For Destiny 2 on PS5 or Xbox Series X, look for a TV whose exact HDMI input supports 4K at 120Hz, then check VRR and ALLM separately. That gives you the option to use the consoles’ high-refresh output and Destiny 2’s 120Hz Crucible mode—but it does not mean the game runs at 4K/120fps. Bungie lists PS5 and Xbox Series X at 4K/60fps, with the 120Hz mode limited to Crucible and reduced resolution and some advanced graphics settings.
What TV specs matter most for Destiny 2?
Start with the features that affect the console’s video signal and the game mode you intend to play. Check the specifications for the exact TV model and the HDMI port you will use; support can differ between inputs on the same television.
- 4K/120Hz input: Confirm that the relevant HDMI input accepts a 4K signal at 120Hz. PlayStation says PS5 supports 4K/120Hz output, but the TV must support the chosen output too. PlayStation’s PS5 4K and video-output guide recommends checking the television manual.
- VRR: Verify that the specific model and input support HDMI Variable Refresh Rate. PlayStation announced VRR support for Destiny 2 on PS5 in 2022, and using it requires a compatible display. PlayStation’s VRR announcement specifies a compatible HDMI 2.1 VRR display for supported games.
- ALLM or a low-latency mode: Check the manual for the exact set and input. PlayStation cautions that HDMI 2.1 TVs do not all support ALLM, so the HDMI version alone is not enough to confirm it.
- HDR: Confirm HDR support if you want to use it, but the available platform information does not compare TVs’ brightness, contrast, or tone mapping. An HDR label by itself does not establish which TV will deliver the better picture.
Does Destiny 2 run at 4K/120fps on PS5 or Xbox Series X?
No. Bungie’s next-generation console table lists Destiny 2 at 4K resolution and 60fps on PS5 and Xbox Series X. It separately lists 120Hz support for Crucible on those consoles. Bungie explains that enabling the mode switches the game to 120Hz while lowering resolution and some advanced graphics settings. The 120Hz Crucible option is therefore not a promise of 4K/120fps.
The distinction is between the TV’s accepted signal and the game’s rendering mode: a TV can accept a 4K/120Hz console output without Destiny 2 rendering every activity at 4K and 120 frames per second. Bungie’s figures come from its October 15, 2020 next-generation announcement; they are published platform specifications, not a new performance test.

How do the consoles differ?
| Console | Bungie-listed Destiny 2 resolution and frame rate | 120Hz Crucible support |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 | 4K at 60fps | Yes |
| Xbox Series X | 4K at 60fps | Yes |
| Xbox Series S | 1080p at 60fps | No |
These are the values in Bungie’s 2020 next-generation table. The 120Hz feature is specifically for Crucible; do not assume it applies to other activities. Bungie’s support hub provides separate platform support information, but the figures above should not be read as a newly tested 2026 performance review.
How to choose a TV without overpaying for the wrong feature
- Identify your console and the activity you care about. The 120Hz Crucible option applies to PS5 and Xbox Series X in Bungie’s published specifications. Xbox Series S is listed without that option.
- Check the exact model’s input table. Confirm that the HDMI port you will connect to supports 4K/120Hz. Do not rely on a general product-page claim if it does not specify the supported input.
- Check VRR and ALLM independently. Look for support on the same model and intended input. HDMI 2.1 does not, by itself, establish that ALLM is present.
- Assess picture quality separately from feature labels. HDR compatibility is useful to verify, but the cited platform sources do not measure or compare TVs’ HDR performance.
- Compare current models for your region and budget. A model ranking requires current prices, availability, and verified specifications or independent measurements. The platform requirements alone cannot show which television is best.
What about PC players?
The console specifications above do not establish current Destiny 2 performance on PC or a PC-specific display recommendation. For a PC setup, choose a display around the computer’s graphics capability and the refresh rate you actually intend to use, and confirm the game and connection support that mode. The console figures in Bungie’s table should not be applied to PC.
