There is not enough verified, current U.S. pricing and availability here to honestly rank ten new unlocked phones under $1,000. The strongest starting points are Apple’s iPhone 17, 17e and 16; Google’s Pixel 10a; and Samsung’s Galaxy S25 FE. The Pixel 10 Pro and Galaxy S26 belong on the list only if their unlocked prices are below the ceiling when you buy. This guide identifies what the available evidence supports and how to check the rest without mistaking a carrier promotion for an unlocked price.
What counts as under $1,000?
For this U.S. shopping guide, the qualifying price is the price of a new, unlocked phone before sales tax. A deal that requires a trade-in, a new line, financing, or carrier bill credits does not establish that the phone itself is available below $1,000 on those terms. This matches the price definition used in iTechGuides’ August 18, 2026 comparison: Best Phones Under $1000.
Prices and stock can change, and an advertised starting price may refer to a particular storage configuration or purchase route. Confirm the exact model, storage, seller, unlocked status, and checkout total before treating a phone as eligible.
Best-supported phones to consider
These are supported candidates, not a verified top-ten ranking. The available price evidence is strongest for the Apple models; other candidates need a live price or availability check before they can be called qualifying buys.

| Phone | Why consider it | Price and eligibility evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Apple iPhone 17 | A current iPhone option for shoppers already using Apple devices and services. | Apple lists it from $899. Its U.S. shop page shows a 256GB configuration at $929 with “connect to any carrier later.” Verify that the unlocked configuration and price remain available at checkout. U.S.-purchased iPhone 17 models use eSIM rather than a physical SIM tray. Apple iPhone 17 |
| Apple iPhone 17e | A lower-cost route into iOS. | Apple lists it from $699. Check the specific configuration and unlocked purchase terms. Apple iPhone 17e |
| Apple iPhone 16 | A previous-generation iPhone option if you find the configuration you want new and unlocked. | Apple lists it from $799, but prior-generation stock and configurations can vary. Check current availability and terms. Apple iPhone 16 |
| Google Pixel 10a | A value-oriented Android candidate with a documented update commitment and a useful camera setup. | TechRadar reports 128GB and 256GB options, a 5,100mAh battery, 48MP main and 13MP ultrawide rear cameras, and seven years of OS and security updates. The sources available for this guide do not establish an exact current price, so verify a new, unlocked listing before counting it under $1,000. TechRadar Pixel 10a review |
| Samsung Galaxy S25 FE | A lower-priced Samsung candidate for people who value a large display, build, battery, fast charging, and software support. | iTechGuides describes observed pricing around $600–$700, not a guaranteed live quote. Recheck the unlocked price and configuration. Its guide cautions that this model is less suited to demanding gaming and serious zoom photography. iTechGuides price comparison |
| Google Pixel 10 Pro | A possible camera-focused pick if its price fits your budget. | iTechGuides describes an observed 128GB unlocked price of about $915–$1,000, a range that reaches the budget ceiling and is not an official live quote. Google confirms a 6.3-inch display, but the available Google Store extract does not establish a current price. Include it only if you verify an unlocked price below $1,000. Google Pixel 10 Pro |
| Samsung Galaxy S26 | A compact Samsung flagship candidate. | Eligibility depends on a current unlocked price below $1,000; the available comparison explicitly says to verify rather than assume it qualifies. iTechGuides price comparison |
How to choose among them
Start with the devices you already own
If your watch, tablet, computer, messaging habits, or purchased apps are tied to one platform, staying with that platform may matter more than a small specification advantage. Consider the practical cost and inconvenience of moving ecosystems, not just the phone’s sticker price.
Match the camera to what you photograph
Think about everyday snapshots, low-light scenes, moving subjects, video, ultrawide framing, and zoom. A megapixel count alone does not establish image quality, and a phone with a strong main camera may not be the right choice if you regularly need optical zoom.

Compare endurance using the test method
Battery capacity and a reviewer’s runtime test are different measurements. Tom’s Guide reports 15 hours, 16 minutes for the Pixel 10a in its 2026 battery test; that is a result from that publication’s test, not a promise of every owner’s daily runtime. TechRadar reports almost 22 hours for the OnePlus 15 in its constant-use test, but U.S. availability is disputed, so the result does not make it a straightforward U.S. recommendation. Check update support for the exact model
Do not assume a support term applies across every phone from a manufacturer. For the Pixel 10a, TechRadar reports seven years of OS and security updates. Confirm the applicable commitment for any other model you are considering rather than extrapolating from a different phone in the same brand.

Choose size and performance for your use
Compare display size, storage, and performance against your own needs: one-handed use, streaming, gaming, multitasking, and how long you plan to keep the phone. The available evidence does not establish a complete, like-for-like specification comparison for every candidate, so check the exact model’s official specifications before deciding.

OnePlus 15: verify U.S. availability and warranty
iTechGuides gives an approximate $899 starting price and highlights performance and battery life. TechRadar, however, says OnePlus has pulled out of the U.S. and leaves the phone out of its current U.S. picks. Because the sources conflict on practical U.S. availability, do not treat it as a dependable U.S. buy unless you confirm a new-device U.S. sale and a warranty that applies to you. iTechGuides price comparison TechRadar U.S. phone guide

Exclude phones above the ordinary-price ceiling
The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is not an under-$1,000 choice at the $1,299 starting price reported by Tom’s Guide. Apple lists the iPhone 18 Pro from $1,199. A carrier promotion may reduce what a particular customer pays over time, but it does not make either phone qualify under the unlocked-price definition used here. A quick pre-purchase check
- Find the exact model and storage configuration you want.
- Confirm that the listing is for a new phone, sold unlocked, and available in the U.S.
- Read the terms for trade-ins, activation, financing, and bill credits; do not count a conditional carrier offer as the unlocked price.
- Check whether the phone supports your carrier and, for the iPhone 17, whether eSIM-only use works with your setup.
- Compare the final pre-tax price, return terms, warranty coverage, and current stock before buying.
