Queen’s Domain is another recent option, with a reported launch across PC and current-generation consoles in September 2026. These picks are based on published game descriptions and launch reporting, not hands-on testing.

Choose by the kind of exploration you want

Lunacid: connected dungeon spaces and hidden discoveries

Lunacid is the clearest match if what you want is a first-person dungeon crawler rather than a sprawling open-world RPG. Its Steam description places the adventure in the Great Well and emphasizes exploration through connected spaces, secret areas, hidden magic, and esoteric puzzles. The listing explicitly names King’s Field and Shadow Tower as inspirations.

The store page also describes deliberate melee, including swiping, backstepping, and blocking. Character choices include four starting archetypes, while magic, weapons, and elemental weaknesses and resistances add options for building a character. It advertises more than 75 weapons. These are features stated on the Steam listing, not independent findings about how they play in practice. See Lunacid on Steam.

Dread Delusion: a world-spanning journey

Choose Dread Delusion if you would rather roam an open world than work through a dungeon-centered structure. Steam describes a world-spanning quest through distinctive places, with characters, creatures, challenges, and treasure to find. Its retro 3D presentation and stated inspiration from classic RPGs of the 2000s make it a broader interpretation of the old-school first-person fantasy RPG.

Steam gives 14 May 2024 as the full release date. The listing establishes its open-world framing, but it does not support a direct comparison of difficulty or combat quality with Lunacid. See Dread Delusion on Steam.

Queen’s Domain: a recent option to check on console storefronts

GamesRadar reported that Queen’s Domain launched on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on 30 September 2026, describing it as a retro-fantasy first-person RPG. Because that platform information comes from a secondary report, confirm the game’s listing in your region’s store before buying; a reported platform launch does not establish current regional availability, price, or edition details.
