Portable carpet cleaners are best for local spills, pet messes, and stains—not for washing every carpet in a room or home. BISSELL Little Green and Hoover CleanSlate Pet are two relevant examples, but the available manufacturer information does not establish a tested performance winner. Choose by the surfaces you need to clean, reach, tool design, carrying weight, and the exact model’s care and formula instructions.
What portable carpet cleaners are—and what they are not
A portable spot cleaner sprays cleaning solution onto a small area, then extracts the dirty liquid into a separate tank. BISSELL describes its Little Green as a cleaner for small spots and everyday messes; for whole-room or whole-home carpet cleaning, it points to a full-size machine instead. These portable units make more sense for a pet accident on a rug, a spill on upholstery, or a targeted clean in a car than for routine deep-cleaning large carpeted areas. How to choose one for your messes
Compare the specifications and attachments of the exact model and regional listing you are considering. The useful trade-offs are practical, not a substitute for comparative cleaning tests.

- Tank capacity: A larger clean-water tank may mean fewer refills during a job, but the listed capacity is only one model specification and does not establish cleaning performance.
- Reach: Cord and hose length affect how easily you can work around a car or reach stairs without repositioning the machine. Check both figures for the exact model.
- Tools and access: A wider tool can cover a larger spot; a narrow tool may be easier to maneuver in crevices. For a car interior, prioritize access to seams and tight spaces.
- Carrying weight: Weight matters if you will carry the cleaner up stairs or move it around a vehicle.
- Cleaning and maintenance: Read how the machine is filled, emptied, rinsed, and stored, and whether its manufacturer offers model-specific replacement parts.
- Formula compatibility: Use only cleaning formulas permitted by the exact machine’s manual and labeled for that use.

Which features matter for pets, upholstery, and cars?
Pet stains and spot spills
Look for a tool and tank setup that suits the size and location of the mess, and follow the machine manual for cleaning and extraction. Hoover positions CleanSlate Pet for pet messes; BISSELL describes Little Green for pet messes and everyday accidents. Those are manufacturer use descriptions, not independent evidence that one model removes stains more effectively than the other.

Upholstery and stairs
Check the fabric’s care label before applying water or solution, then confirm that the appliance manual permits use on that material. On stairs, carrying weight and hose reach can affect convenience. Hoover lists a 9.4-pound weight and 4.5-foot hose for the cited CleanSlate Pet model; BISSELL UAE lists a 4.5-foot hose for its regional Little Green listing, but the cited page does not provide a comparable weight.

For a portable cleaner for car interiors, cord and hose reach and a tool that can get into crevices are useful selection criteria. Hoover lists a TightSpot tool with CleanSlate Pet. BISSELL describes Little Green for fabric car interiors, but the exact surface and care instructions still matter; do not assume that a machine suitable for fabric is suitable for leather or every other interior material.

Check the surface before cleaning
BISSELL advises vacuuming loose dirt, crumbs, debris, and pet hair before using its wet spray-and-extraction cleaner. It also advises following the care label and the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions for carpets, rugs, upholstery, and vehicle interiors. BISSELL says its carpet washers are unsuitable for delicate pure wool, viscose, jute, velvet, silk, leather, and natural suede. Treat that as BISSELL guidance, not a universal rule for every device: consult the exact appliance manual and the material’s care label before cleaning.

BISSELL says Little Green works with low-foaming BISSELL formulas labeled for portable machines. Its US listing identifies Little Green Spot & Stain Formula, product ID 2038G, as a 32-ounce formula for portable cleaners and carpet, upholstery, and area-rug spots. For that formula, BISSELL directs users to fill to the water and formula lines on the tank, make a pass with the sprayer on, then make a pass with the sprayer off to remove excess moisture. After cleaning, flush or clean the hose as directed before storage. BISSELL describes drawing up clean water or using its optional Hydro-Rinse tool; Hoover describes its hose-rinse tool as a way to flush clean water through the system. Check your machine’s manual for the correct steps and any model-specific maintenance requirements.

What the available evidence can—and cannot—tell you
The cited pages are manufacturer product and care information, not controlled, independent comparisons across portable cleaners. They do not establish which model removes pet stains best, leaves surfaces driest, or lasts longest. Hoover’s listed figures are useful specifications for its cited CleanSlate Pet model, but they are not comparative test results. A sound choice therefore comes down to matching a model’s documented reach, capacity, tools, weight, maintenance, and permitted surfaces to the jobs you actually have.
