There is no single best reseller host for every business. Choose InMotion Hosting for traditional cPanel and WHM account resale, Hosting.com, formerly A2 Hosting, for a performance-oriented shared reseller platform, SiteGround for managed agency websites, and Kamatera for technically capable operators selling VPS or cloud infrastructure.
GreenGeeks is a strong conventional cPanel alternative, 20i is compelling if you want a proprietary white-label platform and high account limits, and Namecheap is a straightforward lower-complexity option. ResellerClub is useful when Linux and Windows hosting or domain resale matter. HostGator and WP Engine can fit specific cases, but neither should be selected without checking the current product and commercial terms.
Important 2025 note: A2 Hosting announced its rebrand to Hosting.com on April 28, 2025. Older 2025 comparisons may still call it A2 Hosting, so this article uses Hosting.com, formerly A2 Hosting. Plans, pricing, data-center availability, included software, and renewal terms change frequently. Verify the checkout page and reseller agreement before paying.
Quick comparison
The first decision is not the provider. It is the operating model you need. Traditional reseller hosting gives you WHM and separate cPanel accounts. Agency hosting gives you one dashboard for multiple client sites. Cloud partner programs let you sell virtual servers or custom infrastructure. Those products should not be ranked as though they were interchangeable.
#1 Best Overall
| Provider | Best for | Model and panel | Published account capacity or scope | Billing and white-label features | Main drawback |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| InMotion Hosting | Traditional all-around reseller hosting | cPanel and WHM | Plan-dependent cPanel accounts | White-label branding, custom nameservers, WHMCS Starter license for up to 250 clients | US-centric infrastructure and higher renewal pricing; you support your own customers |
| Hosting.com, formerly A2 Hosting | Performance-oriented shared resale | cPanel and WHM; LiteSpeed and CloudLinux on advertised plans | 15 to 300 cPanel accounts across current direct plans | White-labeling, WHMCS options, Softaculous, migrations, daily backups | Do not mix historical A2 prices with current Hosting.com pricing |
| SiteGround | Agencies managing client websites | Site Tools, not cPanel or WHM | Multiple websites; Cloud plans support custom packages | White-label Site Tools, private DNS, client access controls, daily and on-demand backups | Not genuine unrestricted cPanel account resale; limited entry-plan storage |
| Kamatera | Cloud and VPS resale | Cloud infrastructure, API, or customized white-label control panel | Scales with the infrastructure you build | Wholesale resale and a separate white-label partner model | More technical and potentially subject to a $200 setup fee |
| GreenGeeks | Value-focused conventional cPanel resale | cPanel and WHM | 25, 50, or 80 accounts; 60, 80, or 160 GB SSD storage | White-label hosting, private nameservers, WHMCS, eNom domain resale, migrations | Verify current WHMCS licensing, restore terms, resource limits, and renewal pricing |
| 20i | Custom white-label storefronts and high account counts | Proprietary StackCP and HostShop | 25, 50, 500, or unlimited advertised account tiers | Free HostShop, private nameservers, white-label branding, discounted WHMCS integration | Clients familiar with cPanel may find migration and portability less predictable |
| Namecheap | Basic, low-friction cPanel resale | cPanel and WHM | 25, 100, or 150 cPanel accounts | Free cPanel and WHM, private nameservers, unmetered bandwidth | WHMCS appears to be something the reseller sets up rather than a bundled license |
| ResellerClub | Linux and Windows flexibility | Linux or Windows reseller hosting | Plan-dependent | Domain-reseller account, billing and ordering tools, Softaculous, free SSL, multiple locations | Longer contracts may be needed for the best price; support and upselling concerns |
| HostGator | Buyers who confirm a currently available reseller product | Traditional reseller or current reseller/VPS-related offering | Changes by current offer | White-label concept, WHM and cPanel references, migrations, 24/7 support | Current page has changing or incomplete plan information and US-location limitations |
| WP Engine | Managed WordPress agencies | Managed WordPress and agency platform | Based on the agency program, not cPanel account quotas | Managed WordPress, security, backups, reporting, and agency tools | Not general-purpose reseller hosting; partner requirements apply |
Prices are intentionally not presented as timeless figures. Promotional price, billing term, currency, taxes, introductory period, renewal price, software licensing, and checkout eligibility can change by country and date. Compare the provider’s current checkout total and renewal terms.
How we evaluated these reseller hosts
This 2025 comparison prioritizes whether a product actually matches a reseller’s business model rather than repeating one universal ranking. The criteria are:
- Operating model: true cPanel and WHM resale, agency multi-site management, cloud resale, or managed WordPress partnership.
- Account isolation: whether each customer can have an independent account, login, quota, suspension state, and migration path.
- Resource transparency: storage, transfer, CPU, RAM, I/O, IOPS, inodes, databases, email, processes, and overselling rules.
- Commercial automation: WHMCS, Blesta, ClientExec, HostShop, API access, domain registration, payment gateways, suspension, upgrades, and invoicing.
- White-label depth: not merely a logo, but also nameservers, client portal, billing, documentation, system email, DNS, and support identity.
- Support boundary: whether the provider helps only the reseller or also accepts tickets from the reseller’s customers.
- Recovery and exit: backup retention, restore rights, migration assistance, exportability, and the difficulty of leaving the platform.
- Renewal economics and geography: the cost after the introductory term and whether server locations fit the customer base.
TechRadar’s January 20, 2025 comparison used category winners and discussed uptime, support, white-label features, terms, and software. Website Planet published a June 6, 2025 comparison covering shared and cloud resale. HostingAdvice describes a methodology involving reseller accounts, client plans, WHM and cPanel management, performance, pricing transparency, white labeling, and support responsiveness. These are useful inputs, not neutral market truth: HostingAdvice also discloses that advertising compensation can affect listings and order. This article does not claim independent hands-on tests that were not performed here.

The best reseller hosting providers
1. InMotion Hosting — best traditional all-around reseller host
InMotion Hosting’s reseller plans are the safest general recommendation for a freelancer, agency, or developer who specifically wants separate cPanel accounts managed through WHM. The offer combines cPanel account creation, package and quota controls, white-label branding, custom nameservers, migration assistance, domain resale, and a WHMCS Starter license supporting up to 250 clients.
That combination matters because it covers both sides of the business: WHM handles the technical creation and management of customer accounts, while WHMCS can automate ordering, provisioning, billing, renewals, and support tickets. It is a more complete starting point than a plan that merely permits multiple websites but leaves account creation and billing manual.
Best fit: agencies hosting roughly five to 100 brochure sites, developers who want isolated customer accounts, and businesses selling hosting alongside design, maintenance, SEO, or development.
Important limitation: InMotion supports the reseller, not the reseller’s customers. You remain the customer-facing support provider. The parent host can still be exposed through system messages, support interactions, DNS, abuse notices, or other infrastructure surfaces unless you test and configure the white-label experience carefully.
Recommended Free Tools
InMotion is also more US-centric than globally distributed alternatives. That may be perfectly suitable for US customers, but it deserves scrutiny if clients require European, UK, Asia-Pacific, or Canadian locations. Its renewal pricing is substantially higher than its introductory pricing, so calculate the second-year cost before setting customer prices.
2. Hosting.com, formerly A2 Hosting — best performance-oriented shared reseller option
Hosting.com’s direct reseller plans advertise cPanel and WHM, white-labeling, LiteSpeed, CloudLinux, Softaculous, Monarx, daily backups, migrations, and plan sizes ranging from 15 to 300 cPanel accounts. This makes it a strong option when shared reseller hosting is appropriate but performance and a comparatively well-equipped software stack matter.
TechRadar named A2 Hosting its best overall reseller host in January 2025, citing speed, migration help, backups, support, and WHMCS availability on most plans. That ranking referred to the former brand. On April 28, 2025, A2 announced that it had rebranded as Hosting.com, so current buyers should verify the product name, account portal, contract terms, and pricing under the Hosting.com brand.
Best fit: agencies and developers who want cPanel resale, managed migrations, and performance-oriented features without immediately operating a VPS.

Those constraints are more meaningful than a headline bandwidth claim. The provider also offers branded or unbranded WHMCS license options through its documentation, but determine the exact license cost and client limit before comparing it with a plan that includes WHMCS.
Do not copy an old A2 price into a current buying guide. Website Planet’s June 2025 figures and TechRadar’s earlier figures differed, illustrating why every price needs a country, currency, billing term, promotional status, and as-checked date.
3. SiteGround — best for agencies managing client sites
SiteGround’s reseller offering is best understood as agency hosting, not conventional cPanel reseller hosting. It uses Site Tools rather than cPanel and WHM. Agencies can manage multiple websites, give clients controlled access, use white-label Site Tools and private DNS, and create custom packages on Cloud plans.
This is attractive when your product is managed WordPress, website maintenance, security, updates, staging, and reporting. You can keep clients inside a streamlined agency workflow instead of exposing a full hosting control panel.
Choose SiteGround if: you control the technical environment, clients do not specifically require cPanel, and your revenue comes primarily from managed services rather than commodity hosting accounts.
Do not choose it if: you need unrestricted WHM privileges, conventional individual cPanel accounts, cPanel-to-cPanel migration, or a generic hosting storefront that customers already understand. SiteGround’s entry plans also have limited storage and its renewal rates are higher than introductory rates. Daily and on-demand backups are advertised, but confirm the retention period and restore workflow for the specific plan.
4. Kamatera — best for cloud and VPS resale
Kamatera’s partner program serves a different customer from a shared cPanel reseller plan. It offers two broad approaches: buy Kamatera services wholesale and resell them, or participate in a white-label program with a customized control panel and revenue-sharing structure. API access and cloud infrastructure make it suitable for an operator building tailored VPS or infrastructure packages.
Best fit: technically capable hosting companies, managed-service providers, and developers selling configurable virtual servers, applications, or cloud environments.

- Effective Organization: This budget book has a twin-wire binding and you can easily lay it flat at 180°. This effective design can help you work better and bring you great convenience in the process of using.
Why it is not a beginner pick: you must design the product, decide what you manage, define backup and security responsibilities, and handle more infrastructure-level questions than a conventional shared reseller would. A current Kamatera FAQ says a $200 setup fee may apply after the initial 30-day period unless the reseller generates at least $200 in revenue during that period. Confirm the current agreement, revenue-share rules, support boundary, and infrastructure charges before launching.
5. GreenGeeks — best value-oriented cPanel alternative
GreenGeeks reseller hosting offers a familiar cPanel and WHM model with white-label branding, private nameservers, migration help, WHMCS, and eNom domain reselling. Its current US page lists 25-, 50-, and 80-account tiers with 60, 80, and 160 GB of SSD storage, and total advertised transfer across those tiers ranging from 600 to 1,600 GB.
Best fit: a small agency or freelancer who wants conventional account-level resale, private nameservers, and sustainability-oriented provider positioning.
GreenGeeks is a credible alternative to InMotion, but do not assume that the phrase WHMCS included means an unrestricted, permanent license. Verify whether the current offer is a real license, a limited tier, a promotional inclusion, or simply compatibility. Also ask how long backups are retained, whether individual client accounts can be restored, whether restoration costs extra, and which resource limits apply before presenting packages to customers.

CPU, RAM, I/O, inode, database, email, and backup limits determine how many real client workloads the plan can support.
6. 20i — best proprietary white-label platform for high account counts
20i reseller hosting uses its own StackCP and HostShop platform rather than a conventional cPanel and WHM stack. It advertises 25, 50, 500, and unlimited hosting-account tiers, along with white-label branding, private nameservers, a free HostShop billing system, API support, and WHMCS integration at a discount.
Best fit: a hosting entrepreneur who wants a branded storefront, high account-count options, and a provider-specific platform rather than a standard cPanel experience.
HostShop can reduce the initial billing-software burden, but you should compare its functions with the automation you need: provisioning, domain registration, payment gateways, tax invoices, suspension, upgrades, refunds, and support tickets. WHMCS may still be preferable for a mature operation.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Main trade-off: StackCP is not cPanel. Clients, staff, and migration providers familiar with cPanel may need training, and moving away later may be less straightforward. Before signing, test the export path for files, databases, DNS zones, email, SSL certificates, customer records, and billing data. Also clarify what 20i means by unlimited accounts and what resource limits apply behind that label.
7. Namecheap — best basic, low-friction cPanel option
Namecheap’s reseller plans are easy to understand for buyers who want conventional cPanel and WHM without a particularly elaborate cloud or agency platform. The current tiers support 25, 100, or 150 cPanel accounts, advertise unmetered bandwidth, include cPanel and WHM, and offer private nameservers and 30-day money-back protection.
Best fit: a freelancer or small reseller who already knows how to configure WHM and can manage customer billing separately.
The critical question is WHMCS. Namecheap describes WHMCS as something the reseller sets up, so treat it as an additional cost unless the checkout and agreement explicitly provide a license. Include billing software, domain registration, payment processing, backups, monitoring, and support labor in your business calculation.
Namecheap is less compelling for a heavily managed agency or a reseller promising high-touch support. It is a basic cPanel foundation, not a substitute for a complete customer-success and operations system.
8. ResellerClub — best for Linux and Windows flexibility
TechRadar’s 2025 comparison identified ResellerClub as a feature-oriented option offering Linux and Windows reseller hosting, domain-reseller facilities, integrated billing and ordering tools, free SSL, Softaculous, and multiple locations. That combination is useful if a client base includes Windows-specific applications or if domain resale is central to the business.
Best fit: domain-focused resellers, agencies with mixed Linux and Windows requirements, and buyers who value integrated order and billing tools.
The trade-offs identified in the comparison include dependence on longer contracts for better pricing, upselling, and slower support. Confirm the operating system, control panel, database engine, backup policy, data-center location, renewal rate, and cancellation conditions for the exact plan. Linux and Windows offerings should not be compared solely by account count because their software stacks and resource limits can differ.
9. HostGator — consider only after verifying the current offer
HostGator has long been associated with beginner-friendly reseller hosting, and comparison coverage has highlighted its white-label concept, WHM and cPanel support, 24/7 provider support, migration references, and US data centers.
However, its current reseller page contains changing plan names, incomplete promotional fields, and references to Snappy plans with optional cPanel and WHM. Do not reconstruct 2025 pricing from the current page or assume that a previously reviewed product is available to new customers. Confirm account eligibility, panel inclusion, resource limits, backup terms, and renewal pricing at checkout.
HostGator also explains the difference between reselling and affiliate referrals: a reseller sells products under its own brand, while an affiliate sends customers to HostGator and receives a commission. Those are different business models. Its page describes unmetered bandwidth as intended for normal personal or small-business use and references a rule against using 25% or more of system resources for longer than 90 seconds. That is a useful reminder that unmetered does not mean unlimited hardware.
Rank #3
10. WP Engine — best managed WordPress agency alternative
WP Engine belongs in this comparison only as an alternative model. TechRadar’s 2025 coverage identified it as a strong WordPress option because it combines managed WordPress hosting, backups, security, client reporting, and agency-focused tools. It is not a general-purpose cPanel and WHM reseller.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesChoose this type of program if: your business sells WordPress maintenance, performance, security, staging, and support, and you want the platform provider to manage much of the underlying stack.
Do not choose it if: you need arbitrary PHP applications, email hosting, Windows hosting, root access, generic cPanel accounts, or a hosting storefront for non-WordPress sites. TechRadar’s review also noted a partner requirement involving hosting the agency site with WP Engine. Confirm current participation requirements directly before building your offer around it.
What reseller hosting actually includes
True account-level reseller hosting
In a conventional reseller arrangement, the provider gives you a reseller account inside WHM. You create separate customer accounts, assign packages and quotas, configure domains, and often give each customer access to an individual cPanel interface. cPanel describes WHM as the management layer for resellers and cPanel as the end-user interface.
Separate accounts are important. They provide cleaner isolation than putting unrelated customers into addon domains under one account. They also make it easier to suspend one customer, set different limits, migrate a site, and identify abuse.
The provider controls how much of WHM you receive. Reseller privileges may restrict account creation, packages, DNS, shell access, backups, overselling, resource usage, and access to server-level features. cPanel’s documentation explains how providers can limit resellers by account count or resource usage. Never assume that receiving WHM means receiving unrestricted server administration.
Agency or multi-site hosting
Agency hosting is usually a managed dashboard for multiple sites. Clients may receive collaborator access or a white-label panel, but the agency may not receive WHM or independent cPanel accounts. SiteGround is the clearest example in this list.
This model is often better when the agency owns the technical decisions and sells an outcome such as a maintained WordPress site. It is less suitable when customers expect to manage their own email, DNS, databases, cron jobs, and hosting settings through cPanel.
Cloud, VPS, and partner resale
A cloud reseller or partner program lets you sell virtual servers or infrastructure. The provider may manage the physical and virtual infrastructure while you expose a branded panel, API, or service catalog. Kamatera fits this category.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
This gives you more customization and a potentially clearer path for demanding workloads, but it also increases responsibility. You may need to manage operating-system updates, security hardening, monitoring, backups, DNS, abuse response, and incident recovery. It is not simply a bigger shared reseller account.
WHM is not WHMCS
These names are easy to confuse:
- WHM: the technical management interface used to create and manage cPanel accounts, packages, quotas, domains, and reseller privileges.
- cPanel: the website owner’s control panel for files, databases, email, domains, SSL, and related settings.
- WHMCS: commercial and operational automation around hosting. It can handle client records, orders, billing, provisioning, renewals, support tickets, suspensions, and domain modules.
WHMCS integrates with cPanel, but it does not replace WHM. A plan can include WHM without WHMCS, support WHMCS without including a license, or provide a different billing platform such as HostShop, Blesta, ClientExec, or HostBill.
Before buying, verify the following:
- Is the billing license included, discounted, or paid separately?
- What client or active-service limit applies?
- Is the license branded or unbranded?
- Does it continue if you cancel hosting?
- Can it provision, suspend, upgrade, downgrade, and terminate accounts automatically?
- Does it include domain-registration modules and payment gateways?
- Does it support taxes, invoices, refunds, coupons, and local payment methods?
- Can you export client and billing records if you leave?
Review the current WHMCS pricing rather than assuming that a provider’s use of the phrase free WHMCS means a permanent, full-featured license.
White-labeling is more than changing a logo
Ask the provider to identify every surface on which its identity can appear:
- Custom logo, colors, and favicon in cPanel or the client panel.
- Private or anonymous nameservers using your domain.
- Custom billing portal, invoices, receipts, and renewal emails.
- White-label help documentation and support contact details.
- Provider references in email headers, DNS records, SSL issuance, password-reset emails, monitoring alerts, and system notifications.
- Abuse notices and suspension messages.
- The identity shown when a client contacts technical support.
A host can hide its logo in cPanel while still appearing in DNS, system email, invoices, or support. Create a test account, place a test order, reset a password, send email, open a support ticket, and inspect DNS before promising a completely private hosting brand.
How many client accounts can you really host?
Start with the provider’s hard account limit, then calculate usable capacity from resources. The relevant numbers include:
- Maximum cPanel or hosting accounts.
- Storage and transfer allocation.
- CPU and RAM limits.
- Disk I/O and IOPS.
- Inode and process limits.
- Database count and database resource limits.
- Email account, mailbox-size, and outbound-mail limits.
- Domains per account.
- Backup storage and retention.
- Whether overselling is permitted.
- Whether the account limit is a hard quota or merely a marketing allowance.
- Whether an upgrade lets you add accounts without migrating customers.
Examples from current provider pages illustrate the range. GreenGeeks lists 25, 50, and 80 cPanel-account plans. Namecheap lists 25, 100, and 150. Hosting.com’s direct plans range from 15 to 300. 20i advertises 25, 50, 500, and unlimited tiers, but its platform is proprietary rather than cPanel-based.
Do not translate account capacity directly into customer capacity. Twenty low-traffic brochure sites may consume fewer resources than two busy ecommerce stores. Use separate accounts and reserve capacity for traffic spikes, backups, updates, malware scans, and email rather than filling every advertised slot.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Why unlimited rarely means unlimited
Unlimited storage, bandwidth, websites, or accounts still runs on finite hardware and an acceptable-use policy. The practical ceiling may be CPU time, concurrent processes, RAM, disk I/O, inodes, MySQL limits, backup space, email sending, or sustained resource usage.
For example, HostGator’s current page describes unmetered bandwidth for normal personal or small-business use and references a limit involving 25% or more of system resources for longer than 90 seconds. The exact policy can change, but the principle is stable: read the resource and acceptable-use terms instead of selling unlimited performance.
Rank #4
When a provider publishes limits, record them in your comparison. When it does not, ask support for the limits in writing. A vague unlimited claim should score below a smaller plan with clearly documented CPU, RAM, I/O, inode, email, and backup policies.
Who supports your customers?
In most reseller arrangements, you are the customer-facing host. The provider supports your reseller account and the underlying server. Your clients normally cannot open ordinary provider tickets as though they had purchased directly from the parent host.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchThat means you must handle questions about DNS, email, WordPress, passwords, SSL, backups, malware, migrations, slow sites, billing, refunds, and account changes. You should ask:
- Can you open a ticket on behalf of a client?
- Will support reveal the parent provider?
- Is white-label support available?
- What happens if one client violates an abuse policy?
- Can the provider suspend the entire reseller account because of one customer?
- Are support hours and response targets documented?
- Does the reseller agreement impose customer-support obligations?
InMotion explicitly says it supports the reseller and does not directly support the reseller’s clients. GreenGeeks describes the same basic arrangement. Treat this as a business cost, not a footnote. The time spent answering support requests can exceed the hosting bill.
Backups and recovery: verify the details
Daily backups are useful but insufficient as a buying criterion. Verify:
- How often backups run and whether they cover every client account.
- How many days or versions are retained.
- Whether backups are stored off the production server.
- Whether you can restore one account, one database, or one file without restoring everything.
- Whether clients can restore content themselves.
- Whether large accounts or certain files are excluded.
- Whether backup storage counts against your quota.
- Whether restores are free, limited, or charged.
- Whether you can download an independent copy before cancellation.
Hosting.com advertises daily backups on its direct reseller plans. SiteGround advertises daily and on-demand backups for its agency-oriented offering. GreenGeeks promotes migration and backup-related features, but current restore access, retention, and fees should be confirmed for the selected plan.
Backups are not the same as a disaster-recovery plan. Keep an independent copy of important client data, document restoration procedures, and test recovery before moving production sites.
Server location and geography
Location affects latency, legal exposure, data residency, email reputation, and client expectations. Ask whether the location is selectable per account or whether every reseller account is tied to one server or region.
TechRadar’s 2025 comparison identified InMotion and HostGator as US-only and noted relatively few data-center locations for SiteGround. 20i advertises global locations, while Kamatera provides broad cloud-location flexibility. These statements should be checked against the current order flow, especially if customers are in the EU, UK, Asia-Pacific, or Canada.
Also separate the web server’s location from the DNS cluster’s location. A geographically distributed DNS service may improve resilience, but it does not change where website data, mailboxes, backups, or logs are stored.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Calculate the real cost
The advertised first-term price is only one component of a reseller business. Use this model:
Total annual operating cost = hosting plan + billing software + domain-reseller costs + paid backups or monitoring + dedicated IP or private DNS + payment-processing fees + taxes + support labor
Then calculate the client break-even point:
Break-even monthly clients = monthly fixed cost ÷ net monthly revenue per client
For example:
$35 monthly reseller plan + $10 billing software + $5 monitoring or backup costs = $50 monthly fixed cost
At $10 of net monthly revenue per client, the hosting operation needs five clients to cover those fixed costs. That excludes your time, taxes, payment fees, refunds, marketing, customer acquisition, and support. If you spend 30 minutes each month on a client and value your time at $60 per hour, a low-priced hosting package can be unprofitable even when the infrastructure bill is covered.
Compare both the introductory and renewal-adjusted totals. Record the billing term required for the advertised price, setup fees, WHMCS costs, dedicated-IP charges, domain registration and transfer costs, migration limits, restoration charges, taxes, and refund restrictions.
Reseller hosting becomes more defensible when bundled with design, maintenance, security, SEO, backups, monitoring, or content services. Selling undifferentiated hosting alone puts you into a crowded market where price-sensitive customers can churn quickly.
Workloads that should not be placed on ordinary reseller hosting
A shared reseller plan is usually suitable for small brochure sites, light business sites, low-traffic blogs, and modest WordPress installations. It is not automatically suitable for:
- High-traffic ecommerce stores.
- WooCommerce catalogs with frequent orders or complex search.
- Magento or other resource-intensive platforms.
- Membership sites with many concurrent users.
- Large media libraries or file-download services.
- Applications requiring custom server software or root access.
- Clients with contractual CPU, RAM, uptime, or data-residency requirements.
Move demanding customers to managed VPS, cloud, or dedicated infrastructure when predictable CPU and RAM, stronger isolation, custom software, or server-level observability are required. HostingAdvice similarly distinguishes shared reseller plans for smaller client bases from VPS reseller hosting for greater scalability and dedicated hosting for large-scale operations.
Email needs its own decision
Email is often included in cPanel plans but can create disproportionate support and abuse work. You will need policies for mailbox size, migrations, DNS records, spam, deliverability, password recovery, forwarding, outbound limits, and compromised accounts.
Decide whether to include email, cap mailbox sizes, sell it separately, use a specialist provider such as Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, or exclude it from premium managed-hosting packages. A website reseller plan with email does not guarantee strong deliverability or enterprise-grade mail administration.

Reseller hosting versus the alternatives
| Option | Technical control | Support burden | White-label potential | Best use | Principal trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Traditional reseller hosting | Moderate; WHM privileges are restricted by the host | High customer-facing burden, low server-maintenance burden | Usually strong through branding and private nameservers | Separate small-business hosting accounts | Shared resource limits and provider policy constraints |
| Agency or managed WordPress platform | Lower infrastructure control, higher application-level convenience | Managed platform reduces server work, but agency still owns client relationship | Often good at client access and reporting | WordPress maintenance and managed services | Less suitable for arbitrary applications, email, or cPanel users |
| Managed VPS | Higher CPU, RAM, software, and isolation control | More server administration and additional software costs | Strong if you build the customer portal | Growing agencies and demanding websites | More expensive and operationally complex |
| Unmanaged cloud VPS | High, often including root access | Very high; you manage security, backups, monitoring, and recovery | Potentially complete | Experienced technical operators | Errors and outages become your responsibility |
| Affiliate or referral program | Almost none | Low infrastructure and support burden | Low; the provider owns the customer relationship | Businesses seeking commissions without operations | Less control over pricing, billing, support, and retention |
| Direct cloud infrastructure | Very high | Very high | Complete if you build the platform | Infrastructure companies and software providers | Not turnkey hosting; operations and compliance are yours |
Choose an affiliate program if you want referral revenue without provisioning, billing, cancellations, or first-line support. Choose managed WordPress if the product is WordPress care rather than generic hosting. Choose a VPS or direct cloud infrastructure when guaranteed resources, custom software, or root-level observability outweigh convenience.

Operational risks to plan for
One abusive client can affect everyone
Define acceptable-use rules before selling accounts. Include spam and malware policies, prohibited workloads, resource-abuse escalation, backup and restoration charges, suspension procedures, payment failures, and client data-export procedures. Keep a documented process for isolating one account without taking down unrelated customers.
Overselling can create unhappy customers
You may be technically allowed to create packages with large or unlimited quotas, but the server still has finite CPU, RAM, I/O, storage, inode, email, and backup capacity. Price packages based on realistic usage and reserve capacity for updates, scans, backups, and traffic bursts.
Portability may be weak
cPanel-to-cPanel migration is generally easier than leaving a proprietary platform. Before committing to SiteGround, 20i, or another custom environment, ask whether you can export website files, databases, DNS zones, email, SSL material, account metadata, billing records, and backups. Domain ownership should remain clearly documented in the client or reseller account.

Renewal costs can break the business model
Introductory pricing may make a plan appear profitable in year one. If the second-year bill doubles while customers pay a fixed monthly amount, your margin disappears. Set customer pricing against the renewal-adjusted cost, not only the promotional invoice.
A practical buying checklist
- Classify the product: cPanel and WHM resale, agency multi-site hosting, cloud/VPS resale, managed WordPress, or affiliate referral.
- List your current and expected accounts: separate brochure sites from ecommerce, membership, mail-heavy, and application workloads.
- Confirm the control panel: cPanel, Site Tools, StackCP, a custom portal, or a cloud API.
- Record hard limits: accounts, storage, transfer, CPU, RAM, I/O, IOPS, inodes, processes, databases, email, and domains.
- Test a demo or trial: create an account, assign a package, install a site, configure DNS, create email, restore a backup, and suspend the test account.
- Inspect white labeling: check logos, nameservers, invoices, password resets, email headers, system notifications, DNS, and support replies.
- Price the automation: WHMCS, HostShop, Blesta, ClientExec, domain modules, payment gateways, tax tools, and monitoring.
- Read support terms: establish who answers your customers and what happens during abuse, malware, outages, and billing disputes.
- Verify backups: retention, off-server storage, account-level restores, download access, and fees.
- Check geography: server region, selectable locations, DNS placement, data residency, and email reputation.
- Calculate year two: include renewal pricing, taxes, software, support labor, refunds, and payment fees.
- Plan the exit: export accounts, DNS, email, databases, backups, domain data, billing records, and client documentation before moving production sites.
Bottom-line recommendations by buyer
- Freelancer with five to 20 brochure sites: InMotion, GreenGeeks, or Namecheap if you want separate cPanel accounts. Choose SiteGround instead if you sell managed WordPress and do not need cPanel.
- Agency with 20 to 100 sites: InMotion or Hosting.com for conventional resale; SiteGround for a managed agency workflow.
- Performance-focused shared reseller: Hosting.com, formerly A2 Hosting, after checking current plan limits and WHMCS cost.
- WordPress maintenance agency: SiteGround or a WP Engine-style managed WordPress program, not a generic cPanel reseller by default.
- Domain reseller adding hosting: Namecheap, ResellerClub, GreenGeeks, or InMotion, depending on domain margins, billing automation, and support needs.
- Hosting entrepreneur building a storefront: 20i for a proprietary white-label platform, or InMotion and Hosting.com for a more familiar cPanel stack.
- Technical operator selling VPS products: Kamatera, with a written model for infrastructure costs, support, backups, abuse, and setup fees.
- High-traffic or compliance-sensitive business: skip ordinary shared reseller hosting and evaluate managed VPS, dedicated infrastructure, or a provider with explicitly suitable residency and resource commitments.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is reseller hosting?
Reseller hosting lets you buy hosting capacity from a provider and sell it to your own customers. In the traditional model, you receive WHM, create separate cPanel accounts, define packages, and set your own pricing. Agency platforms and cloud partner programs use different models and should not be assumed to provide unrestricted cPanel resale.
Do I need WHMCS for reseller hosting?
You do not need WHMCS to create accounts in WHM, but it becomes valuable when you need automated orders, provisioning, renewals, invoices, payment gateways, suspensions, upgrades, and support tickets. Check whether your provider includes a real license, offers only a discount, or merely supports WHMCS.
Will the hosting provider support my customers?
Usually not. The reseller is normally the provider’s customer and must offer first-line support to its own clients. InMotion and GreenGeeks explicitly describe this arrangement. Ask whether you can submit tickets on behalf of clients and whether the parent provider’s identity will be disclosed.
Is unlimited reseller hosting really unlimited?
No. Unlimited or unmetered claims remain subject to CPU, RAM, disk I/O, IOPS, inode, database, process, email, backup, and acceptable-use limits. Ask for those limits in writing before selling unlimited packages.
How many websites can a reseller plan host?
Use the hard account limit and resource limits together. Current examples include 25, 100, or 150 cPanel accounts at Namecheap; 25, 50, or 80 at GreenGeeks; and 15 to 300 at Hosting.com. A few busy ecommerce sites may consume more resources than dozens of small brochure sites.
Can I host ecommerce sites on reseller hosting?
Small, lightly trafficked stores may work, but high-traffic WooCommerce, Magento, membership, and database-heavy sites often need predictable CPU and RAM. Use a managed VPS, cloud, or dedicated environment when performance isolation or custom server software is required.
Do reseller plans include email hosting?
Many cPanel plans include email, but email adds deliverability, spam, mailbox, migration, DNS, and abuse responsibilities. Decide whether to include it, limit it, sell it separately, or use Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, or another specialist provider.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhich reseller host is best for WordPress agencies?
SiteGround is a strong fit when the agency wants managed multi-site administration through Site Tools. WP Engine is another managed WordPress agency alternative. Choose InMotion or Hosting.com instead when customers need conventional cPanel accounts or you want to resell non-WordPress applications.
Which provider supports Windows reseller hosting?
ResellerClub is the clearest option in this comparison because its 2025 coverage includes both Linux and Windows reseller plans. Confirm the current Windows panel, database, software, backup, and resource terms for the exact package.
Can I use my own nameservers?
Many traditional reseller providers support private or custom nameservers, including InMotion, GreenGeeks, Namecheap, and 20i. Nameservers alone do not create complete white labeling; also check invoices, system emails, DNS records, support messages, and the client portal.
Is a VPS better than reseller hosting?
Not automatically. A managed VPS offers more predictable resources, isolation, and software control, but costs more and creates additional administration. Reseller hosting is better when you need separate small accounts without managing the server. Kamatera is aimed at cloud and VPS-oriented resale rather than simple shared hosting.

Can I migrate away from a reseller provider?
Usually, but the difficulty depends on the panel. cPanel-to-cPanel migrations are generally easier than moving from a proprietary platform such as StackCP or an agency-only system. Confirm export and migration support for files, databases, DNS, email, SSL, backups, domains, client records, and billing data before buying.
Is reseller hosting profitable in 2025?
It can be, especially when bundled with web design, maintenance, security, SEO, or support. Profit is not guaranteed. Include renewal pricing, billing software, taxes, payment fees, backups, support labor, customer acquisition, refunds, abuse handling, and churn in the calculation.
What happened to A2 Hosting?
A2 Hosting announced a rebrand to Hosting.com on April 28, 2025. Older comparisons may use the A2 name. Verify that current prices, plan names, account portals, and terms belong to Hosting.com before purchasing.
The Bottom Line
For most businesses that mean traditional reseller hosting, start with InMotion Hosting. Choose Hosting.com, formerly A2 Hosting, when shared-hosting performance and migrations are the priority; SiteGround when you are selling managed agency websites rather than cPanel accounts; Kamatera when you are technically equipped to sell cloud or VPS services; GreenGeeks for another conventional cPanel option; and 20i when a proprietary branded storefront and high account counts outweigh cPanel portability. Whatever you choose, price against renewal costs, document the support boundary, verify the resource and backup limits, and test the exit path before moving client sites.
