For clearer dialogue on a Sonos Beam (Gen 2), start with Speech Enhancement while TV audio is playing. Use Night Sound for quieter, late-night viewing, then try Trueplay room tuning and small EQ adjustments if needed. Sonos does not publish a universal numeric EQ preset for dialogue on this model, so make changes by ear rather than relying on a supposed ideal slider position.
Start with Speech Enhancement for clearer dialogue
Speech Enhancement is the first setting to try when voices are hard to follow. Sonos says it boosts frequencies associated with the human voice. Turn on the TV and confirm its audio is playing through the Beam; then open the Sonos app, go to the System view, select the Beam to open Now Playing, and toggle Speech Enhancement.
Sonos documents Low, Medium, High, and Max levels for Arc Ultra only. Do not look for those level choices on Beam (Gen 2); the relevant Beam control is the Speech Enhancement toggle. See Sonos’s Speech Enhancement instructions.

Use Night Sound when listening quietly
For late-night or low-volume TV, turn on Night Sound from the Beam’s Now Playing view while TV audio is playing. It reduces the intensity of loud sounds and raises quieter sounds, which can help dialogue remain audible without increasing the overall volume. Sonos describes the feature in its Night Sound guidance.

- Control with the Sonos app, your TV remote, Apple AirPlay 2, and your voice.
- Effortless setup with only two cables and smart Trueplay tuning.
Night Sound is intended for quieter listening. If you want louder effects to retain their full impact, switch it off for that session.
Try Trueplay to account for your room
Trueplay measures how sound reflects from walls, furnishings, and other surfaces, then fine-tunes the speaker. Room tuning can be useful when the Beam sounds different in its actual position than expected. Sonos recommends keeping the room as quiet as possible, covering as much of it as you can, moving the iOS device smoothly, and leaving the speaker volume unchanged while the tuning sound plays. Follow the app’s prompts; see Sonos’s Trueplay tuning instructions.

Standard Trueplay requires an eligible iOS or iPadOS device; Sonos does not list Android devices as compatible. Beam (Gen 2) is not among the models currently listed for Quick Tuning, so owners generally need a supported Apple device for standard tuning. Check Sonos’s current Trueplay device and product compatibility list before tuning, since compatibility can change.

Adjust EQ in small steps
In the Sonos app, open the Beam’s Sound > EQ controls. Sonos provides bass, treble, and Loudness: bass adjusts lower-frequency sounds, treble adjusts higher-frequency sounds such as vocals, and Loudness boosts certain frequencies during low-volume listening. The controls are described in Sonos’s EQ guidance.
There is no Sonos-published numeric Beam (Gen 2) EQ position that guarantees clearer dialogue. For a practical comparison, choose a familiar scene with speech, change one control by a small amount, and replay the same passage at a similar volume. Keep the change only if it improves intelligibility without making voices harsh or the overall sound less balanced. This is a listening method, not an official preset or a measured test result.

If the TV sound or settings are unavailable
- Complete setup in the Sonos app. Beam (Gen 2) must be set up with the Sonos app before it can play TV audio. It is not compatible with the Sonos S1 Controller app.
- Check the TV connection. Sonos setup instructions guide you through connecting the Beam with the included HDMI cable or, where applicable, the optical adapter. Use the app’s setup flow for your connection.
- Check the connection if voice commands do not control TV power. Sonos says TV power voice commands require HDMI-ARC and HDMI-CEC; they do not work through the optical adapter.
See Sonos’s Beam setup instructions if you need to revisit setup or connection steps.

A simple order for choosing settings
- Play TV audio and enable Speech Enhancement from the Beam’s Now Playing view.
- If you are watching at low volume, enable Night Sound and decide whether its reduced loud peaks suit the scene.
- If the sound still does not suit the room, run Trueplay with a supported iOS or iPadOS device.
- Adjust bass, treble, or Loudness one at a time in Sound > EQ, comparing the same dialogue passage at a similar volume.
These features address different needs: Speech Enhancement targets voice audibility, Night Sound suits quiet listening, Trueplay accounts for the room, and EQ lets you tailor the tonal balance. No single combination is established as best for every room, program, and listener.
