There is no single tubeless sealant that is best for every bike tire. For road and gravel tires run at higher pressures, Stan’s Rolled Gold is specifically made for that use, while Muc-Off sells a separate Road & Gravel formula rated by its maker for up to 110 psi. For mountain biking, Muc-Off No Puncture Hassle is explicitly aimed at downhill, enduro and MTB tires. Stan’s Original and Vittoria Universal are broader-use alternatives. Manufacturer puncture and longevity claims are not directly comparable across brands, and a recent independent road test does not establish which sealant performs best on mountain bike tires.
Which sealant fits your riding?
| Sealant | Intended use and pressure | Manufacturer puncture claim | Duration or maintenance guidance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stan’s Rolled Gold | Road and gravel; Stan’s says it is optimized for 35–100 psi and low-volume, high-pressure setups. | Up to 7.8 mm at 100 psi, according to Stan’s. | Not stated on the cited product page. |
| Muc-Off Road & Gravel | Road and gravel; Muc-Off states operation up to 110 psi. | Up to 7 mm, according to Muc-Off. | Muc-Off states 3–6 months and recommends checking volume and topping up as needed, especially in hot, dry climates or every 750 miles. |
| Muc-Off No Puncture Hassle | Downhill, enduro and MTB; Muc-Off states 15–80 psi. | Up to 7 mm, according to Muc-Off. | Up to 6+ months in temperate climates, according to Muc-Off. |
| Stan’s Original | Road, gravel and mountain bike tires; the cited page does not state a pressure range. | Up to 6.5 mm, according to Stan’s. | Stan’s says it remains liquid for 2–7 months; arid conditions may require more frequent monitoring. |
| Vittoria Universal | Road and MTB; the cited PDF does not state an operating pressure range. | Up to 5 mm for road and up to 7 mm for MTB, according to Vittoria. | Not stated in the cited PDF. |
These puncture figures are manufacturers’ claims, not results from one shared test, so a larger advertised hole size does not by itself prove that one formula outperforms another. Stan’s Rolled Gold, Muc-Off Road & Gravel, Muc-Off No Puncture Hassle and Stan’s Original specifications are on their respective Stan’s Rolled Gold, Muc-Off Road & Gravel, Muc-Off No Puncture Hassle and Stan’s Original product pages.
Best options for high-pressure road and gravel tires
Stan’s Rolled Gold: the most specifically targeted choice
Stan’s positions Rolled Gold for road and gravel systems, stating an optimized range of 35–100 psi and emphasizing fast sealing in low-volume tires. Its manufacturer claim of sealing a puncture up to 7.8 mm at 100 psi is a product specification, not a result verified by the independent comparison below. Stan’s lists 500 ml, 125 ml and 60 ml sizes. The product page also supports injecting Rolled Gold through the valve.
Stan’s gives a 700c × 28 mm tire fill recommendation of 35 ml for Rolled Gold, compared with 50 ml for its Original and a 55 ml competitor average. These are Stan’s figures for that stated tire size, not a universal fill standard; follow the instructions for your tire and sealant.
#1 Best Overall
- The world’s first tubeless sealant and the first choice of riders today
- Recommended for all-around use, compatible with all tubeless road, gravel, and mountain bike tires
- Seals punctures up to 6.5mm (¼”)
- Compatible with valve installation using Stan’s Tubeless Sealant Injector
- Remains liquid inside tires for 2-7 months for long-lasting protection)
Muc-Off Road & Gravel: a separate formula rated to 110 psi
Muc-Off Road & Gravel is not the same product as the company’s No Puncture Hassle MTB sealant. Muc-Off states that its road-and-gravel formula works up to 110 psi and seals holes up to 7 mm. Its page describes synthetic latex and sealing particles, and advises checking the liquid level and topping up when needed. The stated 3–6 month duration and 750-mile check guidance are manufacturer recommendations, not a promise that a tire will need service on exactly that schedule.
Best options for mountain biking
Muc-Off No Puncture Hassle: built for downhill, enduro and MTB
Muc-Off explicitly identifies No Puncture Hassle for downhill, enduro and mountain biking, with a stated operating range of 15–80 psi. The company claims it can seal holes and tears up to 7 mm, work from −20°C to +50°C, and last up to 6+ months in temperate climates. It also says the formula can seal porous tires and bead-to-rim gaps and includes UV detection. Treat those as manufacturer specifications and claims; trail conditions, tire construction and sealant level affect what happens in practice.
Rank #2
- Long-lasting latex formula provides superior durability, staying effective for 2-3 times longer than standard sealants to minimize maintenance and downtime. 60-120 days between top-offs.
- Contains advanced nanite particles engineered to rapidly seal punctures up to 1/4" and slices up to 1/2", ensuring reliable performance across a variety of trail and road conditions.
- Developed with eco-friendly, biodegradable ingredients, this sealant offers an environmentally conscious choice without sacrificing sealing performance or safety.
- Optimized for performance in varying temperatures and riding environments, making it an ideal choice for endurance cycling, mountain biking, and gravel adventures.
- Compatible with all major tubeless-ready and UST tire brands and engineered to work across a wide range of rubber compounds. Orange Seal adheres to the tire casing seal punctures to effectively without causing delamination, breakdown, or damage to the rubber, maintaining the integrity and performance of the tire over time.
The product’s MTB positioning makes it a reasonable starting point for riders whose tires face trail debris and larger-volume setups. The published road-oriented test discussed below includes this Muc-Off product, but its findings should not be used as a ranking for MTB use.

Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Stan’s Original: a broad-use alternative
Stan’s says its Original formula is compatible with road, gravel and mountain bike tires, claims sealing up to 6.5 mm, and states that it remains liquid for 2–7 months. It can suit riders who prefer one formula across different bikes, but Stan’s positions Rolled Gold more specifically for high-pressure road and gravel use. Stan’s advises more frequent monitoring in arid conditions.

Vittoria Universal: cross-terrain claims with an older document
Vittoria’s product PDF claims sealing up to 7 mm in MTB tires and up to 5 mm in road tires, with puncture-sealing performance up to 1,000 km. It says the formula contains no natural latex and identifies Vittoria AIR-LINER inserts as a specific compatibility use. The document surfaced as a 2021 publication, so check the current product instructions and compatibility details before buying or installing it: Vittoria Universal Sealant product PDF.
What the independent road test does—and does not—show
Cycling Weekly’s April 7, 2026 road-and-gravel comparison used a 28 mm Schwalbe Pro One tire mounted on a Zipp 303S wheel. In its described test, Silca Ultimate sealed a 7 mm hole at 70 psi with effort. Muc-Off No Puncture Hassle sealed up to 6 mm; its 7 mm seal held only around 30 psi. These are results from that article’s stated setup and procedure, not universal performance limits.

The comparison is useful context for road tires, where a puncture may be small but pressure is high enough that a quick seal matters. It does not report a result for Stan’s Rolled Gold, and it is not an MTB test. Tire casing, sealant dose, temperature, puncture shape and riding conditions can all differ from the test. How to choose and maintain a sealant
- Match the formula to the tire job. For high-pressure road or gravel riding, compare products expressly positioned for that use, such as Rolled Gold and Muc-Off Road & Gravel. For MTB, Muc-Off No Puncture Hassle is explicitly designated for downhill, enduro and MTB; Stan’s Original is a broader-use option.
- Read pressure claims as operating specifications, not proof of a universal seal. A stated maximum pressure or puncture size is a manufacturer claim; the independent road test is a separate, setup-specific source of evidence.
- Use the product’s fill and installation instructions. Stan’s documents valve injection compatibility for Rolled Gold and Original. Do not assume valve injection is suitable for every formula or valve setup; check the chosen product’s directions.
- Inspect the liquid rather than relying on a fixed calendar. Duration varies with product and conditions. Muc-Off gives product-specific intervals and check guidance for its two formulas; Stan’s notes that arid conditions may require more frequent monitoring for Original. Check the tire and top up or refresh sealant as its instructions require.
