If you want a steel vessel for carrying and serving finished homebrew, look for a stainless steel beer growler. The products covered here are growlers—not documented fermentation vessels or bottle-conditioning bottles. How to choose a growler for serving homebrew
- Capacity: Match the size to how much beer you expect to transport and serve. The cited examples list 650 ml and 1200 ml from Haers and 64 ounces from Webber Elite; these are product examples, not standard sizes or a market-wide range.
- Closure and seal: Compare the lid style and whether the seal can be removed for cleaning or replacement. Haers lists a bounce lid; Webber Elite lists a flip top and removable, replaceable silicone seal.
- Insulation: Check whether the vessel is insulated if cold retention matters. Haers and Webber Elite describe double-wall construction; Orion describes vacuum insulation. These are maker specifications or claims, not independent comparative results.
- Material: Check the maker’s stated steel grade and whether the interior and exterior differ. Haers specifies 316 inside and 304 outside; Webber Elite specifies 304 (18/8).
- Cleaning access: A wide opening can make it easier to inspect and clean a vessel, and removable seals can be cleaned separately. Confirm the actual opening and cleaning instructions for the model you are considering.
Cleaning and light exposure

A growler’s ability to hold carbonated beer during transport does not, by itself, show that it can safely contain pressure generated during bottle conditioning. The cited steel growler pages do not document pressure ratings for that use. For homebrew bottling, use a vessel specifically intended for conditioning and follow its maker’s directions. A homebrew retailer lists conventional brown glass and PET bottles in bottling formats, but that category-level information does not establish the pressure rating of a particular bottle: Die Hausbrauerei’s bottling bottles.
