No single plane is the best in Wings of Heroes. The right pick depends on your role, your tier, the plane’s rarity and your upgrades. The most useful published starting point is Pocket Gamer’s tier guide, updated October 5, 2026 for game version 2.3.2. Its picks are the author’s subjective choices, not an official ranking or a tested performance chart. Balance and availability can change after that date.
Tier-by-tier picks from Pocket Gamer’s guide
The guide was written by Cristina Mesesan and updated by Mihail Katsoris. It recommends the following planes. Check your own hangar and the current patch before spending resources.
| Tier | Recommended / listed planes | What the guide says |
|---|---|---|
| I | Hawker Fury MK II, Polikarpov I-15 bis | Described as equal in power. They are Light Fighters, so speed and survivability are low but turn time is the shortest. |
| II | Messerschmitt BF 109 B-1 | Fast, with a short turn time and good damage per second, but low survivability. |
| III | Blenheim MK I (bomber); also listed: Yer-2 M-105, Mitsubishi G4M1, He 111 H-16 | Slow but well-rounded, with damage, survivability and maneuverability. |
| IV | P-36A Hawk; Sea Fury FB. 11 also listed | Swift, damaging and fragile. The guide states an 18-second turn time. |
| V | Junkers JU 88 A-4, PE-2-31; also listed: Beaufighter MK X, Fiat F.C.20 Bis, Ki-43 Hayabusa, Yakovlev Yak-1 | The JU 88 A-4 is highlighted for damage and survivability. The PE-2-31 is among the balanced multirole choices. |
| VI | HE 111 H-16, Mitsubishi G4M1; Hawker Hurricane Mk IV also listed | Recommended for bomber fans. The guide credits the two bombers with “well over 120 DPS” and the author leans toward the Mitsubishi. |
| VII | BF 110 G-2 (multirole fighter) | Fast, damaging and adequately armored. Its missile can be decisive if it lands. |
| VIII | Ki-67-I Otsu (bomber) | Praised for armament and armor, with a longer turn time. |
| IX | Spitfire F MK IX; B-17E Flying Fortress and Petlyakov Pe-8 also listed | The Spitfire is the speed pick. The Flying Fortress brings heavy weapons and slow handling. |
| X | P-51 Mustang | Able to deal substantial damage across situations. |
The numbers above (the 18-second turn time and the 120+ DPS) are the guide’s own statements, not independent measurements. The page’s lists are also inconsistent: some planes appear only in prose or captions, and a few are repeated. Treat it as a snapshot, not a complete roster. The game’s store listing names the La-7 and A-26B-10 as Tier X additions, but the Pocket Gamer Tier X section names only the P-51 Mustang. If you are at the top tier, compare all three in your hangar.
Pick by role first
The guide sorts aircraft into five roles. Decide which job you want before choosing a “best” plane.
Light Fighter (LF)
Trades speed and survivability for the shortest turn time. It suits players who like tight turns and chasing targets.
Fighter (F)
Fast but fragile. It rewards quick strikes and punishes mistakes.

Bomber (B)
Durable but slow to turn. It suits players who want to absorb damage and deliver heavy ordnance.
Attack Aircraft (A)
Fast and damaging, relatively balanced, but lightly armored.

Multirole Fighter (MF)
Combines good speed, medium armor and damage. It is the safest all-rounder choice.
When comparing two candidates, check the same things on both: speed, survivability, turn time, damage and suspended weapons. Compare them at the same tier and upgrade level. No source gives a complete stat table, so any numeric ranking would be invented. Use the qualitative contrasts above instead: agility against survivability, fighter speed against bomber durability, and raw damage against useful armament.

Why someone else’s plane may beat yours
Ten Square Games Support says tier is not the only factor. Aircraft strength is also affected by:
Recommended Free Tools
- Rarity: Common, Rare, Epic and Legendary. Rarity influences power within a tier.
- Modules: upgrades installed on the aircraft.
- Hangar Workshop perks.
- Battle power-ups.
So a well-upgraded Rare plane in a lower slot can feel stronger than a poorly upgraded plane one tier up. Compare upgrade level, not just the tier label.

How matchmaking changes what “best” means
Support says matchmaking is based on the highest-tier aircraft you select for battle. Planes roughly one tier above or below it may appear, and the spread can widen when the lobby has a wider tier mix. Moving up a tier therefore changes your opposition. Selecting only Tier I planes keeps you from facing opponents above Tier II. That makes a strong low-tier plane a legitimate choice if you want easier matches.
Recent progression changes and the F-16
In a July 7, 2026 update, publisher Ten Square Games described changes to rarity, blueprint distribution, unlock costs and upgrade pacing. It said Common aircraft are easier to unlock and rarer planes are more clearly differentiated within each tier. It also called the F-16 campaign time-limited and said jets were, at that stage, available only within campaigns. Do not plan around the F-16 as a permanent hangar unlock without confirming it in the game. In the same update, Product Owner Michał Szurma said: “The systems introduced in recent months give us more room to experiment with events, aircraft formats, progression and player motivation.”
Evidence limits
No source offers win rates, a standardized stat dataset or hands-on benchmarks for every aircraft. The picks above are one outlet’s opinion, dated October 2026. If your experience with a plane differs, upgrades and rarity are the likely reason.
The Bottom Line
If you want a quick shortlist, start with the Messerschmitt BF 109 B-1 at Tier II, the P-36A Hawk at Tier IV, the BF 110 G-2 at Tier VII, the Spitfire F MK IX at Tier IX and the P-51 Mustang at Tier X. Then switch to a bomber or a multirole plane if you prefer durability to speed.
