If you want PS5 horror with anime-adjacent characters and survival-focused play, start with SILENT HILL f for Japanese psychological horror and a heroine-led story, or FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE for twin sisters, a haunted village, and camera-based spirit combat. Neither official description labels its art style “anime”; here, anime-adjacent refers to their Japanese settings, stylized supernatural imagery, central female characters, and story-forward presentation.

Best fits for anime-adjacent Japanese horror on PS5

Game Character and horror style Combat and exploration Best fit
SILENT HILL f Hinako at the center of Japanese psychological horror, with puzzles tied to psychological anguish and Japanese cultural elements. Melee-focused and more action-oriented than Silent Hill 2; the cited PlayStation coverage does not detail a resource-management loop. Players who want a heroine-led story, unsettling imagery, puzzles, and close-quarters encounters.
FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE Twin sisters lost in a village haunted by vengeful spirits. Explore and use the Camera Obscura to capture and seal spirits; Focus, Zoom, and Filter Switching support combat and exploration. Players who want Japanese ghost horror and a defensive, camera-based combat system.

SILENT HILL f: psychological horror with a central heroine

Konami lists SILENT HILL f for PS5, Steam, and Xbox Series X|S. PlayStation’s article identifies Hinako as the protagonist and describes a visual identity shaped by Japanese horror alongside the series’ established look. Artist kera contributed to the monster design, while Ryukishi07 wrote the script. The article also points to puzzles rooted in psychological anguish and Japanese cultural elements.

Its combat leans more heavily into melee and action than Silent Hill 2. That makes it a good choice if you want tense encounters and a story centered on a Japanese heroine, but the available official coverage does not establish detailed scarcity or inventory-management systems. Do not choose it on the assumption that it uses a traditional limited-ammo survival loop.

PlayStation Blog says, “As a standalone spinoff, you can enjoy this game on its own as an introduction to the series.”

#1 Best Overall
Horror Tales: The Wine (PS5)
  • Mediterranean Horror: Explore the forsaken capital of an awe-inspiring archipelago. Do not let yourself be fooled by the gentle sea breeze, the Mediterranean vistas or the comforting summer sun. Since the Devil's Fevers pandemic ravaged the city, it was abandoned, and now only horrific nightmares await there.
  • Survive your Nemesis: Someone is relentlessly hunting you. Suffer and agonize while you try to run away from the encounters with this strange stalker obsessed with you.
  • Intense Challenges: Solve environmental riddles, physics puzzles and other similar challenges in an interconnected vertical world. Even while being chased and hunted.
  • Accessibility and Photomode: Tweak more than 20 Accessibility settings to create a tailored experience for you. Use the Photomode to make perfect shots and unlock many secrets using it.

FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE: spirit combat and exploration

The PS5 listing describes the game as a Japanese-style horror adventure about twin sisters lost in an abandoned village haunted by spirits. As the PlayStation Store puts it, “This Japanese-style horror adventure game follows twin sisters who become lost in an abandoned village haunted by vengeful spirits.”

The sisters use the Camera Obscura to capture and seal spirits. The remake retains that spirit-repelling camera combat and adds Focus, Zoom, and Filter Switching; filters have roles in both combat and exploration. These mechanics provide a clearer survival-gameplay connection than a genre label alone, though the listing categorizes the title as horror, adventure, and action rather than explicitly calling it survival horror.

Resident Evil Requiem for resource-limited survival play

PlayStation’s description features Grace Ashcroft and Leon S. Kennedy, resource-limited survival for Grace, crafting, puzzles, and freely switchable first- and third-person views. It is a useful comparison if survival mechanics are your priority, but the cited material does not establish anime-style character design.
