If a PlayStation Plus game hooked you with its story, choose your next game by the part you liked most: Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut for historical open-world action, God of War Ragnarök for mythic character drama, or Horizon Forbidden West for science-fiction exploration. For a darker survival story, try The Last of Us Part II; for a more adventure-forward plot, choose Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. These are taste-based matches to PlayStation’s descriptions, not a measured ranking. Check your local PlayStation Plus catalog before counting on access, since availability can vary by plan, market, and time.
Choose by the story experience you want
| Game | Best fit | What to expect | Continuity note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut | Historical open-world action and stealth | PlayStation describes an open-world action adventure for PS4 and PS5 built around katana and bow combat, stealth tactics, and an additional Iki Island story. The expansive structure may suit players who enjoy exploring between story moments more than those looking for a tightly linear campaign. | The official description centers Jin Sakai’s adventure; the cited page does not frame it as a sequel. |
| God of War Ragnarök | Character-led mythic action | Its central conflict puts Kratos between protecting his son and defending the Nine Realms. | It continues the 2018 God of War story. PlayStation provides a recap, but playing the earlier game first is a sensible choice if you want the relationship and events to land with full context. |
| Horizon Forbidden West | Science-fiction worldbuilding and exploration | Aloy investigates threats to a dying world in a far-future setting, exploring and fighting machines; PlayStation lists PS4 and PS5 versions. | It follows Horizon Zero Dawn, which provides important story context. |
| The Last of Us Part II | Dark, emotionally intense survival drama | PlayStation describes an action-survival sequel focused on the physical and emotional repercussions of Ellie’s actions. | It is a sequel, and its official framing signals a harrowing tone. Consider whether bleak material is what you want next. |
| Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End | Cinematic treasure-hunt adventure | Nathan Drake’s presumed-dead brother returns asking for help, drawing Drake into a new adventure. | It is the fourth main Uncharted entry. Earlier games add character context, although this installment’s premise is clear on its own. |
How to pick your next game
If you want to roam and choose your own pace
Start with Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut. Its open-world format pairs exploration with sword fighting, archery, and stealth. If you prefer a more focused, cinematic adventure, Uncharted 4 is the more natural fit.
If the characters mattered more than the setting
Choose God of War Ragnarök for a father-and-son story framed by mythic stakes. It is the strongest match here if you want the relationship at the center of the conflict, but its connection to the 2018 game makes that earlier chapter worth playing first.

Horizon Forbidden West combines a far-future mystery with exploration and tactical fights against machines. Its predecessor, Horizon Zero Dawn, is the better starting point if you want the story context before Aloy’s next chapter.

PlayStation’s service overview lists the Game Catalog as an Extra and Premium benefit; Essential includes Monthly Games and other benefits, but the overview does not list the Game Catalog as an Essential benefit. The PlayStation Plus overview and the official catalog finder are the right places to check your market’s current selection. The US catalog finder showed 642 games on October 7, 2026; that is a dated snapshot, not a fixed catalog size.

Sony notes that catalog titles require the corresponding membership and that some can have an end date for removal. A title shown in a promotional or catalog page is not guaranteed to be available to every subscriber or in every region. Downloading catalog games requires the correct plan. For streaming, Sony’s US support page says a broadband connection of at least 5 Mbps is required; streaming also depends on the title, plan, and market.
