For backyard movie nights after dark, the Anker Nebula Mars 3 is the strongest fit among these options: it combines an internal battery, a listed 40W speaker and a rugged carry-friendly design. Plan on darkness, not daylight, and treat its battery life as mode-dependent: soundcore claims up to five hours in Eco mode, while RTINGS measured 132 minutes at maximum brightness. For lighter travel, the roughly two-pound Nebula Capsule 3 Laser is easier to carry but much dimmer; the Nebula P1 offers flexible detachable speakers but needs an external power plan.
Portable projectors with built-in speakers compared
The table separates manufacturer-listed specifications from independent test findings. Brightness ratings and battery claims are not directly interchangeable: runtime changes with operating mode, and a higher lumens figure does not make a projector suitable for daylight.

Choose the Mars 3 for a backyard group
The Mars 3 is the most convincing match when the priority is a portable, mostly self-contained setup for casual outdoor films. soundcore lists 1,000 ANSI lumens and an image size up to 200 inches; those are manufacturer specifications, not a promise of a bright, high-quality picture at that size. RTINGS characterizes image quality as a weakness, citing poor contrast and the need for nighttime viewing. Use it after dark and choose an image size and seating distance that suit the yard.

Its integrated 40W speaker and RTINGS’ description of loud, immersive sound can reduce the need to bring separate audio for an ordinary gathering. In a large or noisy yard, however, built-in sound may not cover everyone comfortably; consider an external speaker if audience size or ambient noise demands it.

Choose the Capsule 3 Laser when carrying weight matters most
At about two pounds according to soundcore, the Capsule 3 Laser is the more travel-oriented option. Its listed 1080p resolution, 300 ANSI lumens and 8W speaker make it a compact all-in-one for a small room or a modest, dark viewing space—not a substitute for the brighter Mars 3 at a group outdoor screening. The manufacturer lists up to 2.5 hours of playback, so account for movie length and playback conditions.
Choose the P1 only if you have a power plan
The P1’s detachable speakers give more placement flexibility than a single integrated speaker, which can be useful outdoors. But the projector has no internal battery. What Hi-Fi says a portable supply can power it over USB-C and recommends at least 100W for a non-official supply. This makes it a fit for someone prioritizing speaker arrangement who is prepared to bring suitable external power, rather than someone seeking a fully battery-powered setup.

What the battery figures really mean
For the Mars 3, the figures describe different conditions rather than a contradiction. soundcore lists a 185Wh battery and up to five hours of movie playback in Eco mode. RTINGS measured 132 minutes at maximum brightness. Eco-mode playback is a manufacturer claim; the 132-minute result is an independent test at a brighter setting. If a long film or multiple screenings matter, plan around the brightness you intend to use rather than assuming the maximum advertised runtime.
The Capsule 3 Laser’s up-to-2.5-hour playback figure is also a soundcore specification. The sources here do not provide a directly comparable independent runtime test for it. Philips’ catalogue lists battery claims for several PicoPix models, but without comparable brightness or independent test evidence those numbers do not establish which is best for outdoor movies.

How to judge outdoor picture and sound
- Schedule for darkness. RTINGS specifically says the Mars 3 needs nighttime use to avoid a washed-out picture. None of the cited models should be treated as a daylight-viewing recommendation on this evidence.
- Match image size to the space. A maker-listed maximum image size is not a guarantee that the picture will look good at that size. Resolution, viewing distance and image quality at the chosen size matter.
- Think about the audience, not only speaker wattage. A built-in speaker can make setup simpler, but yard size, seating spread and background noise affect whether everyone can hear clearly.
- Count the whole setup. Battery-powered operation, external USB-C power, streaming or source-device needs, and any optional screen or speaker all change what is practical to carry and set up.
Why Philips PicoPix models are not top picks here
Philips’ mobile catalogue lists several PicoPix configurations with built-in or stereo speakers and battery claims: Micro 2 (up to five hours), Micro 2TV (four hours), PicoPix Max (up to three hours) and PicoPix Max One (five hours). These are model-specific catalogue figures, not category-wide performance data. Comparable brightness, independent outdoor testing and current stock were not established for these models, so the listed battery hours alone are not enough to rank them ahead of the three options above.
