To get more unplugged play from a Lenovo Legion Go S, start by selecting a lower-power profile, cap the game at a frame rate it can sustain, and reduce resolution or graphics detail if needed. Then lower screen brightness and consider a lower refresh rate. Each change can trade performance, smoothness, or image quality for runtime; the biggest gains depend on the game, hardware configuration, operating system, and firmware.
Which settings should you change first?
Work through these changes one at a time. That makes it easier to tell whether a runtime gain is worth the effect on playability.
- Choose an efficiency-oriented profile. On the Windows model, open Legion Space and select an available Efficiency or Power-saving profile in its performance controls. On SteamOS, open the Steam performance settings and reduce the thermal power limit (TDP). Labels and menu layouts can vary by software version. If a game becomes too slow, move back toward a higher-power profile.
- Set a frame-rate cap. Use the game’s own frame-rate setting or the frame-rate limit in SteamOS performance settings. Pick a target the game can maintain and that still feels responsive to you. There is no single best cap for every game; a lower target can reduce unnecessary rendering, but may make motion less smooth or controls feel less immediate.
- Reduce the game’s rendering workload. Lower resolution, graphics detail, or both in demanding games. The 8-inch display makes it possible to try a resolution below native, but the loss of sharpness and detail varies by game and is a matter of preference.
- Lower screen brightness. Set it to the lowest level that remains comfortable in your environment. Tom’s Hardware’s reviewer said they played at 50% brightness to extend sessions; that is one reviewer’s setting, not a universal target.
- Try a lower refresh rate. If your game is capped below the display’s maximum refresh rate, compare a lower display setting for comfort and runtime. Lenovo lists a 48–120Hz display for the 8APU1 reference model and documents refresh-rate control in Legion Space for Windows. Do not assume every Go S variant or operating system has the same available menu.
- Compare results after each adjustment. Replay the same game area or repeat the same activity, changing one setting at a time. Battery estimates and actual runtime depend heavily on workload, so your own comparison is more useful than treating a result from another game as a promise.
Where to find the controls
Windows model
Lenovo’s Windows user-guide information points to Settings > System > Power & battery for Windows power modes and Legion Space’s Display section for refresh-rate control. For game performance, use the performance controls in Legion Space; Tom’s Hardware describes Performance, Efficiency, and custom profiles on its reviewed unit. Lenovo menus can change between software builds, so the exact labels may differ.
Recommended Free Tools
SteamOS model
Steam’s performance settings include controls for frame-rate limit, refresh rate, thermal power limit (TDP), brightness, and volume. Use the TDP control to reduce the system’s power limit, then adjust the other settings according to the game and the trade-offs you are willing to accept.

What battery life can you expect?
Published results vary because they involve different Go S configurations, operating systems, games, settings, and test methods. Use them as examples of workload differences, not as directly comparable predictions for your own device.
| Source and setup | Reported result | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Tom’s Hardware: PCMark 10 Gaming suite | 1 hour 42 minutes | A benchmark result from the reviewer’s unit; it is not a guarantee for a particular game. |
| Tom’s Hardware: Burnout Paradise Remastered at 1280×800, 60Hz, Performance profile | About 1 hour 45 minutes | In that reviewer’s session, switching to Power-saving let the game run a little over two hours. |
| TechRadar: SteamOS model, Balanced settings | About 2 hours 30 minutes of gameplay | A separate review observation with a different configuration and test setup. |
| Tom’s Guide: SteamOS model playing Doom: The Dark Ages at 1200p and the full 30W performance setting | Low-battery warning after roughly 90 minutes | An example of how a demanding game at a high power setting can drain the battery quickly. |
| Lenovo PSREF, 2026, model 8APU1 reference: local 1080p video playback at 150 nits | Up to 14.5 hours | A maximum specification claim for video playback, not a gaming result. Lenovo says actual battery life varies with configuration and usage, software, wireless functionality, power-management settings, screen brightness, and battery aging. |
Lenovo’s cited 14.5-hour figure applies to the 8APU1 reference and local video playback under the stated conditions; it should not be read as the expected runtime for gaming or as a specification for every Legion Go S variant.

When charging is available
A compatible USB-C Power Delivery charger can recharge the device when you have access to an outlet, but it does not extend unplugged gaming time. Lenovo lists 65W USB-C PD 3.0 adapter options and notes that regional offerings vary. Check the adapter’s compatibility and regional availability before choosing one.
