There is no single best soundbar for 2026. The expert guides we checked, dated between July and September 2026, rank different models depending on room size, budget, whether you want Dolby Atmos height sound, and how many sources you connect. For most buyers, the practical choice comes down to four questions: how much space you have, how big a sound system you want, whether you need a subwoofer and rear speakers, and whether you game and need 4K/120Hz passthrough.
Shoppers often phrase the question as a single line, such as “best soundbar in 2026 for movies + Dolby Atmos?” That is a common style of wording rather than a survey result, but it is a useful way to start. Below, each recommendation is attributed to the outlet that made it, with the trade-offs that outlet reported. Pages were accessed on October 7, 2026, and rankings and availability can change.
Start with your room and your sources
Before comparing models, settle three things. The answers point toward a different category of product in each case.
- Room size and TV stand. A compact bar that is under 26 inches wide, such as the Sonos Beam (Gen 2), suits a small room or a narrow TV stand. A large living room with a long sofa can take a wider bar and separate speakers.
- Height sound. If you want Dolby Atmos, look for a bar or package with physical up-firing drivers. Atmos support on a label does not guarantee a noticeable overhead effect, because the hardware layout and placement matter as much as the format.
- Gaming and video sources. If you run a current console or a high-refresh PC, check the HDMI specification of each model and the ports on your TV before you buy. Not every HDMI port on a TV supports the same video features, so confirm which port carries eARC and what your console needs.
Shortlist and attribution
The table summarises the specifications the reviewers describe. Where a source did not state a value, the cell says so rather than filling it in.
#1 Best Overall
- Simplified 5.1ch Dolby Atmos Setup: Enjoy immersive 4D sound with real Dolby Atmos and 5.1-channel audio. Five built-in speakers, including two side-firing drivers, create wide surround without rear speakers. Precision DSP ensures <0.5 ms latency for smooth, theater-like sound. Setup takes less than 1 minute.
- Voice Clarity Enhancement: VoiceMX technology uses advanced DSP algorithms to isolate and enhance vocal frequencies in real time. Dialogue remains crisp and easy to follow by separating speech from background effects and music, even at low volumes or during intense scenes.
- 300W Output with 6-Driver System: Featuring five precision-tuned full-range drivers and a dedicated wired wooden subwoofer, the system delivers up to 300W of peak power for bold, room-filling sound. With a frequency response of 45 Hz–18 kHz and a maximum SPL of 99 dB, it reproduces everything from subtle nuances to explosive cinematic effects.
- 18 mm High-Excursion Driver: Powered by BassMX technology, the wired wooden subwoofer features a 18 mm high-excursion driver, a 5.3L tuned cabinet, and a high-density magnetic circuit. This design delivers deeper, tighter bass with greater air displacement and enhanced low-frequency performance—bringing more realism to every scene.
- HDMI eARC for True Dolby Atmos: HDMI eARC supports up to 37 Mbps of bandwidth, unlocking the full potential of lossless Dolby Atmos 5.1-channel audio. Compared to standard ARC, eARC delivers richer surround effects and greater detail. CEC integration allows the TV and soundbar to work together with unified control.

The picks, one by one
Premium Dolby Atmos: Samsung HW-Q990F
RTINGS calls the Samsung HW-Q990F its best Dolby Atmos soundbar. It is an 11.1.4 package with discrete satellites and four up-firing drivers, and RTINGS describes its dialogue as clear and its bass as substantial. In RTINGS’ assessment, it offers better all-round value than the newer HW-Q990H, though the H model adds a feature called Sound Elevation. The older HW-Q990D may cost less when it is available, but RTINGS notes that its subwoofer is more prone to rattling than the sealed subwoofer on the Q990F. This is the pick for a large room and a buyer who wants a full discrete system. For details, see RTINGS’ Dolby Atmos soundbar guide.

Mid-range flexible surrounds: JBL Bar 1000MK2
RTINGS picks the JBL Bar 1000MK2 as its mid-range choice and as its mid-range Atmos option. The 7.1.4 system includes a 10-inch subwoofer and room correction, and its surrounds are battery-powered and detachable, which helps where a wall outlet is inconvenient. What Hi-Fi? describes the surrounds as attachable to the bar or usable as rear speakers or a wireless speaker. The main trade-off is video: HDMI inputs top out at 4K/60Hz rather than 4K/120Hz passthrough, and RTINGS reports higher audio latency across most connections. If you game at high refresh rates, this is the model to weigh most carefully. Sources: RTINGS’ best soundbars guide and RTINGS’ Dolby Atmos guide.

Budget Atmos: Hisense AX5140Q
RTINGS includes the Hisense AX5140Q in its budget Atmos slot. It has a 5.1.4 layout with dedicated satellites and four up-firing drivers, and RTINGS describes its sound as balanced with clear dialogue. The limit is connectivity: beyond Bluetooth, it has no Wi-Fi and no services such as Spotify Connect. Confirm the exact model suffix and regional availability before buying, because naming varies by market. Sources: RTINGS’ best soundbars guide and RTINGS’ Dolby Atmos guide.

Compact: Sonos Beam (Gen 2)
RTINGS recommends the Sonos Beam (Gen 2) for limited space. It is under 26 inches wide and supports Dolby Atmos, and you can add a subwoofer and satellites later. It is a compact choice, not a replacement for a large discrete multi-speaker package, so it suits a bedroom, a small apartment, or a narrow TV stand where footprint matters more than maximum output. Sources: RTINGS’ best soundbars guide and RTINGS’ all-in-one guide.
All-in-one with an upgrade path: Klipsch Flexus Core 300
RTINGS describes the Klipsch Flexus Core 300 as a 5.1.2 single-bar system with balanced default sound, Dolby Atmos, and 4K/120Hz passthrough. Its integrated subwoofer produces less low-end output than a dedicated subwoofer, so buyers who want strong bass should expect that limit. The system can be expanded with an optional subwoofer and surround speakers, which makes it a reasonable middle path if you want to start simple and add speakers later. - 5.1.2ch Surround Sound System: A 5.1.2-channel system featuring up-firing speakers, surround sound, and a powerful subwoofer creates lifelike, multidimensional audio. Feel the Sky Around You—raindrops falling from above, helicopters circling overhead, thunder rumbling in all directions. Sound isn’t just around you, it engulfs you, as if the ceiling disappeared. This is Dolby Atmos: not just heard, but felt.
- Up-Firing Drivers with Neodymium Core: The up-firing channels use neodymium internal magnets and 18-core large voice coils to enhance height precision and vertical throw. This aerospace-grade configuration ensures better high-frequency dynamics, delivering focused and elevated sound images that unlock the true potential of Dolby Atmos.
- 360° SurroundX Audio: SurroundX technology combines two rear surround speakers and dual up-firing Atmos drivers to build a true 360° sound field. Powered by intelligent spatial algorithms, the system precisely positions audio around and above you—enhancing Dolby Atmos with a more natural, three-dimensional soundstage. Note: Not compatible with DTS.
- Lossless Audio Transmission: Unlock full Dolby Atmos performance with HDMI eARC, supporting up to 37Mbps bandwidth for lossless 5.1.2-channel audio. Compared to regular ARC, eARC delivers richer detail and better surround effects with no compression. With CEC, your TV and soundbar work as one—power, volume, and input sync automatically for effortless control.
- Advanced App Control: Customize every detail of your audio experience with the Ultimea App. Fine-tune your surround sound with 13-step level adjustment (-6 to +6), optimize with a 10-band graphic EQ, and choose from 121 preset sound settings. Enjoy seamless OTA updates that unlock new features and keep your system performing at its peak.
How the other editorial lists differ
Other outlets rank differently, and their criteria are their own. Tom’s Guide names the Sonos Arc Ultra as its best overall pick in its 2026 roundup, and it discusses setup, dialogue, and room placement for the Samsung QS750F. What Hi-Fi?’s July 2026 Dolby Atmos guide includes the Sonos Arc Ultra, JBL Bar 1000MK2, Sonos Beam (Gen 2), Sony Bravia Theatre Bar 6, and Samsung HW-Q990F, and it states that every listed product was reviewed and rated by its team and earned at least four stars. What Hi-Fi? also writes: “We are yet to test a model that matches a multi-speaker setup, but many soundbars out there can still deliver an immersive yet detailed audio performance.” Read the full comparisons at What Hi-Fi?’s Dolby Atmos roundup, What Hi-Fi?’s best soundbars guide, and Tom’s Guide’s best soundbars roundup.
RTINGS reports that it has tested over 255 soundbars. That count is RTINGS’ own figure, stated in its all-in-one guide updated September 23, 2026, and it is not an independent industry statistic.

Before you buy
Prices and stock change frequently, and the sources we checked do not provide a complete, like-for-like price comparison. Check the retailer listing for the exact regional model, confirm current stock, and verify the HDMI and eARC arrangement on your TV and console. Compare the specific suffix of each model, because a suffix can change the connectivity or regional support. Finally, the shopping question itself is worth a second look: a Reddit thread from February 15, 2026 asking for the best soundbar for movies with Dolby Atmos shows how buyers phrase the question, but it is not evidence of how many people ask it. The thread is at r/Soundbars.
