To reduce the chance of burn-in on an OLED gaming monitor, enable its pixel-shift, screen-saver or idle-dimming, and logo-dimming protections where available. Avoid leaving a bright, fixed game HUD or desktop on screen while the monitor is idle, and let the monitor’s own automatic pixel-cleaning routine finish. Exact setting names and maintenance schedules vary by model, so use your monitor’s on-screen display (OSD) or manual—not a universal brightness percentage or cleaning interval.
Settings to enable first
OLED burn-in is associated with displaying static, high-contrast content for a long time. A persistent HUD, taskbar, or other fixed graphic can keep the same areas of the panel illuminated. The following protections address static content or reduce the time it remains visible; they do not guarantee that burn-in cannot occur.
- Pixel Shift or Screen Move: Enable this feature if your monitor offers it. It slightly shifts the displayed image so fixed elements do not stay in precisely the same panel positions. Samsung says Pixel Shift is on by default on the monitors covered by its OLED monitor guidance, but advises checking that it is enabled. ASUS lists Screen Move on the ROG Strix XG27ACDNG. Neither setting name nor default should be assumed for another model.
- Screen saver or idle dimming: Turn it on if available. ASUS says the XG27ACDNG’s Screen Saver lowers brightness when it detects no screen movement and restores brightness when movement returns. For an idle desktop, an operating-system screen-off timer or screen saver can also reduce how long a static image remains on screen; there is no single manufacturer-backed timeout that applies to every setup.
- Logo dimming: Enable Adjust Logo Brightness or Auto Logo Brightness if offered. Samsung says a higher adjustment further reduces logo brightness; ASUS lists automatic logo adjustment on the XG27ACDNG. Stronger dimming may make a logo visibly darker, so choose a level that suits your use.
- Automatic pixel cleaning or refresh: Leave the monitor’s maintenance feature enabled and allow it to complete as directed by the model’s manual or on-screen prompt. These cycles address image retention or panel maintenance; they are not proof against permanent burn-in.
What to do about a persistent game HUD
A fixed HUD is a common example of static content, but the practical response is to reduce its uninterrupted display time rather than assume one specific game setting will prevent burn-in. Use a game’s HUD-opacity, HUD-position, or hide-HUD option if it has one and the change works for you. Take breaks that let the display change, and do not leave the game paused or its menu visible for a long idle period. When stepping away, let the monitor dim, sleep, or turn off.
These are exposure-management steps, not a quantified guarantee: manufacturer guidance describes the protections and maintenance cycles, but does not establish a universal percentage reduction in burn-in risk.

Brightness: lower it only as much as is comfortable
No universal brightness percentage is established for preventing burn-in. Use a comfortable level for the room and task; lowering brightness when acceptable can reduce how intensely the panel is driven, but a specific percentage cannot be presented as a proven safeguard. ASUS’s Uniform Brightness option is described as reducing peak brightness to keep levels consistent, particularly for everyday Windows use—not as a universal burn-in setting.
Should you run pixel cleaning manually?
Usually, follow the monitor’s automatic routine and prompts rather than starting manual cleaning on a schedule borrowed from another brand. The names, triggers, durations, and availability differ across models. A maintenance cycle may temporarily interrupt use, and turning a monitor back on can stop some cycles.

| Manufacturer and covered example | Feature and behavior stated by manufacturer | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung OLED monitors covered by its support page | Screen Optimization becomes eligible after at least four cumulative hours of use, runs after the monitor is turned off, and takes about 10–15 minutes. Samsung says to keep power connected. A separate Pixel Refresh is not available on every model; Samsung says starting it turns the monitor off for more than an hour. | Let Screen Optimization finish after shutdown. Check the exact model before using a separate Pixel Refresh option. |
| ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACDNG | The manual lists Pixel Cleaning and says it takes approximately six minutes, activating automatically when the monitor is turned off. Powering the monitor on stops the process. | Allow the automatic cycle to finish. The ASUS support FAQ also recommends pixel cleaning every four hours in daily use, but that is not a universal schedule and should not override the model’s manual. |
| Dell Alienware AW3423DW and AW3423DWF | Dell says Pixel Refresh takes about seven minutes. It may prompt after four hours of accumulated use and activates automatically in standby after more than four hours. Dell’s support article was modified May 14, 2026. | Follow the prompt or standby behavior for these models; do not apply its timing to other OLED monitors. |
| LG 27GX704A-B | LG’s UK product page calls the feature OLED Care and says it is available through the included remote. The page does not give a universal schedule. | Use the model’s own guidance; the product page does not establish a cleaning interval. |
Cycle duration and thresholds above describe the named manufacturer features only. They are not burn-in-risk statistics or estimates of panel lifespan.
Where to find the controls
There is no common OSD path across brands, and the available controls depend on the exact model. Open the monitor’s OSD and look for sections named OLED Care, Panel Care, Screen Protection, or similar, then verify the names and defaults in the manual. For example, the ASUS XG27ACDNG manual lists Screen Saver, Pixel Cleaning, Pixel Cleaning Reminder, Screen Move, Auto Logo Brightness, and OLED Usage Info. Samsung’s guidance names Pixel Shift, Adjust Logo Brightness, Screen Optimization, and optional Pixel Refresh. These are examples, not instructions to expect identical menus on another monitor.

Warranty and limits
ASUS says disabling OLED Care functions may affect warranty coverage. That warning is ASUS-specific; check the warranty terms for your exact monitor and region before turning off protection features. Manufacturer guidance supports using the available protections and following maintenance instructions, but it does not quantify how much these settings reduce risk or promise that burn-in will not happen.
