If you’re waiting for a 2026 phone, the clearest confirmed option as of October 5 is Apple’s iPhone Duo, a foldable scheduled to go on sale later this month. The October Android picture is less settled and more regional: India’s Redmi 17C 5G has reportedly launched, while vivo has announced an October 6 event for the V80 and S2 FE. Which one makes sense for you depends on your market, budget and willingness to wait for a final announcement.
Upcoming phones to watch in October 2026
This is a status-based shortlist, not a tested ranking of the best phones. Apple has published the iPhone Duo’s specifications, U.S. price and rollout dates. For the Android models below, the available details come from regional reporting and do not establish a comparable set of confirmed specifications or prices.

What the iPhone Duo announcement means for buyers
Apple announced the iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026. Its two displays make it a foldable rather than a conventional slab-style phone: the outer screen measures 5.4 inches and the inner screen 7.6 inches. Apple also names an A20 Pro chip and a dual-battery architecture, but those specifications alone do not establish how the phone performs in everyday use.

Apple schedules preorders for October 16, availability beginning October 23 in more than 70 countries and regions, and an October 30 start in 28 additional countries and regions. All of these dates are still in the future on October 5. Check Apple’s announcement for the rollout applicable to your country; the U.S. price should not be assumed to apply elsewhere.

For U.S. buyers, the starting configuration is 256GB at $1,999, with 512GB, 1TB and 2TB options also listed by Apple. The announcement does not provide a basis for comparing prices in other markets. A high starting price makes it especially important to compare the correct storage tier and local price before deciding whether to preorder.
What is known about October Android launches in India
Redmi 17C 5G: reported launched October 1
Smartprix’s October 1, 2026 roundup says the Redmi 17C 5G launched in India on October 1. That is a regional launch report, not evidence that the phone is available worldwide. The roundup includes technical information, but reported specifications should not be treated as manufacturer-confirmed here.

Smartprix says vivo confirmed the V80 and S2 FE for an October 6 event. As of October 5, the event is still ahead, so these are not yet phones with a completed October 6 announcement. The report’s additional model details remain secondary reporting unless confirmed by vivo.

How to choose which phone to wait for
- Start with your country. A launch in India does not establish availability in the U.S. or elsewhere. For the iPhone Duo, distinguish the October 23 rollout from the October 30 rollout and check which applies to your region.
- Decide whether you want a foldable. The iPhone Duo has both an outer and an inner display. If you want a conventional phone, do not infer from this shortlist that a foldable is the right fit; the Android reports here do not provide enough confirmed comparative detail to rank alternatives.
- Set a budget using local prices. The $1,999 starting price is for the iPhone Duo’s 256GB U.S. configuration. The cited India roundup does not state prices for the Redmi 17C 5G, V80 or S2 FE, and Apple’s U.S. price is not a substitute for local pricing.
- Weigh certainty against timing. Apple has announced the Duo’s schedule, while the India Android information is a mix of a reported launch and a reported upcoming event. If a firm date matters more than seeing a new model immediately, prioritize manufacturer announcements over expectations in roundups.
- Wait for the details you need. Before committing, look for your market’s official price, the exact storage configuration and manufacturer-confirmed specifications. A launch date or event listing by itself does not answer those buying questions.
Why older 2026 launch calendars may mislead
TechPP’s “2026 Smartphone Launch Calendar: Everything Coming This Year” says it was last updated January 25, 2026. That predates the October updates and is not a reliable current schedule for what remains upcoming. iTechGuides’ October 3 roundup distinguishes Apple’s announced timing from Android dates it describes as reported or expected, but those Android claims should still not be elevated to official confirmation.
