customer base, ease of installation and updates, and other factors. That listing is useful context, but it is not an objective value score or proof that a listed provider is the best-performing choice.
Bluehost’s official page describes a 99.99% uptime SLA for shared hosting. That is a provider-stated service commitment subject to its terms, not an independently observed uptime result for an individual site.
