For most readers choosing a Samsung smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch8 is the best starting point. It comes in a 40 mm and a 44 mm case. The 40 mm version suits readers who want a smaller, lighter watch, and the 44 mm version suits readers who want a larger display and don’t mind the extra weight. Samsung presents both sizes as general Galaxy Watch models, not as women’s watches, so the decision should rest on wrist fit, phone compatibility, features, and price rather than on gender.
Start with the Galaxy Watch8 and pick a case size
The Galaxy Watch8 product page on Samsung US describes the model’s health, fitness, customization, and Gemini features. Feature availability can depend on your phone, the Samsung Health app, your Samsung account, and your region, so treat the page as a description of the watch rather than a guarantee for your particular setup.
Samsung’s comparison figures below come from its Ireland comparison page, last updated August 12, 2026. They are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements, and they are the only weights the cited Samsung pages give for these models.

Choosing between the 40 mm and 44 mm Galaxy Watch8
Wrist fit
Case size matters more than the model name. If you have a slim wrist, the 40 mm case is the safer choice, because a 44 mm case can overhang the wrist and look oversized. Test the fit on a watch you already wear comfortably: compare the width of the case with your wrist, and check whether the band still closes comfortably at the holes you normally use. The question “Is the Galaxy Watch8 too big for a small wrist?” usually has the same answer: the 40 mm case is the one to try first.

Weight
The Watch8 40 mm and 44 mm differ by 4 g on Samsung’s figures, which is noticeable over a full day but not dramatic. The generational gap is smaller still: the Watch8 40 mm is 1.2 g heavier than the Watch7 40 mm, and the 44 mm models differ by 0.2 g. Weight alone is therefore not a reason to choose one generation over the other.
Display and features
The 44 mm case is the choice for readers who put screen size first. The Samsung pages cited here do not state display dimensions for each case size, so if screen size will decide your purchase, check the specifications on the product page before you buy.

Finish and band options
Available colors and finishes differ by market and change over time. Check the color options on the listing you are buying from, because the finish you want may be sold in only one case size or in only some regions.

The Galaxy Watch7 page on Samsung US lists the same two case sizes. It is worth comparing only if its current retail price is meaningfully lower than the Watch8, or if its finish is the one you want. The cited Samsung sources do not establish current Watch7 pricing, so check live listings before assuming it is a bargain. What Samsung claims for the Galaxy Watch8
Samsung’s Galaxy Watch8 product page states: “Galaxy Watch8 is the world’s first smartwatch with Gemini built-in.” This is Samsung’s own product claim. It has not been independently verified as a comparison across the smartwatch category, so read it as the manufacturer’s position rather than an established ranking. The same page covers health, fitness, and customization features; whether each one works for you depends on the phone and app setup described in the next section.
Will a Galaxy Watch work with an iPhone?
No, not the Galaxy Watch8. Samsung’s guide on devices and operating systems that work with Samsung Galaxy Watch, updated September 9, 2026, lists the following for Watch8:

Galaxy Watch8 bands use a new dedicated attachment, and they are not compatible with bands from earlier released Galaxy Watch models. Watch8 and Watch8 Classic bands are compatible with each other. Samsung’s support article on changing the band on a Samsung Galaxy smart watch covers the removal and fitting steps.

Before you buy a replacement band:
- Confirm that the listing explicitly names Galaxy Watch8 or Watch8 Classic compatibility.
- Do not reuse or buy a band made for Galaxy Watch7 or an earlier model, because the attachment will not match.
- Bands from the Watch8 and Watch8 Classic pair can be swapped between those two watches.
- Check that the band is sold in the size and finish you want for your case.
The model you choose and the band you buy should be checked together, so the final watch fits, looks as you want, and works with your phone.
