There is no single best tire for every Subaru Outback. Start with the tire size and specifications on your vehicle’s driver-side door-pillar label, then choose a tire category that suits your climate and driving. Michelin CrossClimate2 and Bridgestone WeatherPeak are candidates to compare—not evidence-based universal winners.
Start with the tire specifications for your Outback
Fitment depends on the Outback’s model year, trim, wheel package, and market. Check the tire pressure label on the driver-side door pillar and consult the owner’s manual. Before buying, confirm that the tire matches the vehicle’s required size, load rating, and speed rating.
For context, Subaru Canada’s 2026 Outback specifications list 225/65 R17, 225/60 R18, and 225/55 R19 across the lineup. These are examples for that Canadian model year, not a fitment list for every Outback or market. Subaru’s 2026 specifications and 2025 Outback owner’s manual are useful references, but the label on your own vehicle is the essential check.
Choose for the roads and weather you actually drive
Compare tires on wet-road traction and braking, snow and ice suitability, dry handling, highway noise and comfort, treadwear coverage, price, and availability in your exact size. A tire that suits frequent winter driving may involve different trade-offs from one chosen mainly for quiet highway commuting. The sources available here do not establish a complete independent comparison of these factors for the named tires, so treat the products below as starting points to investigate.

- Frequent snow or ice: Prioritize a tire with winter capability appropriate to your local conditions. Do not assume that an all-weather label alone settles whether a tire is right for severe winter use; check the tire’s specifications and relevant winter markings.
- Mostly wet or dry roads: Look for evidence relevant to the conditions you encounter, and distinguish independent testing from a manufacturer’s own comparisons.
- Long highway drives: Include noise, comfort, expected treadwear, and the warranty terms in your decision alongside traction.
Compare the named candidates without treating claims as a verdict
| Tire | What the cited information establishes | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Michelin CrossClimate2 | Michelin’s U.S. Outback guide includes model years such as 2024, 2025, and 2026 and provides size and pressure tables. Its table spans multiple model generations; it does not mean every listed size fits one vehicle. | Match the guide to your year and configuration, then confirm the placard size and the tire’s load and speed ratings. Michelin’s Outback guide is a starting point. |
| Bridgestone WeatherPeak | Bridgestone advertises a 70,000-mile limited mileage warranty, subject to conditions. It also says WeatherPeak achieved 5% better wet acceleration than Michelin CrossClimate2 in Bridgestone’s internal testing. The product page does not provide independent confirmation of that comparison. | Check current warranty terms, exact-size availability, and whether the tire suits your climate. Treat the wet-acceleration result as Bridgestone’s manufacturer-test claim, not an independent finding or proof that the tire is safer overall. Bridgestone WeatherPeak details. |
Neither cited product source establishes a single best tire for all Outbacks or an independent Outback-specific safety ranking. A mileage warranty is coverage under stated conditions, not a promise that a tire will last for that distance.

Subaru’s 2025 Outback manual says: “Check the tire pressures when the tires are cold. Use a pressure gauge to adjust the tire pressures to the values shown on the tire inflation pressure label.” The manual identifies the label as being on the driver-side door pillar. Use the pressure for your vehicle rather than copying a number from another model year, trim, market, or tire setup.

Use a practical buying checklist
- Read the tire label and owner’s manual for the specifications applicable to your Outback.
- Decide how often you drive in snow or ice, and weigh that against wet-road performance, dry handling, highway comfort, and treadwear priorities.
- Compare products in the required size, checking load and speed ratings as well as warranty conditions and local availability.
- Evaluate performance claims by their source and method. Manufacturer testing is not the same as independent comparative testing.
- After installation, use a pressure gauge to set cold tire pressure to the vehicle’s label specification.
