For Call of Duty on a current console, look for a TV with a native 120Hz panel, 4K at 120Hz on the HDMI input you will use, variable refresh rate (VRR), and a low-latency game mode. Those features help the display keep up with supported high-frame-rate modes; they do not guarantee that every Call of Duty title or mode runs at 120 frames per second. For PC play, refresh rates above 120Hz can matter if your hardware and game output can use them.

What matters most for Call of Duty

Native 120Hz for console play

Some games on current PlayStation and Xbox consoles can output up to 120 frames per second, making a native 120Hz TV a sensible target. Support depends on the specific game, console, and mode. Check the Call of Duty title and mode you play rather than assuming a 120Hz display will make the game run at 120 fps. Which? discusses the 120Hz and resolution caveats for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S gaming: Which?’s gaming TV guide.

4K at 120Hz on the right input

A TV may advertise a 120Hz panel but limit resolution when operating at that refresh rate. Before buying, confirm that the exact screen size and regional model supports 4K/120Hz through the HDMI input you intend to connect to. Also check the console’s output settings and the TV’s input configuration requirements.

VRR, ALLM, and game-mode latency

VRR can help synchronize the display with variable game output, while ALLM can switch the TV to a lower-latency mode when a compatible device is connected. Do not rely on the words “HDMI 2.1” alone: feature support can vary by TV and port. Confirm VRR and ALLM support for the exact model and input, then use the TV’s dedicated game mode. Tom’s Guide says it generally recommends 10ms or lower input lag for competitive online gaming; that is its editorial guidance, not a universal esports standard. TechRadar’s 120Hz TV guide discusses HDMI features and gaming modes.

OLED or LCD/mini-LED?

OLED for contrast and motion response

OLED is a strong option if you want deep contrast and fast pixel response, qualities that can make motion look clearer. RTINGS’ gaming-TV guide highlights OLED examples, while TechRadar notes OLED response-time strengths. Compare the exact model’s game performance rather than treating panel type as a substitute for checking input lag, refresh support, and VRR.

LCD or mini-LED for a bright room or value

A bright room, reflections, preferred screen size, or budget may make an LCD or mini-LED TV a better fit. TechRadar notes brightness and price advantages for mini-LED, while RTINGS’ comparisons describe trade-offs among panel types. Think about how much daylight reaches the screen and where you sit before prioritizing contrast or peak brightness.

How to choose the right TV for your setup

  1. Start with your platform. For console-only Call of Duty, prioritize native 120Hz and confirmed 4K/120Hz support. For PC, consider higher refresh rates only if your graphics hardware and the game can output them.
  2. Check the exact model and port. Find the full model number and screen size, then verify 4K/120Hz, VRR, and ALLM on the HDMI input you plan to use. A feature listed for one port or size should not be assumed for every variant.
  3. Compare latency and motion. Look for measured input lag in game mode and response-time or motion-blur observations for the exact TV. The 10ms-or-lower target is Tom’s Guide’s general recommendation for competitive online play, not a formal standard.
  4. Match the panel to the room. Favor OLED if contrast and response are priorities and the room suits the TV’s brightness; consider LCD or mini-LED if you need more brightness or a different size/value balance.
  5. Fit screen size to viewing distance and budget. Compare the size you will actually use, then confirm its specifications and price with a current local retailer listing.

Do professional players need more than 120Hz?

Not necessarily. For console play, 120Hz is the key display target in this category; a higher refresh-rate TV does not cause a console game to produce more frames than its supported output. Rates above 120Hz are mainly relevant to PC players whose hardware and game settings can take advantage of them. A fast display is only one part of competitive play, so avoid paying extra for a headline refresh number unless your platform can use it.
