The best treadmill for a home gym is the one that fits your room and the way you plan to train—not necessarily the one with the most features. A full-size running machine needs a long, clear area and can be difficult to move; a compact walking treadmill saves space but may not suit regular running. Start by measuring the workout area and delivery route, then compare belt size, speed, incline, safety features, and ongoing costs.
Two models in the current candidate pool have enough published specifications for a meaningful space-and-use comparison: the NordicTrack X22i for running and incline work, and the Mobvoi Home Treadmill for light jogging in tighter quarters. Other models below are identified as candidates by Live Science’s 2026 roundup, but their current specifications and terms need confirmation before purchase.
How to choose a treadmill that earns its space
Decide first whether the machine is mainly for walking, jogging, regular running, incline training, or instructor-led classes. NordicTrack’s April 20, 2026 buying guide recommends considering who will use the treadmill, the available space, and whether guided workouts matter, alongside motor power, belt size, incline range, cushioning, and user-weight capacity. What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Measure the workout position. Record the open footprint, ceiling height, and the path through doors and hallways. A machine that fits its storage spot may still be awkward to deliver or use.
- Keep operating clearance separate from storage size. Consumer Reports’ 2026 indexed guidance for foldable treadmills recommends 2–3 feet clear on either side and 6–8 feet behind. This is clearance guidance, not the treadmill’s dimensions; follow the manual for the model you select. Consumer Reports’ indexed foldable-treadmill guidance
- Match the belt to your stride and pace. A short or narrow deck can constrain a longer running stride. Compare belt dimensions with your intended use rather than treating all treadmills as interchangeable.
- Check the actual safety and ownership details. Consumer Reports’ indexed testing description mentions emergency-stop access, safety-key function, and folding security. Live Science advises checking maintenance needs, warranty fine print, and technician access. Consumer Reports’ indexed treadmill-testing description · Live Science’s testing and ownership notes
Six treadmill candidates, matched to different home-gym jobs
Live Science’s roundup, last updated January 5, 2026, describes models it tested in its center or reviewers’ homes and assesses setup, use, design, and display. The categories below are that publication’s opinions, not results from an independent head-to-head test by this site. The available figures are not enough to claim a verified overall ranking or confirm every model’s current US terms.

1. NordicTrack X22i: premium incline and running candidate
Live Science lists the X22i at 81 × 39 × 76 inches, with a 22 × 60-inch belt, 0–12 mph speed, and a listed −5% to 40% incline range. Its long belt and broad incline range are relevant for running and incline-focused training, but its large footprint makes room measurement essential. Live Science also flags size, cost, and paid iFIT content as tradeoffs. The review’s prose and specification list differ on incline range, so verify the current manufacturer specification before relying on that figure. Live Science’s X22i specifications and review
NordicTrack says manual mode works without a subscription and iFIT Pro is optional; Live Science says guided class content on the X22i requires iFIT. Check current plan terms and pricing if instructor-led workouts are part of your decision. NordicTrack’s treadmill buying guide
2. Mobvoi Home Treadmill: compact budget option for light jogging
Live Science lists the Mobvoi at 42 × 49 × 27 inches, with a 16 × 40-inch belt, a top speed of 7.45 mph, and no incline. The compact dimensions and budget category may appeal in a tight home gym, but its shorter belt and modest speed range make it a light-jogging candidate rather than a like-for-like alternative to a full-size running treadmill. 4. ProForm Pro 9000: incline-training candidate
Live Science names the ProForm Pro 9000 in its incline category and gives a quick-list maximum of 12% incline and speed of 22 km/h. Those figures are useful starting points, not a substitute for checking the exact current model: verify that it is available under the same name and that its present specifications suit your training. Live Science’s 2026 treadmill roundup
5. Echelon Stride: small-space folding candidate
Live Science categorizes the Echelon Stride as a small-space option. Folding can reduce the storage length, but it does not remove the need for workout clearance or solve delivery and moving challenges. Its detailed passage reports a weight of 40.8 lb, top speed of up to 4 mph, a narrow and short deck, and no handrail. Account for the room, delivery, and ongoing ownership
A treadmill’s listed length and width tell only part of the space story. Check its height, weight, wheels or moving aids, folded dimensions if applicable, and whether the delivery route can accommodate it. Tom’s Guide’s space considerations are a useful reminder to account for moving the machine as well as placing it. Tom’s Guide on treadmill space
Before ordering, compare the complete ownership terms for the exact model and seller: warranty coverage, service availability, assembly and delivery, return conditions, and any paid workout platform. The available coverage does not establish current model-by-model US prices or warranty and delivery terms, so use the manufacturer and seller listings for those details. For subscription-dependent training, confirm whether manual operation remains available without a plan and which classes require one.
Quick Recap
